Chapter 143 Chapter 144

Getting to the front of the office, Amelia was about to place a knock on the door but was still hesitant, as her heart was still pounding heavily.

Not yet knowing what she was going to tell the new owner of the hospital about her being late, she decided to wait a little bit and figure out something before knocking. There was no way she was going to tell the new owner of the hospital that she came late because she overslept; surely he's going to think that it's what she always does.

"Tricksy, why aren't you saying anything? We are in big trouble here, and you aren't even suggesting any ideas to me," Amelia said to Tricksy as she mind-linked with her.

"Amelia, why is it that it is only when you get into trouble that you call me? When the moon goddess gave me to you, did she tell you that I am a problem-solving machine?" 'Tricksy?' asked Amelia with an angry tone.

"Tricksy, I have never for once said that you are a problem-solving machine. If I always reach out to you whenever I have a problem, it's because you are all I have. If I don't reach out to you, then who am I going to reach out to?" Amelia asked Tricksy, who huffed angrily.

"Well, if I'm the only person you have, just as you are saying, then you should learn how to ask me things. I'm your wolf and not your slave," Tricksy said to Amelia, her tone still angry.

"Okay, Mrs Tricksy, I have already heard. From now on, I will be minding how I address you. Can you now please tell me if you have any idea of the excuse I can give the new owner of this hospital? I don't want to say that I came late because I overslept," Amelia said to Tricksy.

"Come on, Lia, just tell him the truth; who doesn't oversleep? "You are a doctor, and you need enough sleep to function well at the hospital, and being the new owner of this hospital, I'm sure that he's a doctor, and he also understands that," Tricksy said to Amelia.

"I think you are right; I will just tell him the truth, and he can think whatever he wants," Amelia said to Tricksy before knocking softly on the door.

"Come in." A hoarse voice sounded from inside, and with that Amelia furrowed her brows in surprise.

"Tricksy, doesn't that voice sound familiar?" Amelia asked Tricksy through their mind link.

"I don't know; I wasn't paying attention. He asked you to come in, right? So go inside and see who the new owner in question is," Tricksy said to Amelia, who slowly opened the door of the office and walked inside only to see that the chair on which the new director was sitting was facing the wall, so she couldn't see his face.

"Good morning, sir," Amelia greeted him in a polite manner.

"Good morning, Doctor Amelia, you are late," the hoarse voice of the new owner of the hospital, who was still facing the wall, resounded once again.

"Yes, sir, Adrian, I'm late, and I'm so sorry about that. I overslept last night; that's why, but believe me, it's the first time that it's happening, and I'm going to try my best to make sure that it never happens again," Amelia said to the new owner of the hospital, and with that, the rotatable chair slowly turned around, revealing Adrian, who was sitting on the chair while grinning ear to ear.

"Doctor Amelia, you don't have to apologise for oversleeping. From today onwards, any day you feel too tired, just take a day off. No one is going to complain, not me or anyone else.

"Thanks for your generosity, sir, but just as I said earlier, I'm going to try my best to make sure that what happened today never happens again," Amelia said to Adrian with a blank facial expression.

"Is that really what you are going to try to do, or are you going to try your best to make sure never to come to this hospital again?" Adrian asked Amelia, who furrowed her brows at him.

"And why would I do that?" Amelia asked Adrian with furrowed brows.

"Well, you tend to always run away from anywhere that I am, and since I'm now the owner of this hospital, you are surely going to run away so that you wouldn't have to meet me every day, or am I mistaken? Adrian asked Amelia.

"Well, you said that I always tend to run away from anywhere you are, and you, on the other hand, always tend to come after me. Why? Can't you just give up?" Amelia asked Adrian, who smiled before standing up from the chair where he was sitting and walking towards her.

"Believe me, sweetheart, I have tried to give up on chasing after you countless times, but I just can't; no matter how hard I try, I always find myself chasing after you. So tell me, why is it so hard for me to stop chasing after you, or did you bewitch me or something like that?" Adrian asked Amelia as he got closer to her, and with that she shot him a surprised glare.

"What do you mean by 'did I bewitch you', and why the hell should I bewitch you in the first place?" Amelia asked Adrian with furrowed brows.

"Well, I don't know, sweetheart. If you didn't bewitch me then, why can't I just get over you? Why do I have to keep on doing what I'm not supposed to do in order to get close to you, things like buying this hospital? Or is it your beauty that is bewitching me?" Adrian asked Amelia as he playfully caressed her cheeks that were already turning red.

"Or is it your lips that always make me want to kiss you and do ungodly things to you that are bewitching me?" Adrian asked Amelia as he leaned forward to kiss her, and seeing that she didn't back away, he slowly claimed her lips in a passionate kiss that she immediately reciprocated.
