Chapter 41 don't need to connect

Chapter 41 don't need to connect
Amelia’s P.O.V.

“I must say that you guys really have a good business mind. You guys reached the level of success in just three years that people take their whole life to reach.” Hunter praised me with genuine admiration in his voice.
“Thanks for the compliment, Mr. Stone.” I replied with a faint and genuine smile while taking a seat on the other side of the table.
We were in the same hotel private dining room. I got a call from Hunter this morning, as Alexander told me the last time.
He requested a meeting with him. So, here we are for that meeting.
Arthur poured some wine in a glass and drank it. I saw Hunter raising his brows out of curiosity.
“I am sure that you have heard about tasters in ancient times, Mr. Stone.” I spoke to him in a casual and light tone while making myself comfortable on the chair.
His eyes widened more in surprise.
“We can’t afford any mishappening when it includes someone very important like you, Mr. Stone.” I clarified in the same tone.
He clicked his tongue in amazement but didn’t comment further.
“It’s okay to drink.” Arthur informed me calmly and I nodded in response, gesturing him with my hand to pour a drink for me and Hunter.
“Mr. Thorne must have talked to you about hiring your company to replace the present security company for our three properties, including the headquarters of Thorne Empire.” He started the conversation in a formal way while I listened to him with all my concentration.
The servers we have right now also have a few humans. That’s why we were talking formally without using our titles.
“Yes, we submitted our proposal two months ago for Thorne Entertainment.” I told him and he furrowed his brow but didn’t comment on anything.
“He wants your company to take over the security services for Thorne Empire headquarters, the Thorne Corporation branch in South City, and in River Bank.” He told me with a serious expression on his face.
I nodded in response while taking the file from him that he slid towards me on the top of the table.
“He also wants you, especially you, to join his security team as my assistant.” He added it, and my eyes widened in shock.
Alexander told me that I would join his security team, but he never told me that he wanted me to be Hunter’s assistant.
“She can’t do that, Mr. Stone.” Arthur objected anxiously, offering Hunter the glass of wine at the same time.
“And why is that?” Hunter asked him immediately, sounding a bit annoyed by Arthur's interruption.
I looked at Arthur in warning, but he didn’t pay attention to me.
“You already know about her physical condition, Beta Hunter. She needs constant medical attention to stay put. Moreover, she is also co-beta of Marcus. To join your team, she must accept the pack membership of the royal pack, severing all ties with us. You don’t know that there are so many people in our group who are dependent on her for so many things.” Arthur explained to him in a very serious tone.
He used the Hunter title because all the servers had left the room and the door was closed tightly.
I knitted my brows when I processed Arthur’s point of severing ties with my group.
“And this will also be the same for all security personnel appointed to us, Arthur.” Hunter reminded him, but both I and Arthur shook our heads negatively.
“No, Beta Hunter. They don’t need to join the royal pack.” I replied to him and he knitted his brows again.
I took a deep breath and slowly straightened my upper body while leaning towards the table.
“When we send our people to serve a company owned by a werewolf, we sign a bond agreement with them. This is an ancient ritual, but it allowed our wolves to have a limited access on the pack bond. This way, the pack keeps them from invading any private conversation related to the pack, which shouldn’t be heard by an outsider.” I explained to him how the security bond with between our security personnel and the pack wolves.
“You… you used an ancient ritual?” he exclaimed in shock and I nodded in agreement with a smile.
“Why do you think that those packs trust our security personnel when they aren’t a part of their pack?” I asked him while moving a file towards him with all the details of that ancient ritual.
“It’s confidential information that I am sharing with you, beta Hunter, as we need to work together in the future.” I told him when he was about to put his hand on the file.
“But why are you so cautious?” he asked in confusion while taking the file.
“I mean, isn’t it better for your people to join a pack?” he added it further and I smiled bitterly.
“And then sever the ties after the contract expires?” I asked him in a bitter tone.
He pursed his lips into a thin line and lowered his eyelashes.
“This ancient ritual has a time limit with no bad effect on the person on whom it’s performed, Beta Hunter. If our employer decides to renew the contract, we perform the same ritual again for the next time period. When the time ends, the ritual only breaks the bond by itself, saving both the pack and the person from any kind of pain or agony.” I explained to him calmly.
This ritual was also the reason that our people don’t lose their sanity after being a rogue for this long. The ritual joined them with a pack for a limited time, giving their wolf a sense of belonging, which kept their minds sane.
I didn’t need to explain it to Hunter, though.
Hunter didn’t open the file but held it tightly.
I took the glass from the table and sipped some wine. My throat was parched and I needed something to soothe it.
The silence was filled with suppression, but both I and Arthur were now habitual of dealing with this kind of suppression.
“So.” He spoke again and cleared his throat before looking back at me.
“If you join the king’s security team, you will be part of the security team only, right?” he asked me to confirm, and I nodded in agreement.
“I will only be connected to all the people involved in the security team of the king, including those who work behind the scenes.” I confirmed it to him calmly.
“He will not be happy with this arrangement, Amelia.” He mumbled and I nodded in understanding while pursing my lips.
My phone started ringing when he was about to say something more.
“I am sorry.” I mumbled and took my phone from the table. “It… it’s from the hospital.” Arthur told me hurriedly, and my heart skipped a beat.
Without wasting a second, I took the call.
“Ms. Locke. You need to come here as soon as possible. Theo’s condition suddenly deteriorated.” The caller spoke to me in a panicked tone.
