Chapter 25 our hatred towards him

Chapter 25 our hatred towards him
Marcus’s P.O.V.

“I guess we didn’t investigate this properly. How do we not know that Zane is still searching for his daughter secretly?” I muttered angrily, running my fingers through my hair, feeling completely frustrated after Amelia told me what happened when she presented Melanie’s case to the council and the king.
“The key point is ‘secret’ here, Marcus. He must have hired someone from the human world to find that pup years ago. That’s why I couldn’t find anything odd or suspicious against this case.” She added calmly, but I wasn’t calm.
“The king assured me that Zane will not come after us but we still need to be on guard. It will be better if you inform them not to come back for the time being. Also, ask them to use the potion to mask their scents there.” She instructed me calmly.
I nodded in agreement and took a deep breath.
“When are you coming back?” I asked her with concern. She had to come back yesterday evening, but Arthur told me that her condition worsened when the king suddenly grabbed her hand.
“I will leave in two hours, but I will go straight to the company. I just got a call from Mary, stating that something happens in the southern warehouse.” She replied to me calmly.
“Shall I come too?” I asked her worriedly.
“No need. Arthur is with me, and I have already called Vincent and his team. After taking care of things there, I will go to my penthouse.” She informed me.
“Okay. Call me if something else happens. Don’t try to handle everything on your own.” I instructed her sternly.
“Yes, boss.” She teased with a giggle. I smiled before hanging up.
“I called the hospital just now. Dr. Bernard said that her condition is stable, and they have found a donor for the heart transplant.” Sylvia told me while coming inside the room.
She went out earlier to take the call as I was talking to Amelia.
“That’s good. I really hope that she survives this transplant.” I replied while taking her hand and pulled her into my embrace.
Her scent, rose and dahlia, always calmed my nerves down.
“What’s wrong?” she asked me worriedly while holding me by my waist.
“It seems that Dana’s father is still after her life. He has been searching for her all these years.” I told her truthfully in a low and tired voice.
“What? But he has already taken a chosen mate, and he has a son now. Why does he still want to kill her?” she asked me in shock.
“Amelia just told me. We …. We made a mistake by including Melanie’s case in our proposal.” I sighed while thinking about the woman who died a miserable and painful death in my embrace.
Sometime, I had nightmares about all of them who died in front of me. Their battered and wounded me sometimes haunted me when I stayed alone in a room for a long time.
“Everything will be okay, Marcus. Amelia is intelligent and I am sure that she has already found a way to keep Dana protected from Zane.” Sylvia comforted me, but I could feel her anxiety.
A knock on the door made me groan in frustration. I wanted to stay with Sylvia for a moment, but I guess, I had to wait.
“Go to the lounge, and rest.” I asked her softly and slowly moved her away from me.
We were expecting our first pup, and that’s why Amelia and I were desperate to form a pack as soon as possible.
She nodded and then walked towards the lounge door. The door opened and my assistant, another rogue, Jaxon Morse, popped his head inside.
“Mr. Bernard Shaw from Shaw Enterprises is requesting a meeting, Mr. Smith. He is waiting for you at the reception.” He informed me with a sheepish smile, and I grimaced.
Not only me, but everyone in my group hated Bernard Shaw to the extent that we would kill him the first opportunity we get.
“He is persistent, Mr. Smith. Meet him and end this once and for all. Our staff is already frustrated with his frequent visits.” Jaxon pleaded and my expression darkened.
“Bring him in.” I ordered coldly and went to my chair to get my suit jacket.
Jaxon was right. It seemed that Bernard had made our reception area his second home.
I put on my suit jacket and sat down on the chair.
My company specializes in electronic appliances and also, we are the largest supplier of household appliances in the whole state. We were now spreading our branches in other states too.
Jaxon knocked on the door after some time and opened it. He winked at me secretly before moving away to give the second person enough space to enter inside the room.
My whole demeanor went cold as soon as Bernard made his presence known to me by asserting his alpha aura.
I scoffed internally and looked at him coldly. His dark green eyes narrowed slightly when he didn’t see the expected reaction from me.
“Mr. Shaw.” I greeted him coldly and gestured for him to take a chair in front of me.
“Mr. Smith. I see that you are stronger than I thought.” He remarked sarcastically and I smirked coldly.
I waited for him to sit down. He walked so leisurely as if it was his office. His arrogance has no bound that I could see.
Cole, my wolf, also snarled in annoyance at the back of my mind.
“I guess Mr. Shaw is free nowadays. That’s why he has become lazy, but I am a busy man, Mr. Shaw. I have a meeting to attend in five minutes. So, you now only have four minutes.” I told him calmly, keeping my indifference known to him.
He grimaced and glared at me.
“You know who I am, right?” he asked angrily. “And what does your identity have to do with me?” I questioned him back nonchalantly.
His face ashened and a low growl erupted from his chest. He clearly didn't anticipate this kind of disrespect from a rogue.
