Chapter 18 make her stay

Chapter 18 make her stay
Alexander’s P.O.V. (Continued)

“Tell them I am not free, and also that they are here because I grant permission to them,” I instructed him while resuming my way towards the wing where Amelia was.
“The whole palace staff is in distress, my king.” Edwin pressed and my anger flared.
“Who is above me in the whole pack? It’s me who let those rogues come here and stay. Who dares to question my decision?” I roared through the pack mind-link so that the whole pack could hear me.
No one even dared to speak even a single word. I scoffed aloud and cut off the mind-link.
“Our hatred for rogues is so deep-seated that it couldn’t be erased by one victim, Alexander.” Hunter said to me in a serious tone.
“I know.” I replied in a suppressed tone. Amelia was still not out of her fear, and I didn’t want to scare her more.
“Do you think that they will present a few more stories from those victims?” he asked me in a low and worried voice.
“Are you strong enough to listen to a few more stories like Amelia’s?” I asked him sarcastically, glancing at him questioningly.
He wanted to retort but I watched him gulping hard. I smirked coldly and kept on walking without paying any attention to him.
We reached her room by now. The doctor came out of the room before we reached the door.
“My king.” He greeted me politely while bowing his head a little.
“How is she?” I asked him calmly.
He sighed aloud before looking back at me with a complex gaze.
“Even though I can’t touch her, I could say that she is much stronger than a rogue should be.” He praised Amelia with a serious face, but I knew this already.
“Her body is still weak, my king. That another rogue told me that she was injected with a high amount of wolfsbane on her eighteenth birthday, right before she was about to shift for the first time. He told me that the amount was so high that it came out of her pore as sweat. It’s a miracle that she is still alive.” He explained further, but his expression went darker with every word coming out of his mouth.
“Arthur showed me her hands. Her pores are still damaged. She can’t sweat.” I closed my eyes, digging my nails deep inside my palms to suppress my anger.
Velan retreated deep inside my mind so that his anger wouldn’t scare Amelia.
“One hint…. Only one hint about her previous pack and I swear to the goddess that I will burn the whole pack by my own hands.” Hunter muttered angrily.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked at the doctor, Liam Kingslay, with a calm gaze.
“Is there a way that she can get her scent back?” I asked him, and he slowly shook his head, looking at me apologetically.
“Is she well enough to meet me?” I asked him the next. He clicked his tongue while jerking his head a little.
“Medically she is not, but I think she is worried about whatever reason she has to come here.” He answered me and I nodded in understanding.
He moved away from the door, and I took a deep breath before taking the knob. I clicked the knob and slowly opened the door.
My gaze met with hers, and for a second, I froze. Her eyes were unfocused, and I felt as if she only had her eyes on me, but she couldn’t see me.
Arthur stood up from the bed but stood up beside her. “How are you feeling now?” I asked her calmly while walking towards the bed at a steady pace.
Hunter closed the door behind us. Liam also entered the room with him. There were still two nurses in the room. I looked at the IV drip connected with her.
“Feeling better, my king. I apologize fo…. For my reaction. Th… that was sudden.” She apologized, but the fear was still evident in her voice.
“My apology, Amelia. You told me in our first meeting that you are not comfortable with unfamiliar touches. I should have remembered that.” I apologized truthfully.
She didn’t say a word but lowered her eyelashes. Arthur put his hand on her shoulder as she was sitting on the bed.
“Please inform Marcus that you two are staying here tonight. We have rescheduled our meeting for tomorrow morning,” I told her calmly, stopping at the foot of the bed.
“Th… that’s not necessary, my king.”
“Amelia.” I interrupted her in a warning tone. She paused, but I could see reluctance on her face.
“I know that I am prying into your medical conditions and your privacy, but I am still your king. It doesn’t matter what your status is. You are no harm to me or to my pack, but you are in this condition because of me. You need rest….. not just rest, but a good rest. I promise you, and you know me very well.” I added sternly.
“I beg your pardon for the interruption, my king, but we shouldn’t be here for long.” Arthur said to me in a low voice, skeptical about their stay here.
“I assure you, Arthur, that you and Amelia are safe here. You two are under my protection here, and there is no one in this world who can even glance at you guys with squinting eyes.” I assured him confidently.
Arthur’s expression told me that he still didn’t trust me.
He looked at Amelia, who still had her eyes down. The silence in the room got on my nerves.
I never cared if anyone trusted me or not, but I wanted Amelia to trust me.
“I trust you, my king.” She said to me in a very low voice, but I breathed out the breath that I didn’t know I was holding till now.
“Take Arthur out of the room. I need to talk to her.” I instructed Hunter through mind-link.
“Not now, Alexander. She is still scared. Let her calm down, and you have a few meetings to attend. Tell her that you will meet her this evening.” He advised, sounding worried but firm.
“He is right. Give her some time to relax.” Velan also advised worriedly.
“Can we have a moment, my king?” she asked in a very low voice, surprising me in the process.
She was scared, but she was still brave enough to face her fear.
“You should rest for now, Amelia.” I advised her but felt happy for some unknown reason.
“I know, my king, and I am grateful to you for trusting us so much that you let us stay here. I only need a minute with you and Dr. Kingslay.” She requested and slowly looked up.
Her eyes were still unfocused, and it left me with an unsettled feeling.
“Come with me, Arthur.” Hunter asked Arthur calmly. “I am okay.” Amela said to Arthur, moving her face in his direction, but she didn’t look at him.
“I will be outside the room,” he said to her, still hesitating, but went out of the room with Hunter.
