Chapter 99 - Rejecting My Contracted Luna

  Emma's POV

We pull up to the pack house and memories, both good and bad, come flooding to the forefront of my mind. I can't help but feel a little nervous about going inside. But then I remember that I am not alone. I have my little family and my best friends by my side this time. I am ready to be the Luna that this pack has been waiting for.

Alpha Duncan is waiting for us on the front porch with a bright smile on his face. Before I can say anything he engulfs me in a hug and lifts me up and spins me around.

"I am so glad that you found your way home," he whispers next to my ear.

"You act like this is what you had planned all along," I smile back at him.

"How did you know that I didn't have all of this planned?" Duncan responds playful and then sets me back on the ground.

I turn around and see Ethan holding a squirming Ezra. "Uncle Duncan!" Ezra squeals as he is released to the ground and comes barreling towards Duncan.

Duncan scoops him up into his arms and tickles his little belly. Ezra squeals loudly and I notice that there is a crowd that has gathered around us.

Murmurs and whispers fill the air, talking about how cute Ezra is and how much he looks like Ethan. Out of the corner of my eye I see a pack member slowly approaching me with a bouquet of flowers. I turn around and offer the woman a bright smile and she bares her neck to me in return.

"We have missed you, Luna," she says sweetly.

"Thank you," I say as I take the bouquet of flowers from her hands. I don't know what comes over me but I pull the woman in for a hug and the crowd that has gathered goes wild. There are cheers of joy filling the air.

"As much as I want to let you enjoy this homecoming," Duncan says with a serious look on his face. "We have something that we need to discuss before I head home."

Ethan and I share a nervous look before following Duncan into the pack house. I hand Ezra off to Christina and Daniel while he shows her around the pack house. We enter Ethan's office in silence and Duncan settles himself behind Ethan's desk like he owns the place. Ethan cocks an eyebrow at Duncan and Duncan mumbles under his breath before getting up from behind the desk and letting Ethan take his rightful spot.

"So what is the problem," Ethan says as he tries to straighten the papers that are cluttered all over his desk.

"Emily and Douglas," Duncan says shortly. "They are causing issues down in the dungeons. They had to be separated from the rest of the cells because they were trying to recruit the other prisoners for an uprising.

"What?" Ethan asks in disbelief. "How stupid could they be?"

"Apparently just that stupid," Duncan tells us. "I would have killed them myself but this isn't my pack."

"How many pack members know?" The look on Ethan's face is murderous.

"I have managed to keep it pretty quiet," Duncan says, looking pretty proud of himself.

"Thanks for that," Ethan says sincerely.

I look at Ethan in shock. A prisoner uprising could ruin the reputation of this pack. This isn't something that he can take lightly. Ethan is tapping his fingers on his desk while he is deep in thought.

"What are you going to do?" I ask quietly.

"I know I promised you on the way home that I wouldn't kill anyone," Ethan says as his eyes swirl to black.

"This is different," I say in agreement. There is only one option and that is both Emily and Douglas have to be sentenced to death.

"Well," Duncan claps his hands on his knees as he stands up from the couch against the back wall of the office. "Now that is settled, I am going home to my mate."

"Are you sure you won't stay just a little longer," I ask jokingly. I know how much he and Anna hate to be away from one another and for the first time I understand why. Just the thought of being away from Ethan makes my heart ache.

"I have done my part," Duncan says smugly. "I got you two back together, I protected this pack while you were gone, and I stopped a prison uprising. I am going home to my Anna."

Duncan walks out of the office and straight for the front door of the pack house. Much to my surprise his car is already waiting for him out front. "But Duncan," I yell after him. "What about your things?"

"Already packed and in the car," he yells as he gets into the driver's side of his car and speeds away.

"Well that was a fast farewell," Ethan says with amusement in his voice as he finds me standing in the front door watching Duncan speed away. Reaching over he wipes the tears that I didn't realize are even flowing down my cheeks. "It's okay, Love," Ethan says sweetly. "This isn't the last time that you will see him."

"I know," my voice chokes on a little sob as I try to talk. "Everything is just changing."

"Are you sad about that?" Ethan says with a concerned look on his face.

"Of course not," I elbow him lightly in the stomach. "I have never been happier. So what are you going to do about Emily and Douglas?"

"The sooner they die the better," Ethan's tone turns serious.

"You should probably find Daniel," I say.

"You don't want to accompany me?" Ethan cocks his head to the side and his blue eyes swirl to black as his wolf pushes forward.

I wrinkle my nose as I think about being part of an execution. "I think I will leave that part of the pack duties to you and your Beta."
