Chapter 54
I frowned at that. The lounge? Evidently my confusion was written all over my face, so the man went on.
“Alpha brought you into the suite through the back entrance which leads directly to this room. So you would not have seen the rest of the suite, My Lady.”
Ohh.
“Um. Okay. I will see her in the lounge.”
Before I could even swing my legs out of bed, the huge man crossed the space between us in one stride, scooped me up and carried me to the lounge.
I knew my face had to be flaming. But I was just so shocked at his actions I couldn’t form a single sentence.
He placed me down onto a soft couch. Then stood back, his back straight. His chest puffed out. What do I do now?
“Um. Where is the young girl?” I asked tentatively.
“I will show her in My Lady.” He said, but I raised my hand to stop him.
“Before that, I think I have the right to know the name of the man who just removed me from my bed and carried me like a child in his arms.”
He looked mortified.
“My Lady. I didn’t think. I just did what the Alpha told me to do. I was only following his orders. If I have overstepped I will accept my punishment…..”
I held out both my arms now gesturing for him to stop talking.
“Wow wow wow. Slow down. You are not in any trouble. And if indeed you were following the Alpha’s orders then I shall not say another word about it. Buy I would still like to know your name. If I could?”
I could see the big man visibly relax. Thank the Goddess. I thought the poor man was going to have a heart attack.
“Of course, My Lady. I should have introduced myself before hand. I am so sorry for my mistake. My name is Brett. The Alpha has assigned me to you. I am to look after your well being and make sure you are safe at all times.”
I just stared at him. At Brett. I didn’t really know what to do with all that information. It sounded like Reece had given me a bodyguard.
“So you are a bodyguard? My bodyguard?”
“Yes my Lady. There is another guard here as well. His name is Dwayne. He has the same instructions as me. We are honored that we were picked for this. It is quite the honor.”
I nodded. Seems like I will be having words with the man I love later on.
But I choose to do nothing about it now. I just smiled and asked for the young girl to be shown in.
I waited no more than a minute. The door opened and in walked the young girl from this morning. She looked terrified. I felt guilty at once.
“Please come and sit. And don’t fret. You are not in any trouble. I just wanted to know a little more about you. Is that alright?”
The girl, Piper’s facial featured changed from scare stiff to curious in seconds. I waited for her to sit on the sofa that sat opposite mine.
“What would you like to know. Your grace?”
She said quietly. Thank goddess for wolf hearing, or I might have missed it.
I got the sense that this girl was special. But I couldn’t put my finger on it. Im sure Onyx would know, but I had to let her rest. She was still fighting off the last of the poison we had been fed over the years.
“Piper. May I call you Piper.”
Piper gave a small nod.
“How old are you? Are you still in school?”
Piper looked uncomfortable, there was something there. I just didn’t know what.
“I am sixteen, your grace. I do not attend school. Not for a long time.”
The last bit was said so quietly I suspect I wasn’t supposed to hear it. But hear it I did.
“Why do you not attend school? I thought school was mandatory for all children until they are eighteen and get their wolf. The horrible girl from this morning, I forget her name, she said you were wolf-less. How could she possibly know that if you are only sixteen. Am I missing something?”
Piper was officially squirming in her seat. Whatever it was, it was meant to be a secret. And one that didn’t bode well for her.
“Piper, I want you to tell me truth. Why do you not attend school?”
Piper swallowed. Hard. Then, I a minuscule voice said, “I’m not suppose to tell.”
The girl was clearly terrified. What the hell was going on her. What type of pack was this?
These were questions I intended to ask Reece as soon as I saw him. But for now, I would get to the truth myself. And hopefully be of some help to Piper.
I opened the mind link to Reece. Asking him to come and see me as soon as he was able to.
In no less the five minutes, Reece strode through the door to the lounge.
He had a look of panic on His face until his eyes landed on me. I saw him visibly relax, then take in the room.
He rushed to my side, kneeling in front of me and took my hand.
“You are okay? Everything is okay with you?”
I cupped his cheek and felt him lean into it. My heart seemed to skip a beat. I assured him I was okay. Then asked him to sit down with Piper and me.
He nodded and immediately took the seat next to me. The seat cushion I was on dipped slightly, so my body angled towards him a little. He gave a satisfied smile and bade me to continue.
Reece POV
I had almost finished up with the problem from this morning. When Julia’s soft voice asked that I go see her when I available.
I would have made the time, postponed the meeting or just left it up to my Beta Stephen, if she called me to her.
Luckily I was finished. And I had some pretty disturbing news to tell her. What did surprise me was that I found Julia sitting in the lounge, not in bed where I had left her. I was disgruntled to find this out, as the though of Julia walking anywhere unsupervised made me break out in a cold sweat.
Now I had found my Luna, I’ll be damned if I was going to lose her now.
