Chapter 86 - Rejecting My Contracted Luna
Emma's POV
The smell of disinfectant wakes me from my sleep and I am met with a sense of deja vu. This isn't the first time that I have woken in a hospital and it probably won't be the last.
Before I open my eyes I can hear two people arguing in a hushed voice. Despite having my eyes closed I can still recognize the voices just outside of my hospital door.
Opening my eyes just a little I can see Ethan and Thomas arguing on the other side of my door.
"You have been here less than two weeks and there have been two incidents," Ethan growls at Thomas.
"It isn't like that," Thomas groans angrily. "Both of those times were accidents."
"How many more times are you going to hurt her before you realize that you aren't the best match for her," Ethan says in a hushed voice.
Thomas laughs loudly, clutching his chest like he was hearing the funniest thing that he had ever heard in his life. "That's funny that you say that," Thomas continues to laugh loudly. "Because I was going to ask you the same fucking thing."
"I have never hurt her," Ethan scoffs.
Thomas shakes his head and a sour expression crosses his face. "Maybe not physically..."
"What happened between Emma and me is none of your fucking business," Ethan hisses.
"Maybe I am making it my business," Thomas squares his shoulders and puffs out his chest.
I scoff angrily at the two of them standing outside of my hospital door discussing what is best for me. Lifting up the sheets to my hospital bed, I look at the damage to my stomach. Surprisingly I needed a few stitches and appear to be healing very slowly. I lower the sheet to find that Ethan and Thomas are still outside the door arguing.
"Would you two shut the fuck up," I scream, causing both of them to jump.
Pushing and shoving, Ethan and Thomas try to get through my door at the save time. Sitting back in my bed I simply watch the debacle in front of me. Finally Ethan yells out "cup check" and smacks Thomas in between his legs. Thomas bends over and groans loudly while Ethan pushes him onto the ground and waltzes into my room like he just won the Olympics.
"That's five minutes of my life I will never get back. Are you proud of yourself?" I ask as I watch Thomas collect himself and get off the floor.
Ethan looks back at Thomas and shrugs his shoulders. "He needs to learn his place."
Thomas growls loudly as he enters my room. "I don't think I am the one that needs to learn my place."
Suddenly with both of them in my room, it feels too small. "I am going to need you both to go," I tell them both sternly.
"I am not leaving Paxton without you," Thomas declares.
Without missing a beat, Ethan turns around and punches Thomas in the face.
His head spins a little to the right but he doesn't lose his footing. Instead, Thomas barrels forward and wrestles Ethan to the ground. They both begin to punch one another. Each one trying to get the upper hand. My hospital bed is slammed up against the walls and I can feel my stitches open back up and blood begin to seep through my hospital gown.
As soon as my blood hits the air Thomas freezes and then lifts his nose to the air. A feral snarl fills the room as Ethan drags Thomas from the room.
I let out the breath that I didn't realize that I was holding as soon as Ethan drags Thomas out of the room. I watch in horror through the window in the door as Ethan slams Thomas up against the wall and tries to get him to calm down.
Just then a nurse comes running down the hallway and screams at them both to leave immediately. Both men give me a remorseful look as they hang their heads in shame and walk out of my sight.
The nurse bustles into my room and begins ranting and raving about the mess that those two Alpha's made.
"I am sorry," I murmur to her as I clutch the sheet to my chest.
The nurse's eyes fly to me and they immediately soften as soon as she looks at me. "It is not your fault, Dear," she says as she pulls the sheet away from my chest so she can see the damage.
Blood is seeping through my hospital gown and there is a terrible pain in my stomach. The nurse clicks her tongue disapprovingly against the roof of her mouth.
"You are going to need more stitches," she groans.
"Why am I not healing?" I ask the nurse curiously. "I should be healing."
The nurse chews on her bottom lip while she looks at my wounds. "I think that is a question better suited for the doctor."
I know from that answer, that there is something wrong that is beyond my control. Grabbing some gauze the nurse applies pressure to my stomach to try and stem the bleeding.
"Why aren't you affected by my blood like everyone else?" I ask her quietly.
The nurse simply smiles at me. "I have been working with Paxtons for as long as I can remember. The smell of your blood would have affected me years ago, but now it is just another scent in the room."
"So a person can grow used to the smell?" I ask her curiously.
"It is possible," the nurse says with a strained look on her face. "But the person has to be willing to fight against the urge to drink your blood."
I think back to the differences between Ethan and Thomas. Thomas is unable to control himself around me but Ethan doesn't seem to have an issue with the smell of my blood anymore. But then again Ethan has known me much longer than Thomas has. Perhaps I am being too difficult on Thomas.
While I am lost in my thoughts over the two men that are fighting over me, the doctor comes into the room and begins to replace the stitches that popped open during the fight in my room.
"I am afraid that you are going to have to stay here until you are fully healed," the doctor's tone is so serious that I know better than to argue with him.
"Why am I not healing?" I ask the doctor.
"Paxtons are sensitive to stress. If you are under too much stress it will inhibit your ability to heal correctly." The doctor finishes putting on my bandages and lowers my hospital gown. "Are you under any stress?"
The nurse laughs out loud before clasping her hand over her mouth in embarrassment.
"Yes, I am under stress," I tell the doctor honestly.
"Well, then I suggest you find the root of the problem and find a solution," the doctor says seriously before he leaves the room.
The nurse looks back at me with a pitiful look on her face. "I will make sure they cannot visit you at the same time anymore."
I thank the nurse before she leaves the room and I hide my head in my hands. I will have to make a decision between the two of them sooner rather than later. I have to stay healthy for my son.
