Chapter 235 CHALLENGE FOR THE ALPHA
William
The anger in the crowd surged. My wolf came to the fore, and I let out a fierce roar that silenced the clamor. “Percival will not be put on trial because he did nothing wrong!” I shouted. “Darius should have already been punished for his crimes, and Percival knew this. When Darius attempted to leave with Edeline, Percival, in a bid to protect her, attacked and killed him!”
The crowd erupted into confusion and chaos, their questions and doubts mingling with the roar of their reactions.
“I have been deceitful,” I continued, raising my voice to be heard over the tumult. “Darius was mentally ill and had committed horrific acts against women from other packs. Luna and I were aware of his condition but kept his true crimes hidden from all of you. Darius was obsessed with Edeline. None of us realized the full extent of his obsession until we uncovered his actions.”
I paused, letting my words sink in. “Darius had found his mate—Alpha Reynolds’s daughter. He discovered her in the woods near our pack’s boundary. In his twisted mind, he saw her as an obstacle. He raped, beat, and killed her. I only learned of his heinous acts the night he attacked Edeline. He was poisoned that night by Anita, which triggered his violent behavior.”
A wave of realization swept over Alpha Reynolds’s face, quickly followed by a surge of anger. The silence of the pack was thick, each member processing the gravity of my revelations.
“That night, we also discovered Alpha Reynolds’s daughter’s mutilated body,” I said, my voice trembling. “I tried to shield everyone from the full horror of what Darius had done. I wanted him to face a more peaceful death rather than the savage retribution he would have faced from the pack. But when he escaped and tried to flee with Edeline, Percival, knowing everything Darius had done, confronted him. Percival’s actions were justified.”
I turned to face Alpha Reynolds directly, his rage evident. “I am deeply sorry for what my son did to your daughter. It was an unimaginable crime, and I am profoundly sorry that you did not receive the justice you deserved. To everyone affected, I apologize for the secrecy and for any pain my actions may have caused. I should have been honest from the start, but... he was my son.”
I looked around at the angry faces in the crowd. “I am truly sorry for everything. I should have come forth sooner, but... he was my son.”
The scene erupted into chaos. Female wolves cried out in anguish, while the males roared in anger. The atmosphere was thick with rage and pain. My wolf could sense the growing tension, the chill in the air mirroring the intensity of the pack's emotions.
A man stepped forward, his voice laced with accusation. "You are to blame for all of this! And you are our Alpha? This is all your fault!"
Another voice joined in, sharper than a knife. "You drove Edeline away! You let your own son take the fall for his brother’s murder, even though he was justified. We’ve all been ready to challenge him, and you let us?”
Their words struck me like bullets, each sentence a direct hit to my heart. My hands trembled as I removed my pack, feeling the weight of their anger and disappointment.
A woman stepped forward, her voice breaking with emotion. "Tatiana still needs to be punished! You have lost all our respect!” Her words echoed the sentiments of many others who were visibly upset.
Another man’s voice cut through the cacophony. "You need to step down! You can’t handle the title!” The crowd roared in agreement, their displeasure unmistakable.
A female wolf shouted, “You still need to punish Tatiana! She’s no longer pregnant!” Her declaration was met with hundreds of growls of approval from the pack.
A male wolf added fuel to the fire. "We still have the right to challenge Percival! He pushed his mate away and tried to kill himself. He is weak! We no longer respect him!” The pack's roar of approval was deafening.
I could only stand there, overwhelmed by the torrent of accusations and demands. My mind was racing, but I needed to regain control.
A voice rang out with more cheers, "Nixx should be our Alpha!” The suggestion came with a chorus of approving howls.
Coming out of my daze, I stood tall, knowing that if I didn’t act decisively, the pack would tear itself apart. I bellowed, “SILENCE!!!” The roar of my command cut through the chaos, momentarily stilling the crowd. I might not be popular, but I was still their Alpha.
“I know you all want me to step down,” I continued, “but Nixx has yet to prove himself. He hasn’t shown that he can defeat me!”
Growls of disagreement rumbled through the pack. “I realize I have lost your respect due to my mistakes, but I am still your Alpha!” I declared, my voice firm despite the mounting pressure.
One by one, five wolves stepped forward, their intent clear. “We challenge you for the title of Alpha!” one of them shouted, his voice echoing with determination.
Alpha Reynolds watched with a mix of amusement and concern. I glanced at the wolf who had issued the challenge—perhaps twenty-eight years old, ten years my junior. I assessed him with a critical eye. He wouldn’t win this fight, but the challenge would test me.
The male wolf let his own wolf emerge, bones cracking and fabric ripping as his transformation took place. I allowed my wolf to come forth as well, the shift fierce and rapid. My wolf growled with authority, his teeth sharp as daggers, his body larger and more imposing than any of the challengers.
I leapt from the stage, landing gracefully and purposefully. With a low, menacing growl, I approached the challengers one by one, asserting dominance and reminding them where they belonged in the hierarchy of the pack.
...
Nixx
I was stunned into silence as I watched William's wolf in action. The Alpha wolf moved with a terrifying grace, asserting his dominance over each challenger with brutal efficiency. After a fierce struggle, he pinned one of the male wolves to the ground, his jaws clamped around the challenger’s neck. The challenger whimpered, his tail tucked submissively as he exposed his neck, blood staining the grass beneath them.
