Chapter 149 What came back

Chapter 149 What came back
ELARA’S POV

What did Nyxar know that I didn't? I didn't have any recollection of what happened during my absence, I just assumed I had ceased to exist and Nyxar was here claiming to know something I didn't.

I shifted uneasily as I stared at him, waiting for him to say what he knew so he could be out of here, it was obvious he didn't come here for a fight, not yet. If he wanted to fight, it would have started long ago, there would be no time for small talk.

“What is it? What do you know?” Beros barked from behind me, his patience growing thin.

Nyxar smirked lazily as his attention shifted from me to Beros “well well, aren't you an impatient man? For someone that waited for how long? 3000 years to be reunited with the love of his love, I thought you'd have learnt patience by now”

Nyxar teased Beros, effectively drawing a growl out of him, but before Beros could continue any further. Nyxar held a hand up and began to speak again.

“I'm sure you know by now I didn't come here to fight, at least not yet” he said, flashing that wicked smile towards me again.

“Elara, such a sweet short form for your name” he mused, tasting the name on his tongue “I know a lot, all those years in the abyss might have helped me” he flexed his arms, allowing his veins to pop on his skin.

They were black, black magic ran through his veins, it had replaced the blood in his veins, there was no salvation for him. He had been consumed by it through and through.

“While you were busy floating around Elara…” he drawled out my name “I was finding out things, how do you think I got out so fast? No one gets out of the abyss. Well — no one, except me. I wonderr..…” he held a hand to his chin “what would it have been like if you had been the one lost in the abyss?”

I was tired of all this, he was stalling.

“Enough” I barked, gritting my teeth as I fought through the stench of his black magic “tell us what you're here for, or be gone. I know very well you're not here to fight, if you were, it would be carnage by now and I know it's because you're not strong enough” I had brought out the only card I had up my sleeve, hoping it would make a difference.

His eyes widened but a smile still played on his lips. “You're right, you think you have me figured out huh?” he shook his head, “well you're right but you're also strong. As you can see” he flexed his arms again, letting the black tendrils dance around his skin “I am strong enough, but there is one more thing I need” he stopped, turned around to look at all the wolves around the clearing and brought his attention back to Beros and I.

“I’ll be back, it's not time yet. You would only come back like a pest if I destroy you again, you haven't remembered everything yet, so a piece of your soul remains away from you, I need you complete to ruin you, and your lover” his eyes flickered to Beros.

“I can see the bond between –”

“Shut up” Beros moved to stand in front of me, “don't say another word”

Nyxar’s eyes widened in surprise again.

“Ahhh, I see what's going on here”

“Be gone Nyxar, you don't get to talk about the bond between us, go and prepare your forces and we will prepare ours, it is a war you want and a war you shall get”. I could see Beros' muscles had grown taut with anger, he was holding himself back from leaping over and tearing Nyxar into pieces.

“She doesn’t know, does she?” Nyxar’s voice was low now, as if revealing something neither of us knew.

What was he talking about? What didn’t I know? I glanced at Beros and his expression remained unchanged, his eyes trained on the monster in front of us.

“What’s that? What are you saying? Spit it out you liar” I wanted him gone from here, my wolves were too exposed.

“I can see, so you failed to tell her, didn’t you?” Nyxar took a step forward. Beros didn’t move back, neither did I.

“GET OUT” Beros said again, his fists clenched and unclenched at his sides.

And it seemed like that was all the confirmation Nyxar needed because he suddenly burst into a loud maniac laughter, clutching his stomach as he doubled over in laughter.

“This – this is – so funny,” he said between laughs.

“She doesn’t even know, she doesn’t know Beros. Oh, you’re so pitiful. Love makes us fools, doesn’t it?”

I glanced again between the both of them. I had moved from behind Beros to stand at his side. What exactly was Nyxar saying?

“What is he saying Beros?” I asked.

Beros slowly turned to face me, his muscles still taut and ready for attack as he spared me a glance “nothing. He’s saying rubbish, spilling lies from his mouth”

“Oh, am I? Beros, why don’t you tell her what you did to bring her back this early. She was supposed to be gone for much longer? Tell her, tell her what you did” Nyxar said, another smirk forming as he looked at us.

“Beros, what is he saying? What did you do?” I knew Beros had made sacrifices, but I thought he had just bound his soul to mine so that I would come back quicker through the tether to his soul. What else had he done?

Beros didn’t answer me, instead he took a step towards Nyxar who instinctively raised his hands up. “Don’t you dare Beros. You know I’m stronger than you, you couldn’t even touch a hair on my head, it’s better you stay back and tell her the truth, tell her how far you went. Tell her how similar we are”

“I am nothing like you” Beros grunted out, his silver eyes blazing with fury now.

“Oh, but you are, we all made sacrifices to get to where we are now. You and I, we sacrificed the most, and to the same being. Tell her. Tell her how far you went”

Beros was definitely hiding something, there was something the two men knew that I didn’t, and it irked me.

I held Beros’ arm as I asked again, my tone firm this time “What is he talking about?”

“It’s all lies Elara, he’s just telling lies”

Nyxar clapped his hands over his ears several times like a mad man “nooooo nooooo, they’re not lies Beros, they’re not. Tell herrrrr, tell her how you went to the abysssss. Tell her what you diddd, what you sacrificed, tell her what came back”
