Chapter 28 losing my sanity again
Amelia’s P.O.V.
“I have listed out twenty companies out of fifty with whom we can collaborate. I have already marked the main points of their proposal for you.” Arthur told me while putting twenty thick files in front of me.
“The USB drive is inside the files. I have compared them. Every word is what is written in the proposal.” He added further.
I sighed helplessly while looking at that thick stack.
“What about other thirties?” I asked him calmly while taking the first file.
“We haven’t replied to anyone. Our people are preparing audio files of those files too, but most of them lack their connections in the respective potential markets that we have decided to target.” He replied to me and I nodded while connecting the USB drive that I got from the file.
“Also, the tech team from Sylvia Future Tech wants to have a meeting with you,” Arthur told me further and I frowned.
“Why me?” I asked him, confused because Sylvia was the CTO of that company. She was tech-savvy and a genius hacker.
“Sylvia is not feeling well these days because of her pregnancy. So, she named you as the working CTO for the time being.” He replied to me with a wide and sheepish grin.
“And why are you informing me now?” I asked him annoyingly, feeling betrayed by all of them.
I already had a lot on my plate, and now she added more.
“I was about to inform you,” he replied, still having the same grin.
“Where are Luca, Anthony, and Liliana?” I asked him, rubbing my temple to get some ease in my headache.
These days, I have been having frequent headaches and now it is bothering me.
“You head is acting up again.” He mumbled and I just hummed in response.
“You know what? You need a long and relaxing break of few months.” He suggested and I smiled bitterly.
“Then you take over my work for the next six months,” I suggested, looking at him flatly.
He immediately took two steps back while widening his eyes in horror.
“Just tell me to commit suicide, Amy, if you want me dead with the mere thought of handling everything you do. Goddess! I haven’t found my mate yet. Who will carry my name in the future?”
I rolled my eyes while he continued his mind-blowing, Oscar-worthy performance of a pitiful princess.
“As if you have a legacy and trillions of inheritances to leave to your future generations,” I remarked sarcastically, and his face froze with that same dramatic expression that he had all this time.
“Just get out and bring me my coffee,” I growled at him and took the buds from the chair.
“Did you put drops in your eyes this morning?” he suddenly asked, changing his tone so quickly as if he weren’t the one performing earlier.
“I have, Arthur. Now go, bring me a cup of coffee that I like to have, and schedule an appointment with Dr. Harrington,” I commanded him while gritting my teeth.
Sometimes, he really got on my nerves.
“Okay,” he chirped before moving back towards the door dramatically, and he almost walked like a model, performing a catwalk in front of me.
“Goddess, Arthur! No one wants to see your little a.” I taunted him, feeling gross by his act of looking cute.
He didn’t pay attention to my snarky remark, though.
I rubbed my temple to ease the headache, put the buds in my ears and started the recording. I took my pen and the notepad from the side drawer and started writing a few notes while listening to the recording.
I had never been to school when I was in that nasty pack, just some basic knowledge of numbers and letters, enough for me to read and write if I needed to.
It was Marcus and Luca who started teaching me more when I was recovering. They said that I needed some distraction for speeding my recovery, and education was the best distraction for me at that time.
It really worked. I was always a quick learner, and within the six months of my recovery, I passed the high school examination online. I am grateful to everyone in my pack.
Including people from earlier than me and the people who were brought in after me.
I learned everything that they carry with them. We had limited resources, but we used them all to improve their educational and technical skills so that they could earn their bread on honestly in the human world.
I looked at the door opened again and Arthur entered hurriedly with his tablet in his hand.
I stopped the recording and took one bud out of my right ear.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him with a furrowed brow. He looked pale in fear when he entered.
“You need to see this,” He replied to me anxiously while putting his tablet in front of me.
I still had my brow furrowed while taking the tablet. It was a common web page especially developed for the werewolf world to browse anything about them and also upload news and gossips.
My heart almost burst out of my chest when I saw Night Raven’s name at the top of the gossip list.
I opened the link and felt as if someone had punched me hard on my chest.
I stopped breathing while reading what those gossip vultures had written there.
“Amelia…. Amelia.” I heard a distant panicked voice calling me, but the ringing in my ears was like heavy explosions, exploding my mind to the extent where I couldn’t hear anything else.
“How dare he? ” I roared aloud, throwing the table somewhere in front of me, standing up abruptly, and hitting the chair backward with a shrill screech.
“How dare he pin them? ” I roared again, crashing my fists on my working table, breaking it immediately.
“Amelia. Marcus wants to talk to you,” Arthur suddenly yelled aloud.
I snarled aloud, baring my canines to him threateningly, losing my rationality completely.
“Bernard Shaw….. I will kill you. I will kill you,” I roared while grabbing what came to my hand and throwing it in any random direction with all my strength.
“Amelia, calm down.” I heard Marcus roaring at me, commanding me in the process.
I didn’t listen to anything. All I could hear was their sinister laughter and his venomous words playing continuously in my ears like a broken record.
Suddenly, I was engulfed in a tight embrace.
“Calm down, Amy. I got you. I got you,” Arthur whispered into my ear, holding me tightly against his chest from behind.
“AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.” I screamed at the top of my lungs, my body trembling hard in agony.
“Don’t let them collude your mind. You aren’t their pawn in this game, sisso. You are the player.” He continued coaxing me while rocking my body lightly.
His words broke through their laughter and reached my ears, snapping me out of my trance.
“Bernard is venting his anger by bringing up that incident, pup. Don’t let him get on your mind,” Marcus said to me in a serious tone.
