Chapter 26: Using Her Blood to Save His Mistress

Chapter 26: Using Her Blood to Save His Mistress
Damian’s gaze snapped from Sienna, who was lying in a pool of blood, directly to Evelyn, who was standing on the steps.

There was not a single trace of doubt in his eyes, only anger and disgust.

Evelyn opened her mouth, wanting to explain, wanting to say it was not her, that Sienna had thrown herself down. But before a single word could escape her lips, Damian had charged over with long strides.

Smack!

A crisp, loud slap landed viciously on Evelyn’s face. The massive force sent her staggering back a step, where she crashed against the staircase railing. Her cheek burned fiercely, her ears rang, and the entire world spun.

She looked at the man before her in disbelief. The man she had loved for eight years had convicted her without even asking a single question.

“You vicious woman! You cannot even tolerate her and my child?”

Evelyn’s head roared. Damian’s accusation of “vicious woman” was like a poisoned dagger, repeatedly twisting in her heart.

Before she could recover from the sharp pain and humiliation of the slap, Damian had pulled out his phone, his fingers rapidly pressing on the screen. He concisely reported the address to the person on the other end of the line. “Pregnant woman fell down the stairs, massive hemorrhage. Quick. The address is...”

Hanging up the phone, he rushed back to Sienna, carefully half-cradling her in his arms. “Sienna, hold on, the ambulance will be here immediately.”

His words were like yet another slap, fiercely hitting Evelyn’s face.

The piercing siren blared from far away, drawing nearer, and soon, two paramedics in uniform rushed in with a stretcher. Dr. Draven, the lead paramedic, glanced at the scene, his gaze lingering for a moment on Sienna and the shocking pool of blood beneath her skirt.

“What is the patient’s condition?”

“She is pregnant and fell down the stairs!” Damian’s voice was strained.

Draven crouched down and quickly performed a preliminary examination. The moment he looked up, his eyes briefly, imperceptibly met Sienna’s, who was lying on the stretcher. It was a look of silent understanding, the message exchanged known only to him and Sienna.

Their plan had begun.

Sienna let out a weak moan, grasping Damian’s sleeve at just the right moment.

“The situation is very bad,” Draven said with a grave expression. “Massive hemorrhage, we must rush her to the hospital immediately! Hurry!”

Damian’s face was ashen. He followed the paramedics as they lifted Sienna onto the stretcher, holding her hand tightly the entire time. As they passed Evelyn, he threw out a frigid sentence, “You better pray she and the baby are alright.”

Evelyn was nailed to the spot by the killing intent in his eyes, feeling cold all over.

Inside the ambulance, the space was suffocatingly small. Sienna lay on the gurney, pale, and Damian stayed by her side, not moving an inch. Dr. Draven monitored the instruments while saying somberly to Damian, “The patient’s blood pressure is continuously dropping. The blood loss is too severe. We must give her a blood transfusion immediately.”

The ambulance had not even started moving. Draven paused, his brow tightly furrowed. “But we have a very tricky problem. The hospital blood bank just called; a multiple-car pile-up has exhausted all their AB-type blood inventory.”

“What did you say?” Damian shot up suddenly, not caring that he hit his head on the ceiling. “Then call other hospitals! Name any price!”

“There is no time,” Draven shook his head. “She cannot wait that long.”

Just then, Draven’s gaze seemingly inadvertently fell upon Evelyn, who was standing frozen at the mansion’s entrance.

Damian’s sight followed.

“Use hers.” Damian’s voice was devoid of any warmth as he pointed at Evelyn. “She is AB type. Draw her blood.”

Evelyn’s body violently trembled. She looked up in disbelief.

“No...” She instinctively shielded her lower abdomen. She was also pregnant. How could she...

“Damian...” she subconsciously tried to refuse.

“Draw her blood,” Damian ordered Draven directly. “As much as needed.”

He looked at Evelyn. “Evelyn, this is your chance to atone. Save my child, and I can forgive what happened before.”

Atonement? What a ridiculous word.

Evelyn looked at him, wanting to laugh, but her mouth could not manage a single upturn.

Draven did not hesitate for a moment, as if he had anticipated this moment. He pulled Evelyn onto the ambulance, took out a brand-new blood bag and a large-gauge needle, and expertly approached Evelyn.

Evelyn struggled, but Damian clamped down hard on her arm, rendering her immobile. The cold needle pierced her skin, and a sharp pain shot through her. Immediately after, she felt her blood being rapidly drawn from her body by some force. The warm liquid flowed through the tube into the blood bag; the bright red color stung her eyes.

Damian released her and immediately returned to Sienna’s side. He held her hand, whispering softly, “Do not be afraid, we have blood now. Our baby will be fine.”

He never looked back at Evelyn again, never asked her if she was cold or in pain.

Evelyn’s vision began to blur. The ceiling light split into countless flickering spots. Her body grew colder and colder, her strength slipping away like sand through her fingers.

She thought she heard the nurse say, “Doctor, her blood pressure is too low. It will be dangerous if we draw any more.”

“Continue,” came Damian’s voice.

Not until the ambulance screeched to a halt outside the hospital emergency room was Sienna immediately rushed out. Damian anxiously followed the gurney, clutching her hand. Evelyn pulled the needle from her arm and stumbled, trying to get out of the vehicle.

The moment her feet touched the ground, her vision went black, and the entire world lost all sound and color. Her body went limp and collapsed.

In the last second before she lost consciousness, she felt someone roughly grab her, and then she was slammed heavily against a cold object.

Damian did not even lower his head to look at her. He tossed the unconscious Evelyn onto a long chair in the corridor like a discarded rag doll, then immediately turned and rushed toward the emergency room doctor.

“Doctor!” He grabbed the doctor’s arm. “Please, you must save my child! Whatever it takes, you must save him!”
