Chapter 73: The book shop

Imogen's pov

I stared up at the sky, the plane has left a long time ago and it looks as if they were taken away from me forever, I felt numb and I didn't know what to do at the moment. I exhaled sharply and walked back to my car, as soon as I entered my car, I rest my head and began to cry in pain

"My children" I muttered under my breath, I hoped that it was all a dream, I couldn't tell Adam that the kids are no longer in this town and I don't know what country Maxwell took them to

I took a deep breath and then exhales trying to calm my nerves because I know that crying here wouldn't solve anything, it might only make things worse by making me have a slight headache and I needed to be strong. Just when I thought that everything was going well in my life and everything will be alright and all these happened

I turn on the engines of the car and hit the roads, I was crying all the way and the more I tried to stop the tears from falling the more the tears rolled down my eyes like an uncontrollable tap but I needed to control it. I decided to let the tears fall freely so that I wouldn't make the mistake of crying in front of Adam or his father

The roads seemed empty everything around me was numb but I needed to concentrate. I stopped the car in front of a supermarket, I thought that maybe seeing other people around and the noise can help me get my mind off my current problem. I wiped the tears from my eyes and I got out of the car, I entered the supermarket, I didn't know what to buy but I just walked around it and after a few minutes, I realized that this is not the place that I am supposed to be, I picked a chocolate biscuit and paid for it before exiting the supermarket, I entered into my cat and drove down to the nearby library, maybe I needed to be in a quiet place do that I can listen to my thoughts

I parked the car close to the bookshop and then I briskly made my way into the bookshop, "Hello, my name is Hannah, I'm the shopkeeper," A blonde hair girl said, she smiles so genuinely and I envied her, I wanted to smile like this someday, with nothing bothering me but whenever I'm so closed to my happiness, it seems like something is always pulling me away from it and it becomes too far for me to reach.

"Hello," I said and waved at her, they were not many people in the bookshop, it was quiet and I guessed that they weren't up to five people inside the bookshop but that was not my problem

"Is there any book in particular that you would love to see?" She said with the same sweet and genuine smile on her face

"No, I'm fine thank you, I can help myself" I replied and walked further into the bookshop, I caught sight of a popular love story, "Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte," I said out loud, it use to be my favorite when I was a teenage, I was in love with the book's plot and not to mention Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, those were good love stories I read, I always imagined myself as Elizabeth and I hoped for Adam to be my Darcy but all of it was a dream, Adam could never be Darcy, I realized that Adam isn't someone that would fight for love

I flipped through the pages of the book, with a smile on my face, I remembered when I use to imagine myself as the Luna and mate of Adam, that almost came through but Maggie came into the picture and Adam's father never liked me to start with. And right now, he likes me and this while drama happened, I was confused and I couldn't help but blame myself because I caused it in the first place, I could have taken the children the moment Maxwell felt vulnerable but what did I do, I decided to leave them with him for a while and Adam was standing there looking at me

I didn't come here to read any book, I came here to listen to my thoughts and it was working although my heart still aches, it hurts so much to even think of it. After spending hours in the bookshop, I picked a book from the shelf, it was a memoir "The glass castle" I read the title out loud and then I walked up to Hannah and I paid for it

"This is a great choice," She said and I smiled back at her, I exited the bookshop and entered into my car, I don't plan on telling Adam anything at the moment and I plan on coming up with something before he asks me. I drove straight to the hospital with my heart still aching and I was sure that my eyes are red, I looked at them through my car mirror and it showed that I have been crying and I know that Adam wouldn't fail to notice this.

My car finally came to a halt in the hospital parking lot and I can't out of it, I didn't know what excuse to give about my eyes but I hope that he would believe whatever I say. I left the book inside the car and I walked into the building, I kept my head high and my gaze low. Deep down I hoped that no doctor or nurse would stop me because I wasn't in the mood to say hello or answer any questions or even talk about the successful surgery. I opened the door of Adam's father's room and he was sitting on a chair beside his father, they were both in a deep discussion
