Chapter 13 can't trust them
Amelia’s P.O.V.
“We have a meeting with the king tomorrow, and your wounds are still not healed completely. I think you shouldn’t go to the Royal Pack, Amelia. I just received a message that Alpha Drake from the Light Shadow Pack complained about us to the king, stating that we were the ones who had been orchestrating all these attacks, making packs depend on our company for external security.” Sylvia told me with a grim expression, worried about my condition and angry about Alpha Drake’s scheme against us.
“He is our rival, Sylvia. This is nothing but a simple business tactic. He forgot that his security company is still not known to the Royal Administration. In the past two years, we snatched a few business opportunities from him. This move is understandable.” I comforted her in a weak voice and closed my eyes when I couldn’t bear the pain in my wounds.
“We can use his company against him in front of the king, right? He is not the CEO of that company on paper, but he is the one who established that company and even has a few high-paid contracts with a few packs.” Sylvia suggested, looking between me and Marcus expectantly.
“Let her rest, love. We all know that nothing can change her mind if she has decided something. We still have a day before we leave for the Royal Pack.” Marcus tried to comfort Sylvia, as she was restless right now.
“What if the king decided to believe Drake and ambush you guys after you enter the royal pack?” she asked and I sighed in my heart.
Her worry wasn’t baseless. In fact, I also had the same concern in my mind. The attack on the Light Ray Pack was nothing but a scheme against us. Those rogues didn’t kill any pack warrior present there at the time of attack but attacked us with their full strength as soon as we reached there.
Most of our teammates, including Luca, were injured during the fight.
Those rogues used wolfsbane painted on their paws, which seeped inside our bodies when they hurt us.
I took most of the hits because my body had a higher tolerance towards wolfsbane than others.
Thanks to those monsters for this, though.
Still, the concentration was high this time, and my wounds were not healing in the way they should. Luca was also injured, but his wolf healed him before the wolfsbane could seep into his bloodstream.
After finishing all the rogues, We succeeded in securing their border and also repaired and replaced all the damaged cameras there.
Luca even updated their security system, putting an advance firewall after he found a breach in the security system.
Someone from the royal pack hacked their system during the attack.
I could understand the reason for this hacking, but as the service provider, I needed to secure their security.
“We still need to try our best, Sylvia. I will go there with Luca.” I said to her in a tired voice.
“You are not setting foot outside our territory without me, Amelia.” Marcus growled, but I gave him a hard look.
“The group needs a leader like you with them to protect it, Marcus. You and Sylvia are the backbone of this group. So, you will stay back and will protect the pack. I will send you the signal immediately if I sense anything off so that you can take the group somewhere safe. I am sure that they will try to find our location while I will be gone.”
I was stern but my speculation was precise, and this isn’t about me.
He opened his mouth to retort but groaned angrily in the end.
I closed my eyes and decided not to talk about this for now.
What tomorrow will bring is always uncertain. This sudden event was like a small hurdle in my plan of revenge, but there is no way that I would let anything interrupt my plan.
I slowly opened my eyes when I heard the faint sound of the closing of the door.
The world in front of me was blurred, but it didn’t matter to me now.
I just stared at the roof blankly, throwing every thought out of my mind.
I needed to make a backup plan if the king refuses to give our group an official pack name.
Although I was adamant to avenge myself, Marcus, Luna, Sylvia, and so many others, so many other factors matter to me.
I hissed in pain when I tried to move on one side. I took a deep breath and slowly closed my eyes.
My wolf lost her life in saving me back then. She was already dead when they threw me out of the pack.
But she left a few of her powers with me. I learned them with time, but they had a certain limit.
No one, not even Marcus and Sylvia, knew about this.
I closed my eyes again and let my healing powers start healing my wounds.
I couldn’t be healed completely, but I will be good to attend the meeting with the king by tomorrow morning.
I slowly opened my eyes when my phone started ringing.
I looked at the nightstand, trying to figure out how to reach for my phone. I slowly raised my hand towards the nightstand and took the phone from the nightstand.
I picked up the call immediately as the call was about to cut off.
“Halo.” I said to the person who called me while putting the phone near my ear on the bed and closed my eyes.
My hands also had a few deep slashes. That’s why I wasn’t able to move them freely.
“You are hurt.” My eyes opened immediately when I recognized the voice.
For a few seconds, I couldn’t think of any reply. “You know that I watched you fighting with those rogues.” He added calmly, and I took a deep breath before closing my eyes again.
“In my line of work, injuries are evident, my king. We get paid for this.” I answered calmly, showing no hesitation or fear in my tone.
“You are very skilled in swordsmanship. I must say that it was interesting to see you fight with such great skill. Those rogues had no chance in front of you.” he praised, but it sounded like a mock.
“You flatter me, my king. I am nothing in comparison to you. If I have any chance in the future to learn from you, I will be the luckiest one.” I joked, trying to brush off the anger bubbling inside my heart.
I had worked so hard to perfect myself in swordsmanship, and he just mocked me.
He is the king, I got it, but he has no right to make fun of something that I earned after a great hardship.
“Definitely. In fact, I am looking forward to this.” He also joked, and a bitter smile appeared on my lips.
It was good that he couldn’t see me.
"Tell me something about your injuries," he suddenly asked, and I scoffed internally. Sylvia was right. We can't trust him.
