CHAPTER HUNDRED TWELVE
Enya pov
I wake up alone.
I rub my eyes and slowly take in my surroundings, but Vince isn't around. As I climb out of bed, fear overtakes me. What if Vincent regrets what we did and left so he wouldn't be constantly reminded of his bad decision. What if he didn't want to mark me but realised that far too late?
The scenarios run through my mind as I rush to the bathroom, still holding onto the tiny bit of hope that he woke up early and needed to freshen up. But nothing. What is it with that man that he always gets what he wants and leaves me behind as soon as I'm not as convenient? Perhaps Leader Dirk was right; maybe it's not worth it to try and view werewolves as humans while they're not. Fuck it, even I'm not human. Who the Hell even knows what I am anymore?
My shoulders shrink as I walk to the closet, grab the only set of clothing I can call my own, and walk to the bedroom door. It's locked. So predictable, God damn it!
I grab the spare key from the nightstand and unlock the door, making sure to lock it as soon as I leave the bedroom. If I don't run into Vince, at least I'll create an illusion that I'm still asleep, and the ass will get a little of his own medicine. God, he has the nerve and a real talent to piss me off.
As I walk down the hall toward the stairs, several Omegas who have been cleaning the Alpha's floor greet me. They all address me as Luna, but I don't feel like one. Maybe I would if their Alpha would give a shit about me.
I roll my eyes, go straight down the stairs, and almost run into the kitchen. I'm starving, and the heavenly smell of cooking doesn't help my case. When I enter the kitchen, I notice Brent standing by the stove, but no one else is there. I wonder why the packhouse is so empty. But then again, I didn't bother to check what time it was before I left the bedroom. Brent turns to me and grins, "Good evening, Luna." He emphasizes the word Luna, and I'm not sure if I like it.
"Good evening," I ask as I approach the refrigerator. "How are you feeling?"
"Much better, thanks to you. Thank you for being there for Aros while I was in the hospital, and thank you for the blood. The baby and I are very grateful for everything you did for us." I turn to Brent and notice tears in his eyes. The food doesn't seem important anymore as I rush to him and pull Brent into a tight hug. Whatever I did for him and Aros wasn't about getting a better reputation; anyone would be there for them in the moment of need.
Yet, before I can say a word and reassure Brent, a loud growl shakes the packhouse, and a second later, I hear someone's footsteps, reminding me of a dresser falling down the stairs. Who in the world is that damn heavy that they sound like that? I raise an eyebrow as Brent steps away and stares at the kitchen door wide-eyed.
It takes me a few seconds to realize the cause of the horrible noises. Vincent. Very, very angry, Vincent.
My gaze darts back and forth between Vincent and Brent. Shit, if he's that angry, the poor guy could be in danger- who knows what my asshole of a mate could do. I stand in front of Brent and raise my voice at Vincent. "Who do you think you are, running around like an elephant in a china shop while the rest of the pack is asleep? We have kids here! And to come in here and look like a fucking lunatic in front of a pregnant person? Get a grip, Vince!" As soon as I understand what I just said aloud, I slap my hands over my mouth and look at Brent. My eyes grow nearly as big as his, and in the next moment, tears stream down my cheeks. "Brent, I'm so sorry; I didn't mean to tell him. Please, I'm so, so sorry, it was an accident."
Vince is quick to speak up. "I knew it before anyone opened their mouth. There are some things you couldn't hide from an Alpha, even if you tried your best." He takes a few steps toward me as I turn to look at him. The anger is gone, and suddenly, he's looking at me with nothing but love and admiration. Even his voice becomes softer. "But you, princess, why the fuck you leave the bedroom?" Vince asks me as his fingers grip my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. No matter how angry I want to be with him, I can't if the man acts like this.
I let out a breath and shake my head. "You left me alone, and I didn't want to sleep anymore. Besides, I was hungry, and Brent's cooking smells so good, I couldn't resist." I cross my arms in front of my chest, trying to make a point, but the smile that spreads across Vince's lips and the barely audible chuckle prove that my attitude amuses him. Damn, he should be scared of me, not laughing every time I do my best to look scary.
Vince's eyes dart from me to Brent, and he suddenly smiles. "Brent, would you mind setting aside a portion of whatever you are cooking? Our Luna is quite a grumpy cat when she's hungry. Aros will come downstairs in a moment, but I really need to kidnap your friend to spend some one to one time with her." The tension is gone as quickly as it appeared earlier. Vince grabs my hand and leads me out of the kitchen without asking if I want to follow him. That savage! Goodbye, dear food, you will forever be in my memory!
He drags me into his office, nearly forces me inside, and locks the door. I expect a rant about the bedroom and everything, but instead, he pulls me into a passionate kiss. Now all anger and annoyance are gone- it's just the two of us; nothing else matters. As he breaks the kiss, Vince rests his forehead against mine. "They were right; kissing your mate is the best feeling ever." He whispers, and a slight blush appears on my cheeks.
Not wanting to get uncomfortable, I clear my throat. "So, what did you want to talk about? And don't tell me you dragged me here just for the kiss because I wouldn't believe you. I know you, Vincent Romano. You don't give a shit about people being around while we are kissing. Spit it out!" I take a step back, and Vince immediately tries to follow me, but I put my hand on his chest to keep some distance. When we're this close, neither of us can think straight or focus on what we should be doing instead of what we want to do.
"Building a barrier? As if that could stop me. Didn't you say you knew me, angel? Besides, here I was, thinking that you wanted some fun on the office desk," Vince pouts like a child. I laugh at his behaviour, but luckily it doesn't seem to bother him. "I love the sound of your laughter, you know that?" He adds, ignoring my attempts to keep the distance. Once again, he steps so close to me that there's no space between our bodies, and it's not just my cheeks that burn up. Vince is a master at forcing my mind into the gutter.
I roll my eyes and do my best to ignore his attempts to distract me. "Spit. It. Out."
A deep sigh of frustration leaves Vincent's lips as he runs his fingers through his hair. "I think I found your father."
His words echo in my mind. The office is deadly silent, and I have no idea how to react to his announcement. But there must be more to it than that because when Vince comes clean with the details, he seems even more concerned than before. I raise an eyebrow and wait for him to speak up again. It's not my job to pry the information out of him with a pair of pliers. Vincent throws his head back and hides his face behind his palms. "I fucked up, I fucked up so bad. I'm sorry." He whispers, obviously caught between so many emotions.
This time, I'm the one reaching out to him. I put a hand on Vince's shoulder, trying to calm him down. "Whatever is going on, you can tell me. I'm here for you, just like you're always here for me. Whatever it is, we'll get through it, hand in hand." It may sound stupid, but at least I'm trying to make a point. Vince needs to know that we're on this journey together, and we need to support each other if we want our relationship to work.
"I noticed the birthmark behind your ear, and I've seen it before. A good friend of my dad's had the same birthmark on his chest, but it was much bigger. Then, I decided to talk to Aros about the possibilities, and as we recalled everything from our childhood, I remembered that his mate was a human. This man was one of the strongest Alphas known to our kind; he came from a pure bloodline of a long lost tribe. The last of his own kind. I think you might be his daughter," Vince stares off into the distance as he keeps throwing incredible information at me. I stare at him like an idiot, unable to answer or ask anything. Just now, I found out that the man I thought was my father was nothing but a fraud, and shortly after, I found out that someone else could be my father? There's no way a person can take in such information and react to it without freaking out, so I try to keep it all to myself.
Vince's eyes shift to me. "And that's not the worst part. I screwed up so bad; you have no idea how sorry I am. It's your right to refuse to stay around me; I'll understand, but please, I beg you, understand that I wasn't thinking straight. It's all my fault. And I'm so fucking sorry," Vince grabs my hands as he tries to get to me. I open and close my mouth, but instead of saying something, I wait for him to finish. "If you're his daughter, you could be pregnant. I didn't use protection, and since I marked you, I didn't pull out. I know I'm a fucking idiot, but please don't hate me. I know you're not ready for motherhood, and it's unfair of me to force you into such a mess, but I swear, I couldn't think straight. I'm so fucking sorry, Enya, please believe me!" Vince has tears streaming down his cheeks. I can see the sincerity in his eyes, but the state of shock Vince pulled me in by announcing those things is too much.
I look down at my flat stomach, pull my hand out of his and place it right where the baby would be if I were pregnant. I cry along with Vince as I look up at him and whisper, "I might become a mom?" My bottom lip trembles as I speak. I don't know what to think, what to do, or how to feel.
I assume Vince sees the fear in me as he lets go of my hands and takes a step back. His face contorts in fear, and the next moment, he's punching the wall with so much force, it leaves a hole. I step back and stare at him as he rages. I wish I could run to him and calm him down, but if Vince is right and there could be a baby, I'm not going to risk the life of an unborn child to calm a full-grown man. Once he's done trashing the office, Vince breaks down the door and pauses for a moment. "I'll let the doctor know you need a checkup and that you're getting rid of it if you are pregnant."
