Chapter 94 ORACLE'S VISIONS
Edeline
He shook his head slightly, a look of disapproval flashing in his sharp features. "Edeline... I don’t know what you think—" he started, but I cut him off, casually crossing one leg over the other.
"Honestly, Uncle William, an oracle's visions are always incredibly accurate," I said, my voice steady as I watched his anxious eyes search mine for any sign of uncertainty. He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of stress, before taking a moment to compose himself and rising from his chair.
"Does anyone else agree with this?" he asked, his voice tinged with desperation.
I almost felt sorry for him, knowing the storm he was about to face. "It's just me... and the oracle I consulted, who is bound to secrecy."
I chose not to mention the possibility of Nixx being his son. If true, that could be why he hesitated to push for the Alpha test on Tatiana and Nixx—perhaps he feared uncovering something he wasn’t ready to face. I desperately hoped the test would happen. A strong, confident leader doesn't always need an equally strong partner, but a dominant figure usually seeks someone who matches their strength. It’s strange how things change—how someone’s heart can shift in an instant, especially with a baby on the way.
Her story had always been unusual, filled with the kind of mischief that made you question her motives. I had felt something recently, a strange sensation...
Alpha William shook his head, and I knew I had him. There would be no repercussions for me, and he now had a loophole to use when Alpha Conor arrived. Everything would be settled soon enough.
To be honest, after everything that had happened, I no longer wanted Percival.
But I did want to disrupt Tatiana’s life.
There was no other choice.
If I was wrong about her, it might expose my brother’s secret and create the kind of chaos that could lead him to become the future alpha. Tatiana would be left with a second child, and I’d be free to leave and carve out my own path.
A win-win, really.
Yet, the thought of the pain my mom would endure when the truth came out gnawed at me.
But then again, I couldn’t suppress the anger I felt toward her for betraying my dad. She would have to face the consequences...
The moon, in all her silent wisdom, was casting judgment on the lies that had woven themselves so deeply into our lives.
…
Edeline
Avoiding interference was supposed to be much simpler than the challenges I’ve faced over the past few days.
Wolves kept showing up at my house, congratulating me and pledging their loyalty. Everything felt so... uncomfortable.
I found myself sitting on my bed, the soft glow of the sunset casting the only light in the room. Spread out before me was a map of all the territories in the United States. I had a pen in my mouth, marking off the areas I knew were untamed. The places I was familiar with were dominated by powerful Alpha creatures.
To be honest, life is a breeze for us. Our Alpha has a relaxed demeanor, and we’re free to do whatever we want. But then there are places like Dark Moon, where individuals start their intense soldier training at the young age of five—betas and alphas alike. That’s definitely a place I’d avoid. Oh, and the omegas they have there? No thanks.
I marked Dark Moon with a big X, leaving me with twenty serene territories to explore. I was itching to embark on a new journey. One of those territories was Darius's uncle’s pack—the one he mentioned going to at some point. Once everything was resolved, I couldn’t wait to leave this place. Who cares about half a bond anyway? Once Percival’s skin touched Tatiana’s, it would fade away. It might hurt my spirit, but I was eager to experience it—to confirm its authenticity.
Just as I was lost in thought, a sudden “tick” sound snapped me back to reality. I scrunched my nose and glanced at the window, catching a tiny pebble bouncing off the glass. I hurried off the bed and rushed to the window, pushing it open to find Darius standing there with a grin, looking up at me.
“Hey, Edeline,” he said, his voice cheerful.
I let out a deep sigh, feeling a wave of disappointment. “Hey, D. How’s it going?”
He shifted his foot, idly playing with the dirt while keeping his hands behind his back. He looked passive. “Hey, would you mind coming down? I have a place in mind that I’d love to take you to,” he said, his eyes sparkling with hope.
I was about to tell him I had other commitments, but something about him intrigued me. Mirabelle’s comments had always seemed off to me, based on what I knew. I couldn’t shake the curiosity.
“Sure, I’ll be there in a moment,” I said with a smile.
I quickly threw on some jean shorts and an orange halter top, slipped into my sandals, and hurried downstairs. I left the map behind on my bed. I found Darius near the back of my house, close to the edge of the trees. His mischievous grin made me smile and a sense of relief washed over me. He looked like an old friend.
“Hey,” his voice had taken on a deeper tone since the change. Moving gracefully, he pulled me into a warm and comforting embrace. His nose brushed against my hair as he inhaled deeply. I thought I sensed some movement from him, but I brushed it off.
There was a nagging feeling in my mind that this all seemed oddly familiar...
“Um...” I cleared my throat, taking a small step back. “Where are we headed?”
A gentle smile appeared on his face, showing his friendly nature. “Let’s go. Stick with me. No need to worry about any wolves. We’ll take a different route.” I let him take my hand, feeling his firm grip as he guided me through the forest just across the street from my house.
