Chapter 91: Hospital Counterattack

Chapter 91: Hospital Counterattack
Damian heard the scream in the distance. Through the rain, he saw Evelyn kneeling on the ground, surrounded by a splash of red. His eyes narrowed, and he instinctively started to move toward her.

“Damian… I’m so dizzy…” Sienna grabbed his jacket, moaning weakly, “Am I going to die…” She cried hysterically, her body slumping.

Nearby, Lillian scooped up the injured dog and shrieked, “Oh my god! Pearl is hurt! Mr. Green, Pearl is bleeding! She’s my sister’s baby!”

A wife with a savagely bitten arm. A "fainting" mistress and an injured pet. Damian’s feet stopped. He glanced at Evelyn, a flicker of struggle in his eyes, but it was gone in an instant. He tightened his grip on Sienna.

“We’re going to the hospital,” Damian said firmly. He lifted Sienna into his arms and strode toward the black Bentley. Lillian, clutching the dog, hurried after him. The car doors slammed. The black sedan sped off into the rainy night, splashing mud, without a second glance or a single word of inquiry.

Evelyn knelt on the ground, rain and blood mingling around her. She watched the red taillights vanish, her heart crushed. She had utterly lost the game of marriage, left with no dignity. The agony blurred her consciousness, and she swayed.

“Hold on! Stay awake!” Ayla frantically pressed down on the wound, shouting for the butler. “The car! Get the car!”

Just then, a car screeched to a halt at the steps. Sophie abandoned her umbrella and dashed into the rain.

“Evelyn!” Seeing her friend covered in blood, Sophie instantly burst into tears. She pushed a nearby bodyguard aside and pulled the shaking Evelyn into her embrace. “Don’t worry, I’m here! I’m taking you to the hospital! That bastard… that animal… I swear I’ll kill him!”

Sophie and Ayla helped Evelyn into the car. Evelyn slumped in the back seat, her consciousness fading. She couldn’t feel the pain in her arm, only a profound coldness that seemed to radiate from her bones. She placed her uninjured hand on her flat abdomen.

My baby… she thought. I’m sorry… I’ve put you through so much…

The car sped through the downpour toward the nearest hospital.

The emergency room at Groni Hospital smelled of disinfectant and blood. Dr. John cut open Evelyn’s blood-soaked sleeve, revealing a deep, flesh-torn wound.

“Hold still,” Dr. John said, using tweezers to remove fabric fibers from the wound. Evelyn bit down on a piece of gauze, cold sweat beading on her forehead and dripping onto Sophie’s tightly clenched hand. Sophie wept silently, unable to look away from the gruesome injury.

“The wound is deep, down to the muscle layer,” Dr. John explained while stitching. “You need rabies and tetanus shots immediately. I must warn you, this kind of laceration will leave a visible, permanent scar.”

A scar. Right on her most exposed arm.

Evelyn removed the gauze, her eyes vacant. “It doesn’t matter. Just stitch it.” Compared to the hole in her heart, an arm scar was nothing.

After the stitching, a nurse wheeled Evelyn to the infusion area for observation. As the wheelchair rounded the corner, Evelyn heard a familiar, grating voice.

“Damian, my ankle hurts so much… do you think it’s broken?”

At the VIP room entrance, Sienna was in a wheelchair. She had no visible injury, not even swelling, but she was grimacing in feigned agony. Damian was kneeling before her, gently holding her foot. “Don’t worry, the doctor is coming. I’ll get the best orthopedic specialist for you.”

The scene stung Sophie. “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Sophie cursed. “Evelyn is covered in blood from a dog attack, and that wench gets a specialist for a little slip in the mud?”

Damian heard the noise and turned. His gaze fell on Evelyn’s heavily bandaged arm, where blood was still seeping through. But any flicker of concern vanished as Sienna shrank into his embrace.

“Damian…” Sienna cringed, looking terrified. “Evelyn’s eyes are scary… is she still mad about Pearl biting her? But… Pearl is always so good. She only attacks when she senses malice…”

Damian stood, shielding Sienna. “Did you hear that? If you didn’t wish harm on Sienna, why would the dog attack? This is all your own fault.”

Sophie pushed the wheelchair aside and charged forward. “Damian! Are you blind? Evelyn was nearly killed! And you’re here making excuses!”

“Sophie.” Evelyn pulled her sleeve. “Damian, I hope you can still defend the dog when the police arrive.”

Damian frowned. “What are you trying to do?”

“The dog was unrestrained, and it attacked immediately after Sienna made a suggestive remark. I have every reason to suspect this was deliberate assault.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” Sienna shrieked. “Pearl is just a pet! What does she know? You vicious woman, trying to sue a dog!”

“Enough!” Damian cut them off impatiently. “Evelyn, stop being ridiculous. Are you trying to crash Omni’s stock over this tiny issue? I’ll cover your medical bills. This ends here.”
