Chapter 17 she can't be her
Alexander’s P.O.V.
“Her fear was real, Alexander. I ….. I don’t know how, but I felt it in every fiber of my body. She…. She was struggling so hard to breathe as if someone had choked her. She was losing her life. I… I know that I won’t be able to hate her after this. I don’t know about others, but she was definitely a victim.”
Just like me, he was also still stunned by what happened to Amelia when I touched her. He wasn’t exaggerating the situation because this is what I felt too.
I didn’t register a single word coming out of Hunter’s mouth as my heart was a mess.
I never felt so helpless as I felt when she suddenly went pale and couldn’t breathe. All I did was to grab her hand, intrigued by the gloves on her hands.
There was no skin touching and yet her reaction startled both me and Hunter to the core. She fainted in Arthur’s embrace, who had tears in his eyes, trying to suppress his anger and sadness, but I felt it through his aura.
He was not a high-ranked werewolf before he became a rogue, but he had a very strong will and determination.
Especially his protectiveness towards Amelia. She called him her godbrother, the one who tried to keep her alive after she was thrown outside her pack back then.
He glared hard at me with hatred when he pulled her into his embrace, but I didn’t find it offensive. It was his brotherly instinct towards his sister.
No matter how scared or timid a man is, he becomes a wounded wolf when something happens to his sister.
“Are you listening to me?” Hunter yelled at me suddenly and I shot daggers at him through my eyes.
“Arthur refused to let the doctor touch her body. He said that she is unconscious, but her unconscious mind is on alert mode. Touching her can make her situation worse.” He told me out of frustration.
But he wasn’t angry or frustrated by Arthur’s refusal. We both understood what Arthur implied here. I guess the doctor mind-linked Hunter to update him with Amelia’s condition.
“Ask him to take Arthur’s help with the procedure. She is sensitive to unfamiliar touches, but Arthur’s touch will keep her calm.” I instructed him calmly and took a deep breath.
“Okay.” Hunter replied to me. I took a deep breath and stood up from the chair in my office, where I and Hunter came after leaving Amelia and Arthur in a guest’s room with medical facilities.
I walked to the balcony and lit a cigar. My heart was still a mess and I don’t know the reason.
“Are you sure that you want to do this?” Velan asked me skeptically.
“Do you have a problem with the fact that she is tainted?” I asked him instead of answering his question.
“She was rped. She is not tainted. Her fear is from the time when she was assaulted,” Velan growled, defending Amelia angrily.
“Then why are you asking this stupid question?” I asked him sarcastically, ignoring his anger.
“Because she can’t be touched. Her reaction showed how deep her fear is rooted in her heart. If…. If she agrees with your condition, she has to be in close proximity with us. I don’t think that she should be able to do that.” He argued, and for the first time, I agreed with him without raising a question.
“But she is also the right she-wolf for this, Velan. She controlled her temper because of her status as a rogue. She is born to be a leader, and don’t forget that she is the successful CEO of not only one but three companies. She is the best choice against all the she-wolves the council has lined up for me.” I gave my argument, taking puffs from my cigar while staring at a blank point at the horizon.
One thing that made me admire Amelia the most is her protectiveness towards her people. She endured all our sarcasm and hatred during the whole ride for them only to get a chance to put her proposal in front of me.
“Alexander.” I glanced at Hunter over my shoulder when he called me softly.
“Is there a possibility that Amelia is that girl?” he asked and I almost crushed that tip of the cigar in my mouth.
“She was also poisoned and was assaulted before they threw her out of the pack, and rogues took her away.” He added in the same manner.
Velan also stood up abruptly, listening and analyzing both the situations.
“Bernard never gave us any useful information about that girl. We suspected that he erased her existence in the world purposely, and Amelia also hasn’t had any connection with any pack in our knowledge.” His speculation was precise, but it left me breathless.
I took the cigar out of my mouth, but my fingers trembled hard.
Surely, Amelia got my interest, but I wished that she wasn’t that girl.
After feeling her fear, I don’t want her to be that girl. Amelia must have a deep hatred for her assailant, and I didn’t want to be that person.
I wanted her to trust me and lean on me for any help or when she would be down for any reason, but not to hate me.
“Do you think that Arthur will tell us about her past if we interrogate him?” I asked him calmly, but I was far away from being calm.
Velan was also in distress. Because of the wolfsbane mixed with that drug, Velan became too weak to have any memory of that girl, but I remembered her.
Amelia’s eyes were very familiar to those unfocused and dead eyes, but I still wish that she was not that girl.
“No. He would rather die than speak a word about her past. Their protectiveness is something that I admire about them,” he replied to me calmly.
I chuckled dryly while shaking my head in agreement.
“She woke up. She requested to see you,” he told me hurriedly.
I threw the cigar and walked back to the room without wasting a second.
It has been three hours that she has been unconscious. My urge to go and see her was so strong that I almost drew blood out of my palms a few times to suppress my desire.
“I don’t know but I want to see her too, Alexander. It’s not normal,” Velan said to me worriedly.
I didn’t pay attention to his worry. All I wanted was to see Amelia and to ensure that she is better now.
“Wait, Alexander. For Goddess’ sake, you are the king,” he grumbled through mind-link.
He is almost running behind me right now.
“My king.” Edwin suddenly appeared in front of me out of nowhere, making me stop abruptly when I took a turn at the corner of the corridor.
“What now?” I growled angrily.
“The council got the information about two rogues present in the palace. They request a meeting with you urgently,” he told me in a low and fearful voice.
