Chapter 84 - Rejecting My Contracted Luna
Ethan's POV
I had been driving all day and all night, but I didn't care. There is nothing that I wanted more than to get back to Emma. The rogue attacks on my pack are becoming fewer and far between since I locked my Beta in the dungeons.
I have an odd feeling that he was going to use the attacks as a bargaining tool to force me to release Emily. It is too bad he was too stupid to release that I would simply lock him up as well when I found out their betrayal.
When Duncan showed up I briefed him on the situation. I let him know that under no circumstances was he to let my former Beta or his mate out of the cells. With that little bit of information I willingly left another Alpha in charge of my pack, but I didn't care. The only thing that I was concerned about was getting back to Emma before another man steals her heart.
Duncan had instructed his guards not to stop me at the border. So I flew my car past the guards, kicking up rocks as I pass by them. My car skids to a stop in front of the pack house and I grab the dozen red roses that I have laying on the passenger side seat.
Anna is waiting for me at the front door of the pack house with a smile on her face. "I am so glad that you came," she says sweetly.
Greeting her with a light kiss on both of her cheeks, I smile back at her. "I just hope I am not too late," I say quickly.
"Ezra hates him," Anna laughs loudly. "Emma wouldn't make a decision without keeping Ezra's feelings in mind."
My heart feels lighter knowing that at least Ezra is on my side. "Where is she?"
"She is in Duncan's office. Sifting through the meaningless paperwork that Duncan left behind for her." Anna chuckles.
"Thank you," I tell her as I press another kiss to her cheek and bound through the Paxton Pack house heading towards Duncan's office.
Once I arrive outside of Duncan's office, I straighten my shirt and tie and knock once before I turn the doorknob and barge right in. What I see when I open up the door leaves me standing in shock. Alpha Thomas is kneeling in front of Emma holding her hand in his, like he is proposing to her.
Both of their eyes turn to look at me and Emma gasps my name out in shock of being caught in a compromising position.
Wow, is all I can think when I see them together. I was sure that Anna was right when she said that of course Emma would take Ezra's feelings into account before falling for another man. But I guess we were both wrong. Dropping the roses on her desk I storm out of her office in search of my son.
"Ethan," her beautiful voice calls behind me. "Ethan, please stop."
I feel the tiny tips of her fingers graze across my wrist but I rip it out of her reach.
"What the fuck," I scream as I spin around and look at her with tears welling in my eyes.
"Ethan," she pleads with me but I don't want to hear anything that she has to say. "It isn't what it looked like."
"Oh it wasn't," I spit at her. "It looked like Alpha Thomas was proposing to you. So if it wasn't that... what was it."
Emma shifts uncomfortably on her feet and refuses to look at me. "I wasn't going to... I don't know him well enough." Her words fumble out of her mouth.
"So you thought about it," I growl angrily. "I have been gone less than two weeks and you have already moved on."
"I haven't moved on." Her hands are balled into tiny fists at her side and she stomps her foot like a little child.
"That's not what it looked like from my point of view," I try to be angry with her but she looks so cute when she is frustrated a smile slips across my lips.
"Why do you care anyway?" She spits at me. "You left."
"For Goddess sake," I groan as I run my fingers through my hair. "I left to take care of my pack. Or did you forget that I am an Alpha?"
"How could I forget such an important bit of information?" Emma says sarcastically. "Our marriage was the byproduct of your position."
"It was not and you know it," I yell back at her.
She scoffs at me and spins on her heels, stomping away from me mumbling something to herself about Alpha's being a pain in her ass. Standing in the doorway of Duncan's office she points to the hallway and screams, "OUT."
Before I know it Alpha Thomas is shuffling out of Duncan's office with a smug look on his lips. Tugging at the bottom of his shirt he walks up to me and holds out his hand.
I look at his hand and back to him without saying a word or taking his hand. Alpha Thomas tucks his hand back in his pocket and rocks back and forth on his heels. "I don't think I would shake my hand either," Alpha Thomas says as he looks back towards the office.
"Whatever," I say as I turn to go find my son.
"Where are you going?" Alpha Thomas asks as he runs to catch up with me.
"I am going to visit my son," I growl at him angrily.
Alpha Thomas hisses through his teeth at the mention of Ezra. "The little man doesn't like me much."
"And why should I care?" I say as I peek in the kitchen looking for Ezra.
"No reason," Alpha Thomas says as he continues to follow me around annoyingly.
As I turn around I bump into Alpha Thomas who is standing unbearably close. "Why does my son hate you?"
"I never said he hated me," Thomas says. "There was just a misunderstanding."
"What kind of misunderstanding?" I ask coolly.
