Chapter 52 CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO
CAIUS
I wake up with a smile on my face, excited for the day I’m about to have. I could go to Maeva with the information I have but I won’t. It’s going to be hard but I’m used to hard and I’ve not cracked yet.
If only I know more about the vision the witch was talking about. I tried pressing for more information but the witch wouldn’t talk and tried to kiss me instead. That was when I knew it was time for me to leave. I didn’t want her to wipe off the taste of Maeva from my lips. I went home and dreamt of all the ways we can be good together.
I turn the corner and hear Maeva talking with the guards outside my mother’s house again. She sounds anxious to talk to the witches but I don’t think it’s about the rogues. I smile as I get closer and she turns when she hears me. She looks startled and I smile.
Last night really shook her. It won’t be long now be until she can no longer fight what she’s feeling. I’ll wait until then.
“What are you doing here?” she asks, rudely.
The guards try to slip away again and I look at them.
“She’s now allowed to enter.” I say, not looking at Maeva.
I walk past them to the house and Maeva follows behind me. She increases her pace and soon she’s in front of me, putting a hand to my chest to stop me.
“Why?” she asks.
“Why not? You want access, I’m giving it to you.”
“Because I let you touch me yesterday?” she asks and I nod.
It’s not the full story but it’s part of it. She shakes her head and steps back.
“If I had known all it takes was a kiss, I would have kissed you ages ago.”
I smile but I don’t respond. A part of me wants her to think so. Maybe she’ll try to kiss me again for more things.
“I need to talk to the witch Moira.”
“We’re going in together. You can talk to her.”
“Alone. So you won’t hear.”
“Does this have anything to do with the blockers? Because you kissed me last night?” I ask, feigning ignorance.
“Will you give me privacy or not?”
I shrug. “I don’t have much of a choice, do I?”
She turns and starts walking to the house and I stand back and admire her body. She’s going to be mine soon, I can feel it. I don’t give a shit about whatever vision a witch saw, nothing will happen to her.
When I get to the cell, I find just Elaine in the cell. She smiles brightly at me then comes closer.
“Your mate took her away. Didn’t even spare a glance my way.” She says, pouting. “That wasn’t very nice. It almost hurt my feelings.”
“Anything you want to tell me about the rogues?” I ask.
“So we’re not discussing the fact that you smelled like your mate last night and she’s here with you this morning?”
“You’re very intuitive. Now about the rogues, is there something you want to tell me about them?”
She steps up to me and puts her hand on my chest. “You’re being very stubborn, Caius. You know what I want and it’s not like you have a mate you’re bonded with. She will never find out about it if you say yes.”
“Stop touching me.”
She smirks. “I have not started touching you Caius. There is a trick witches learn, we’ll be done before they get back and you’ll be begging for more.”
My father used to tell me about witches. Back when witches and werewolves still lived together, it was on every young wolfs bucket list to have sex with a witch. Elaine would have thrived in that setting.
“I’m not interested, Elaine. But I’m sure there are a lot of wolves here who would jump at the chance to be with you.”
“There are. It’s you I want.”
“Take your hands off him.” Moira says from behind us.
I turn to find her with Maeva. Maeva looks normal, no hint of jealousy or anger. My jaw starts to tic until I look down at her clenched fist them I smile. Elaine glares at Moira and my mate then she steps back.
“I was asking Elaine if there’s anything you both want to tell me concerning the rogues.” I say to Moira.
Since Maeva isn’t saying anything, I’m going to ignore her and do what I came here to do. It had been bothering me since yesterday. The rogues got to them too quick and the border patrols didn’t hear or see them. I asked them about it yesterday but they were too weak and then the council members came and I didn’t bring it up again.
Moira looks from Elaine to me with anger in her eyes that make me think that it’s more than what just happened.
“What do you mean? We told you everything.” Moira says and I laugh.
“I can wait. You swore a blood oath to tell me before the news gets to your council.”
I look back at Maeva and she hasn’t moved from the spot she’s standing. She has also gone from glaring at me to glaring at Elaine. She snaps out of it when she feels me staring at her and she enters the cell.
“What do you think?” I ask her.
She hesitates. I’m sure she didn’t hear anything I said. She was occupied with fighting what she feels, it’s not an easy battle.
“They’re not telling me everything. They’re hiding something very crucial, probably to find a way to tell their council before they tell me.”
Her eyes flash and she enters Alpha mode. “What do you think they’re hiding?” she asks, looking at Elaine.
“How the rogues came. They’re not telling us everything.”
“Here is how it’s going to be, you don’t tell me, this arrangement ends. The blood pact was done so I can trust you to an extent, you’re trying to ruin that and I can’t have witches I don’t trust in my pack.”
“We’re telling you everything.” Moira says stubbornly.
I sigh, exhausted with this. Witches always like to think they’re smarter than us.
“Alright. You’re still insisting on lying. After you’re done with the hearts and bodies, get the hell out of my pack. I’m going to deal with the rogues we captured alive on my own.”
They look at each other before they look at me.
“Since you know how to catch them, you can take that information to your pack and let them stage their own trap and you can catch them.”
They would do it if they could but they’re weak next to the rogues. They would be wiped out.
“The rogues appeared from a portal.” Moira says.
I thought as much. “So that means all or some of the original witches they took are still alive.”
“Why would you keep this from us?” Maeva asks.
“It’s not a good thing for witches. We don’t trust you enough not to use it against us.”
