Chapter 95 - Rejecting My Contracted Luna
Ethan's POV
I wait until Emma is sleeping soundly beside me before I slide out of the bed. As I reach the door she lets out a little whimper as she reaches out to where I was sitting but she rolls over and goes back to sleep.
As I walk out of the door I look at the name that is flashing on my phone's screen. It is Alpha Duncan.
"Hey," I say as I answer the phone. "How's the pack?"
"Your pack is fine," Duncan replies shortly. "You were right. There hasn't been an attack since you locked up your Beta and his bitch."
"That's what I thought," I growl as I walk down the stairs. "Do you mind if I use your office for a bit?"
"Only if you answer one question before we hang up," Duncan says almost cheerfully.
"Of course," I respond.
"Why did I feel a tether to my pack break a few hours ago?" Duncan asks me with an edge to his voice.
"Oh," I say as I scratch the back of my neck awkwardly. "That was probably Emma."
"Please tell me that you are the one that marked her and not that idiot Thomas," he groans loudly.
"Thomas left days ago. Were you not made aware?" I try to avoid the awkward conversation.
Duncan chuckles lightly. "Anna told me he left," he said. "I just like to make you squirm."
I walk into Duncan's office and I shut the door behind me. "Now I want to ask you a favor," I tell him now that I am alone.
"Another favor?" Alpha Duncan's voice is full of humor. "What else could you possibly need?"
"Daniel," I answer shortly. "I want to take him back to Crescent Pack with me."
There is a long pause before Alpha Duncan decides to answer. "Have you spoken with Daniel about this yet?"
"I have not," I admit. "I wanted to speak with you first. I didn't want to feel like I am stealing two of your pack members."
"What makes you so sure that he will say yes?" I can hear the skepticism in Alpha Duncan's voice.
"I don't know what his answer will be," I admit. "I want to believe that he will want to come home but I have to recognize that I hurt him all of those years ago."
"So you are prepared to apologize?" Duncan asks me curiously.
"A man has to be able to admit when he is wrong," I try to state proudly, but Alpha Duncan and I both know how hard it is for an Alpha to apologize and admit they were wrong.
"You have my permission to ask him to go with you," Duncan says seriously. "But if he tells you no that is the end of the conversation."
"You have my word," I tell him.
"Okay," I hear Alpha Duncan chuckle on the other side of the phone. "I think that settles everything. When are you coming home?" Duncan asks me and I can tell that he is anxious to get home to his pack.
"I think that we can start to head that way tomorrow," I tell Duncan.
"Good... good..." Duncan says and I can hear the anticipation in his voice. "I am ready to come home."
"I am sorry that you have been away for so long. It is my fault." I ask him. "Thomas was more charming than I expected."
"That bastard has always been charming," Duncan says angrily.
"I feel like there is a story there between you two," I tell Duncan.
"Now isn't the time for that story," Duncan growls.
I chuckle at him and I can hear him sigh angrily through the phone. "Thank you for your time Alpha Duncan."
"We are family now," he mumbles. "You can call me Duncan," and then Duncan hangs up the phone.
Now I have to find Daniel and hope that he forgives me. I wander through the hallways of the Paxton Pack house until I hear the giggles of my son coming from the movie room and I know that Daniel is probably with him.
I peek my head into the movie room and look around for a few seconds. Daniel is sitting with Ezra on his lap and Christina is tickling him. Suddenly it hits me how hard it is going to be for Ezra to leave this place, when this place is all that he knows.
"Daddy!" Ezra squeals as he runs towards me. "Are you and mommy done playing?"
"What?" I look at him with a confused look on my face.
"Uncle Daniel said that I couldn't come see Mommy right now because she was busy playing a game with you," Ezra says as he looks up at me with his bright blue eyes.
I look over at Daniel and Christina and they are both trying to stifle their laughter. Shaking my head at their childishness I realize that I should probably be thanking them.
"Yes," I laugh as I look down at Ezra. "We are done playing."
"Who won?" Ezra cocks his little head to the side and stares up at me with innocent eyes.
"Yeah, Ethan," Daniel can't hold back his laughter anymore. "Who won?"
Turning my head to the side I show off the side of my neck. Christina gasps and goes running out of the room.
"She's napping," I call out after her.
"Not for long," Christina yells back.
I poke my head out of the movie room door and yell down the hallway. "Take her some food if you are going to wake her up." I let out a sigh of relief as Christina veers off her path to Emma's bedroom and makes her way towards the kitchen.
"Hey Ezra," I crouch down so I am looking at him in the eyes. "I have something really important that I need to talk to Uncle Daniel about. Can you help Aunt Christina make Mommy something to eat."
Ezra looks like he is about to protest but Daniel chips in to help. "It will taste better if you help her make it."
"You are right," Ezra says confidently as he walks out of the movie room.
