Chapter 10 his accusation stung
Amelia’s P.O.V. (Continued)
“What else can happen to her when her boss always hangs on her neck like a double-edged sword?” she questioned sarcastically while coming inside.
I smiled while pulling the file back to me. “Is that really you think?” Marcus asked her teasingly while going towards her.
I wrinkled my nose in disgust and immediately objected. “No PDA in my room. You two get out and get a room for yourselves, but not here.”
Sylvia giggled, but I didn’t look in their direction. I had no desire to watch them eating each other’s faces.
“You should get some sleep, Amelia. You are working constantly.” She said to me, making me smile faintly.
“I need to finish these three proposals before retiring for the night today, Sylvia. They are very important for our pack.” I replied to her while taking the pen again.
“But your health is also important. Do you think depriving yourself of sleep can bring anything good to you or to us?” she asked worriedly.
She was only two years older than me, but her motherly love and care provided the warmth that I missed all my life.
"I know, Sylvia. I assure you that after finishing these, I will straight go to my bed and will not wake up until I sleep to my heart's content." I assured her with a faint smile, putting my hand on my heart, giving my sentence a dramatic gesture, but she scoffed while rolling her eyes.
“I would have believed you if I hadn’t known you well, Amelia. Now stand up and come with me. You are going to rest now, and this is it.” She declared authoritatively.
I smiled in resignation this time.
She is bossy, but she cared about us a lot, especially about me.
“Okay, my lady. As you command.” I replied teasingly. “And what about me?” Marcus whined, trying to get her attention back on him.
“What about you? You are going to check the accounts, and one more thing.” She replied to him while I finished the last few sentences of the proposal that I had prepared to put in front of the king on why he should let us form a legal pack.
This is important to me. I wanted a home for all the people I my pack, but above all, I wanted to start my own plan of revenge on Berard Shaw.
I came out of my trance when my phone started ringing on the table. “I should have switched off your phone when I entered the room.” Sylvia fumed in anger, but I waited for Marcus to tell me who was calling me.
“It’s the king.” He told me and my heart skipped a beat. I thought that he took my number on whim. I never expected a call from him. We met yesterday.
I took the call and cleared my throat before answering him. I didn’t need to put the phone on my ear. I could hear him loud and clear from that distance too.
“Greetings, my king,” I greeted him formally. My heart was now beating anxiously.
“Amelia. I heard from Alpha Gabe that you want to convert your group of rogues into a legal pack.” He replied indifferently, but it was enough for me to get anxious.
“He told you the right thing, my king. We have more than two hundred families with us. Most of them were rescued by us after their packs banished them for wrong reasons. Some of them found us and joined us. They found their fated mates and started a family here. Now, as their leader, we wish to provide them the safety of a pack.” I explained formally.
“Banished after accusing them wrongly. This is a bold statement to make against already established packs, Amelia. You know that, right?” he asked, sarcasm evident in his voice, but it didn’t scare me.
“I know, my king. We provided temporary shelter to whoever joined us in the beginning. We investigate their accusations against their pack and only place them permanently with us if we find their claim right, my king.” I replied in the same formal voice.
“You mean to say that you have better investigation methods than us?” he asked, sounding angry this time.
“I dare not claim something like that, my king. I may be bold enough to state that we don’t let an actual criminal be our member, but I can’t say that our methods are better than yours. In terms of resources and connections, we are nowhere close to even the weakest pack.” I tried to stay calm because this conversation was crucial for the first phase of my revenge.
He didn’t say a word immediately, increasing my anxiety, but I stayed calm. To my relief, Marcus and Sylvia didn’t utter a word during the whole conversation.
“What’s your story, Amelia?” I felt as if someone had thrown me inside the boiling oil as soon as I heard his next question.
I don’t know why, but that horrible night played at the back of my mind immediately. I couldn’t even breathe while remembering the torment that I endured that night.
Wolfsbane seeping inside my vein, fading my senses, and then ….
“Is it that hard to say for what they accused you?” he asked sarcastically.
“I was banished as soon as I turned eighteen because my mate hated me for ruining his chance to get a strong mate. He and his friends beat me and injected me with wolfsbane after he forced me to accept his rejection. He …. He let…. Them rped me be… before they threw me out of the pack.”
I held Marcus’ hand tightly when he wrapped it around my upper chest from behind.
Marcus trembled hard when the king roared aloud. Everything in the room shook as if it were an earthquake, not his roar.
I closed my eyes, let the tears stream down. It had already been four years, but it felt like yesterday.
“You are safe, kiddo. You are safe now. No one can hurt you anymore. You are now capable enough to kill whoever wants to hurt you.” Marcus comforted me through mind-link.
I whimpered aloud, digging my nails into his hand.
“Hey, Amelia. You didn’t have to tell him this, girl. We don’t care if he grant us a legal name or not. We care about feelings and well-being of our people, including you. You don’t have to put yourself in so much pain only to prove your point in front of him,” Sylvia comforted me in a low voice.
I stiffened when I realized what she said. “He hung up. You don’t worry.” She told me hurriedly when she felt my distress.
I slowly opened my eyes and took a deep breath. Marcus kept holding me tightly. The back of my head was now resting on his upper chest.
I could hear his steady heartbeat, and it worked as a lullaby to me. I took Marcus’s first name and Sylvia’s last name as my last name after Marcus took me as his godsister.
Not only him, but also his wolf loves me as his younger sister.
