Chapter 37

FRED

We decide to head back home after our saunter in the woods and just as we were about to enter the palace, someone runs up to me and points at Alexia.

I recognize him as the guard from the courtroom earlier today.

"Speak!" I command as he tries to catch his breath while still pointing at Alexia.

"She's the one your My lord" he proclaims. Fear and horror evident in his eyes as he spoke. Alexia looks at me and back at him again. She looks horrified and terrified at the same time.

"She's the one what?" I repeat, already feeling agitated.

"She's the one who served us at the dungeon that night that alpha Jed escaped"

"What???" Alexia shrieked in sheer horror.

"Do you know the penalties of such accusations" I bellowed.

"I know my lord. But I won't lie. She's the one"

Alexia faced me and shook her head vigorously.

"Alexia?"

"I would never. I didn't even know that he had escaped. I swear on my life my lord"

I look at her intently, not knowing what to believe right now. How is this even possible? Alexia is as pure as the sky above. She would never try to do something as despicable as that. This is clearly a trick or something.

"Grab her!" Asher's voice jolts me back to reality. He is furious and his eyes are glowing red which only meant that he is angry.

"Asher"

"Don't make me repeat myself again" he says angrily and they grab Alexia who was struggling, writhing and protesting against their wish and took her away.

Asher walked away and I trailed behind him till I fell into steps with him.

"How could you Asher?" I yell the minute we walked into the bedroom. "You didn't even let me handle to situation"

"Handle it?" He scoffed "You should be thankful that I'm your brother otherwise I would've ripped you off into shreds."

"You didn't even let him speak?"

"He already told me about it. He saw you both together and came to me before you both got back to the palace."

"Alexia is innocent." I Declared "She would never do anything to hurt anyone. She would never free Alpha Jed"

He gives me a deadly stare.

"She was a member of his pack before she got here Fred. Jed doesn't have any allies here. She's the only one who would free him. She has been the mystery to the puzzle all along" he barked at me.

This conversation is basically pointless and whoever is doing this knows this as well. Asher thinks with his anger so he cannot see the truth in front of him. He is blind and is only seeing exactly what they want him to see. This is all a big conspiracy and Asher is just a pawn on the chessboard here.

"Why are you so certain that she's the enemy Asher. hasn't she proven herself more than enough to you?" I ask him. "She saved my life and gave up her freedom. Why won't you trust her?"

"What has she done to you brother? We are in grave danger because of that woman"

"No Asher!" I whisper "We are going to be I grave danger because you are refusing to listen. Alexia is innocent. I know she is. Please let her go"

"She freed the man that killed our parents. The man that murdered them in cold blood".

"You do not have proof of that and she isn't the man that killed our parents. This is exactly what they wanted you to think and sadly, you're doing it?" I scolded him in a bid to try and reach out to him but I know that it is futile. Once Asher has made up his mind, it's almost very difficult to change it.

"Why are you so taken in with this girl that you will defile the orders of your brother for her?"

I shifted my gaze to the opposite direction. In as much as I know that Asher and Alexia do not have a relationship, I still don't think it's time for Asher to find out that I am also mated to his woman.

It would cause a huge problem and rift between the both of us. He will find out eventually but not like this and most definitely not yet.

"I do not understand" I respond trying to play it safe. The less he knows, the better for everyone and plus, Alexia is in the dungeon. No one can call what Asher would do to her if he finds out especially now that he considers her a traitor to our pack. He would hurt her. In the cruelest way imaginable.

"Precisely my point" he walks up to me till we are both levelheaded. "Alexia is my mate Fred. So do not try to go against me when it comes to issues concerning her. Last time I checked, she is mine. My woman"

My wolf scratched and growled in anger. He was angry. Asher just claimed what was his and it doesn't sit well with him.

"And yet you lock her up. She is your mate and then you treat her like she is nothing but only a slave"

"Because that is what she is and if I am your brother then you would respect my decisions. You may consider her a friend and maybe that was all she needed to make her move on you. Open your eyes Fred. You came back home Deeply hurt by wild ones because of her and now Jed has escaped. Doesn't it say anything to you?" She shakes me vehemently.

"I am leaving" I announced and turn to walk away from his chambers but his next words stop me.

"You will not see that woman Fred otherwise, I will forget that we are changelings born of the same mother" he swore and I turn to look at him. He was dead serious alright.

I stormed out of his chambers but I make a promise to myself that I will see Alexia, even if it's the last thing I do.
