CHAPTER HUNDRED ELEVEN
Vincent pov
We lie in bed; Enya sleeps in my arms, and I can't fall asleep. Even when I try to close my eyes, I'm too excited to pass out. Now, I know what absolute bliss feels like. To be one with my mate and hold her while she sleeps is something I wouldn't change for the world.
I run my fingers through her hair, and something unusual catches my eye. Why didn't I notice this earlier? I move a little closer to check if I didn't imagine things, but there it is- impossible to mistake for an ordinary birthmark. Carefully, I get out of bed, pull the covers over Enya's body, and sneak into the bathroom. Grabbing the clothes I left on the floor, I get dressed and leave the bedroom. I won't be away for long; I lock the door so no one can disturb her sleep- Enya needs it. Many women sleep for a full day after being marked, but since she's not a pureblood werewolf, I don't know how she'll feel.
I mind-link Aros and warn him to be in my office before I get there. I almost run down the stairs and hallway; I need some goddamn answers. Luckily, my Beta is at the office door when I arrive. "I hope it's quick; I have some shit going on," Aros groans as I open the door for him.
"I know, Brent's pregnant, and he's as hormonal as a bitch in heat, I get that. Before you ask me anything- the doctor had to tell me; I'm the one taking care of the pack's paperwork, including everything from the hospital. Congratulations, brother, you are going to be a great father. Aside from the nice conversation I'd like to have right now, the sooner we start this shit, the sooner we are done. How does that sound?" I manage to get close enough to pull Aros into a tight hug. I wanted to wait until he was comfortable enough to tell me, but I think he should know I'm aware of the situation. Besides, I've been grinning like a kid every time I see the two of them, and I wanted to throw myself into their happiness a little and support them on this new side of their lives.
Aros returns the hug, and thankfully, he doesn't look pissed off or upset about the fact that I know. If anything, my best friend seems relieved. He sits down and waits for me to speak up. "I noticed something. It's a mark behind Enya's ear, and I kid you not, I've seen it before. You have seen it too, that's why I asked you to come here. Do you remember my father's friend, Alpha Blade?" I sit down next to Aros and fix my gaze on his face as he tries to recall the man I mentioned. As children, we often went to that pack, but unfortunately, most of my memories consist of the times without my father. Still, the man did his best to be a father figure to me whenever he was around, and Luna was the kindest woman I have ever met. She was a true Luna, a pure soul, a woman who always cared more about others than herself. One time I joined the training, and she was there, kicking a punching bag. I couldn't understand why a woman, a human woman at that, would decide to train, but she had the answer. One that I will never forget because it baffled me beyond explanations. She was training to be strong enough to protect the pack members if there was an attack. A damn human had more protective instincts than some of the Alphas I know.
After a moment of silence, Aros scratches the back of his neck and speaks up. "Yeah, I think I do. That's the poor guy who died a couple of years ago, and your stepmother's mate bought his title and territory, right?" He brings up the most unpleasant thing associated with the late Alpha's name. If it were up to me, I'd never let that fucker take over the territory and pack of such a great man. Alpha Blade wouldn't be too happy if he knew someone like Angela's fuckhead of a husband is leading the pack, and the greatness we could experience years ago faded with Blade's death. His Luna knew she couldn't lead the pack alone, and even though people begged her to stay, she refused, lest the Council force her into a marriage with a mateless Alpha. That woman was truly strong-willed and faithful. At least everyone knows how much she loved Blade.
I nod my head and move a little closer to Aros as if I'm about to share a secret. "That's right. But I'm here for a different reason. Remember that birthmark he had on his chest?" I whisper because I don't know who might be around or if Enya won't wake up, grab the spare key, and come looking for me. I need more information before I jump to conclusions. So it's better if my mate doesn't know everything in detail just yet.
Aros raises an eyebrow and chuckles. "The red flame? Dude, who could forget that? That shit was looking you right in the eye, and Alpha Blade liked to walk around shirtless; it was impossible not to notice." He acts like I'm an idiot and I managed to say the most obvious thing as if it's something no one could figure out. Well, how am I supposed to get into his mind and see the things he remembers or not?
I roll my eyes and ignore the sass in his voice. I get it, he's going through a lot of shit, and he's doing me a favour by coming here and staying close to me. I clear my throat and focus on the choice of the following words. "I agree with you, but now, listen to me carefully. If I remember correctly, my father once told me about the fire that ran through Blade's veins because the guy was from a tribe that literally lived in a volcano. A fucking volcano, man! He was one of the most powerful Alpha's known to werewolves. So, first of all, the birthmark represented his heritage and the Alpha bloodline that man carried. If that's not impressive enough, then let me tell you more." I stand back up and pace around the office. For some reason, it allows me to think more clearly and put every little detail exactly where it belongs. "We found out that the founder of the Alliance isn't Enya's biological father. He accepted the child of his high school sweetheart and a werewolf, only to raise her to kill her own kind. It's fucked up in a lot of ways. I still can't accept that someone would be sick enough to pursue such a plan. The guy is a fucking lunatic. But wait, there's more- technically, Enya is a hybrid, which explains why she was in heat. Yeah, I know she's not supposed to be alive since she's a mix of wolf and human, but they found a solution to the problem, as we can see. Now for the most important part- I did some quick research and found out that her name literally means "fire". The bastard in the cell told us he didn't change the name her biological father chose for her so he'd never forget who she was. Just a couple of minutes ago, I found a birthmark behind Enya's ear; the same one Alpha Blade had on his chest. It was said that Alpha Blade had fire running through his veins, he had a birthmark in the shape of a flame, and something tells me that it's no coincidence that Enya's name means fire, and she has the same birthmark behind her ear. Only the oldest and purest bloodlines still have marks from tribes and packs that their leaders inherited from their parents. Aros, I'm pretty sure she is his daughter. I think Enya is Blade's daughter." As the last words pass my lips, I can't help but feel a little excited. My mate could be the first human-werewolf hybrid to exist, fuck it- to survive the law the Council has imposed on us.
Aros stares off into the distance, as silent as ever. I give him a moment to gather his thoughts, put everything in place, and process everything I just dumped on his head. "Wait, are you telling me that Enya has a human mother and werewolf father, and they didn't kill her? What the fuck?" He jumps up to his feet and grabs the sides of his face, obviously shocked and frustrated.
"That's exactly what I'm saying." I grin like an idiot. While others might see the news as a big problem, I see the ray of light. Enya could be Blade's only heir, which means Angela and her runt of a mate will have to forget about the power they seek. Enya could take what's hers and find her mother if we are lucky. I hope Luna is still alive.
"Damn it! What if the Council finds out about this?" Aros whisper-yells at me.
The smirk on my lips widens as I take a step closer to him. "Oh, they will. I'll be the one to tell them. Don't worry, brother, if any of those old fucks even think about hurting her, I'll take care of them." I place a hand on his shoulder and add. "It's been a while since I last let Damien go on a full moon hunt."
