Chapter 18 CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
CAIUS
As soon as I made the call, I knew I made a mistake but it was already too late to take it back. Brent is too excited for the bond and he’s not going to rest until he speaks to Maeva. Maeva is currently acting like a wounded wolf and will attack them and it’s going to get out of hand.
Brent told me that they invited her to the council today and instead of staying back and letting her come to me like I initially planned, I’m going to the council to make sure everything doesn’t go to hell. But first I need to make an important stop.
“I didn’t think you would do it. She’s going to be so pissed.” Clayton says.
“Tell me something else I already know.” I reply. He laughs but he doesn’t say any other thing.
Telling the council was a mistake because then it'll make others aware of the problem we're having and both Maeva and I hate that type of attention. I should have gone with my most primal instinct. Take her and keep her locked up in my castle until she’s ready to act right.
That might lead to Maeva making another more serious attempt on my life. If she wasn’t trying to cut me up that day, I would have kissed her. She looked deliciously feral and it made me hard.
Clayton finally pulls up to Southaven pack, the pack I took over when I killed their Alpha. It was a simple issue at the council and we had a disagreement. The foolish alpha mentioned my father in his insults and I challenged him right in front of everyone.
I had plans to just teach him a lesson but the fool didn’t back down. He looked me in the eye and said that my father deserved to die for what he did to my mother. Everybody knew not to talk about my family, and that talking about what happened with my mother was a sure way to die. My vision blurred and the next time I could see clearly, his blood was running down my face.
I wasn't punished because by law, he was wrong. Since I took the Alpha's life the right way, I got his pack too.
“What do you plan to do when we get there?” Clayton asks.
“Break every bone in his body and find another Beta that can do what I fucking tell him to do.”
“That’s fine with me. I’ve always hated the fuck. Do you know he once made Zee uncomfortable with how he was looking at her? You know Zee never gets uncomfortable.”
Why we’re discussing one of his many women right now, I’ll never know but that is the type of werewolf Clayton is. Clayton parks the car in front of the pack house and we get out. Marcel comes running out of the building. At least he has the courtesy to look scared.
I punch his face the second he’s close enough to. He falls back but he stands up immediately. Clayton is on him in a second and they start going at each other. Marcel is strong but Clayton is stronger. Soon, Clayton has him on the ground and has his foot on his neck.
I turn to the crowd gathered around. Some look scared, some look confused, while others look like they know exactly why Marcel is getting this treatment.
“How many of you went with Marcel to the black forest today?” I ask.
Nobody says anything until a she-wolf steps out. She’s strong, a little young, but strong and she has more balls than everyone here. I’ll make sure to keep an eye on her. Others start coming out slowly and I smile darkly.
I turn back to marcel who is still on the ground. “You took all of them there? What did I say about the black forest?”
Clayton takes his foot off so he can speak and Marcel turns, spitting out blood.
“Alpha I’m sorry. Alpha Kol insisted that I go with them. I was just obeying.”
“You decided to obey Alpha Kol over your own Alpha?” Clayton asks.
Marcel kneels with his head on the ground and starts begging. “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”
The insincerity in his voice sickens me. Instead of a quick death, I will take my time with it. I’ll lock him up and come back when I finish with this situation with Maeva.
“Who here wants to be the new Beta?” I ask the growing crowd.
Able, strong looking Beta’s come out. They’re all Beta's, but only the strongest can control the pack. I look at the young female. She’s a Beta. She's looks sad and keeps looking everywhere but at me She finally looks up and meets my gaze.
“Do you want it?” I ask and she nods.
“Train, I’ll be back for the selection. It’s a fight till exhaustion, winner becomes Beta.” I tell her then turn to the third in command. “Lock him up, his punishment will come when I return.
With that, I turn and we leave. Clayton steps on the gas and so we can get to the council before they finish talking to her. As we park, I see Maeva’s truck. She’s here already. We take the back and enter a secret door that takes me to the council hall where she’s sitting in the middle of the council members.
I can feel the rage that radiates off her as Alpha Brent talks. They don’t know I’m here because this room masks scent so I can watch them freely.
“She’s angry enough to bring down the walls of this place.” Clayton says through the mind link.
“This is good thing for werewolves everywhere and you want to ruin it because of petty reasons?” Alpha Evan says.
Maeva glares at him before she speaks. “It’s not a petty reason. I am one of a very rare kind and I will not be made to take the backseat as Luna because of a mate bond.”
“It’s the Moons wish that you be mated with Caius. Are you saying you’re wiser than the Moon goddess?” Alpha Brent asks her.
He’s trying to appeal to a part of her that gives a shit.
“I’m not wiser than the moon goddess but I won’t do it.”
“The council is giving you orders.” Alpha Hills who has been uncharacteristically silent says in his Alpha voice.
Maeva stands with so much force, her chair flies back. “I am master of my own fate. You won’t force me to be with Caius. The sooner he accepts that there's nothing he can do, the better for everyone.”
“You don’t have a choice Maeva. The council is going to decree it and you know the punishment for disobeying a council decree.”
She looks each of them in the eye and growls. “Come find me at my pack when you make the decree.”
With that, she storms off.
“God, she’s strong.” Clayton murmurs after she leaves and the Alpha's are shouting after her.
“What will you do now?”
“Plan C.” I murmur, already leaving the secret room.
This nonsense has to end soon.
