LIAM

“Good day Delon.”

“How are you Liam. You are not supposed to come get Laura until Sunday.”

“That’s not why I’m here.”

“What’s brings you here as your favourite person has gone out to see a friend.”

“How’s your wife Georgia?”

“She’s fine. It’s unlike you to visit me so early in the morning on a weekday. Is everything okay? How are your parents.”

His pretence disgusts me.

“They are both doing well. Delon, I know why my father merged with your company. It’s no secret anymore.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Delon, quit the pretence. Mother overheard your conversation between you and my father concerning me and Cara’s relationship.”

“I don’t have the slightest clue to what you are taking about.

I massage my temple and do a quick inhale and exhale. A habit of mine when I’m extremely stressed.

“If this is about that girl Liam, I suggest you go back home.”

“She has a name. It’s Cara. Delon please I am in love with Cara.”

“I don’t care. Who knows if it was both your ploy to end her life.”

“That’s a very unfair thing to say.” I say devastated.

“It's a cruel world out here. No one can be trusted!”

“You know I loved your daughter! Up until the very end. Her passing broke me.”

“You didn’t lose a child.” Delon says bursting into tears.

“I lost my wife, my friend, the mother of my child!”

At this point, I couldn't hold back my tears any longer. I was tired.

“Liam, you can be with any woman in the world asides that girl. I can’t sleep at night. So many thoughts keep running through my mind.”

“If I were in your shoes I would feel the same way. I promise I never for once contacted her or set my eyes on her while being with your daughter. I loved your daughter. She thought me how to love again and I made sure to give her my all. All I’ve felt for Cara since she left me was pure hate and I had no idea she still existed until mother brought her back to Dublin.”

“There’s nothing I can do. My hands are tied.”

“Please. You drafter up the contract. There must something you can do please. You can keep the agreed seventy per cent shares of the company and we can give you the money requested but please Cara can't go to jail.” I plead remembering the hideous consequences I read.

“You are ready to throw your hard work and that of your father down the drain for a girl? You'll be left with literally nothing if you pay such amount.”

“She’s not just any girl Delon. Think about what Fiona would want. Cara makes Laura happy.”

“ I don’t know what to do. Give me some time to think. I'm only thinking this through because of how much Flora couldn't stop singing. Your praise.”

“Thank you so much sir.

“Everything your father did was in your best interest. You came first in all his decisions. He wanted the best for you.”

“Goodbye Delon, please give it a thorough thinking. I’m not the only one who’s going to be affected by your decision. Laura is too.

I leave his house hoping to get a positive response when he eventually gives it a thought.
