Chapter 77

Chapter 72 : Moonleaf herb

Alpha Ashton's POV

My anger rekindling at Mira as I dragged her outside, fingers wrapped firmly on her wrist.

“ What are you doing?” she growled silently, her teeth gritting.

Responding to her would be pointless. Instead, I tightened my grip and steered her toward the tree where my horse was tethered.

“Listen to me, Mira. I'm not a fool. What game are you playing?” My eyes reddened, burning at Mira like fire as I pressed her harder on the tree.

“What are you talking about? You're hurting me” She snapped back at me, her voice sharp as usual.

“I don't repeat myself! Who are you Mira?” I growled, pinning her harder to the tree.

Her eyes rolled mischievous, her breath  heavy.

Struggling to pull off my hands, she accidentally hurt her head on the tree.

“I have no idea what  you’re talking—just stop already!” frustration washed through her.

“It's you right? You appeared in the pack house last night”  I said, my voice seemingly soft.

She pushed herself backward, her breath falling sporadically.

“Don’t keep me waiting! Just answer me!” I barked at her. “You were in the pack house last night. True or false?”

“Why would you even ask me that? Weren’t you the one who drove me away from the pack house last night?” she admitted at once without shame.

“Oh, I see.” Giving a throaty cough, I let go of Mira's hands. “ So I was right all along. It was you, Mira.” I muttered.

“See what you've done to my skin. You hurt me, ” she whined.

Shoving her chin, I pushed it up to meet my gaze.

Our gazes lingered for a while and I noticed a certain light simmering from her eyes.

“You have powers…evil power. But I'd find it out soon!”

I let my finger slip off her chin and her head fell and then she sneered.

“I’ll let you do your research.” Her eyes rolled, her voice lowering. “You have a short time to do your research.”

Attempting to walk away  from me, I grabbed her hand, pulling her back to where she stood earlier.

“You don't walk away when I'm still talking”

She gave a slight chuckle. “You need to go back to the Pack. The moonleaf would lose its potency soon”  She said, her words echoing carelessly in my ears.

“ You words stinks” I raised my upper teeth slightly in irritation.

“Your life's at risk?” She scoffed, her hands crossed firmly around her chest.

“ Don't you ever show yourself in the pack house? I won't warn you again” I warned, my voice showing authority.

“I look too pretty right?” She swayed her voluptuous body, showing off her hips.

Scoffing,I pulled from her, a little smile playing on my lips.

“ Then get a mate for yourself. I am not the kind of man you can charm.” I taunted and quickly turned to untie my horse.

“This isn't a game over, Alpha” She shouted after me.

“Be ready to die then” I warned sternly.

Without turning to face Mira,  I pulled my horse and rode off.

The sun had risen brightly in the sky before I arrived at the pack house.

Jared greeted me warmly and followed me inside.

“How did it go with her, Annabelle?” I asked him.

“Luna hasn't stepped a foot out of the pack house since you left.”
Jared replied and I nodded in satisfaction.

“I’ll Just be inside”  I turned to leave but Jared suddenly interrupted me.

“ One of two of the prisoners from Dark Wolf Pack was found dead some moments after while you were away”  Jared announced to me.

“Bury  him immediately.” I commanded and continued walking towards the royal chambers.

The hallway was quiet when I walked past.

It seemed like a second eye was gnawing at me but I ignored the entire feeling.

Getting to the chambers, I pulled the door gently and sighted Annabelle seated on the floor with a bag scattered on the floor in between her thighs.

As soon as she noticed my presence, she leaned her back lifelessly on the wardrobe as though her whole world had been shattered.

Then, I noticed the   strong smell of a particular leaf in the chambers that made me sneeze.

“What are you doing?” I calmly said as I walked gently to Annabelle.

She raised her gaze to me, unable to speak a word.

I read the frustration in her eyes and gently crouched.

Firstly, my eyes scanned the leaves on the floor and the green bottle standing on the floor.

“What are these for? And why are you sitting  on the floor?” I demanded.

Shifting her gaze to me, her voice flattened.

“Everything’s been ruined…all my efforts are gone” her voice cracked.

Taken aback, my brows lifted. “ What are you talking about?”

“It took life to get those,” she said, pointing at the leaves on the floor.

I shifted my gaze to the leaves and picked one up. It seems to have withered yet its scent still filled the air.

“ What leaf is this?” I sneezed again.

While I sneezed, I noticed something rumbling in my stomach. But before I could speak any further, I felt a sudden need to use the bathroom.

“Are you okay?” Annabelle asked when she noticed my discomfort.

“ I'd be right back” I rushed to the bathroom, sneezing ceaselessly.

When I'd returned, I realized Annabelle had removed everything from the floor. But the smell still lingered.

When she walked back inside, she saw me lying on the bed and quickly walked to me.

“What leaf is that? The smell almost killed me” I groaned a little, wiping my nose.

“Acutally,” She began, her voice lowering. “ That's not just a leaf but a herb. It has the power to neutralize the poison and cure abdominal pain. The other one in the bottle is an oil extracted from an oak tree. It's meant to take away all aches and muscle pain”

I stayed silently till Annabelle was done talking and I decided to speak up.

“You can't take my pain away Annabelle. Stop making things difficult for me” My voice struck sternly as I struggled to regain my position.

“But I can save you. I can heal your pain” her voice quivered.

“Just stop!” I snapped angrily and stood up to leave the chamber.
