Chapter 194 LAST GOODBYES
Edeline
One was for my folks.
Another was for Nixx.
There was one for Mirabelle as well.
Only those individuals deserved an explanation. Percival wouldn’t receive one. Oh, and Darius was coming along with me.
They all said pretty much the same thing.
I can’t stay here any longer. My wolf was becoming too powerful for me to handle. I had been looking at some pictures of my wolf. She really wanted to crush the pup between her jaws, and I was genuinely afraid of her desires. I couldn’t stick around because of the mess Percival had created. I was feeling really down. I just wanted to escape and live my life. Hey, just wanted to let you know that I’ll be taking some time for myself, so I might not be in touch as often. Take care!
I grabbed the letters, folded them casually, and slipped them into my purse along with my essentials. Normally, I don’t carry a purse, but tonight was an exception. I would need one for sure.
My bags were all packed and ready in my closet. I just needed to wrap up a few loose ends, and then I would be good to go.
As I made my way to the bathroom, a feeling of unease settled over me, as if something was off tonight.
...
After showering and changing, I chose a casual look: black leggings paired with a mid-thigh-length button-up shirt. I completed the outfit with black Uggs and piled my hair high on my head, just in case I needed to move quickly. Despite my nervousness, I managed to keep my lunch down. The constant nagging in my mind blended with a rush of excitement and jitters. I had a feeling this would be my final visit here.
Conor showed up while my parents were out for the day. He kindly offered to transport all my luggage in his truck, which saved me the trouble of hauling everything to his cabin later. It was a real time-saver. I still had a few things to take care of before we could leave.
Conor seemed to be in a good mood. He appeared pretty excited about me joining him. I got the sense that he was a bit lonely and perhaps saw a friend in me. It was strange how much I resembled his late mate, Tatiana’s mother. I appreciated his generosity in letting me stay at his place. This felt like my chance at happiness—a chance to become the person I had always wanted to be. I was eager to escape the pain and overwhelming sense of loneliness.
After Conor left with my bags in the back of his truck, he headed back to the cabin to gather his own things. I mentioned that I planned to visit Mirabelle and my brother at Doc’s before sorting out the Darius details. Conor considered saying goodbye to Tatiana but wasn’t sure if she would even want to see him. He thought he might take the opportunity before we departed.
As I made my way up the road to Doc’s, my nerves churned in my stomach. The cool autumn breeze brushed against my skin, chilling the warmth. I heard the satisfying crunch of leaves beneath my boots as the ground became increasingly covered with vibrant colors each passing day. It felt like everything was falling apart—just like my soul.
I wanted to catch up with Mirabelle and my brother one more time, but honestly, I wasn’t in the mood to see Percival.
As I turned the corner onto the dirt road, I hoped he would be unable to move so that I wouldn’t have to see him.
Approaching the clinic, I had a puzzled expression on my face. Alpha William was casually seated on the porch next to Luna Annabel. My mom and dad were embracing by the big oak tree in the yard, while Nixx was on the other side, chatting with Mirabelle.
What was going on here? I understood the whole Alpha and Luna thing, but why were my parents here?
“Edeline?” My mom called out, pulling away from my dad’s embrace. Her gentle expression softened as she walked over to me. “What brings you here? Are you here to see Percival?” Her eyes held a cautious glance.
I shook my head, unable to hide my disapproval. “Nah, I just came to see Nixx. What’s going on with everyone being here?”
“Nixx is going through a rough patch,” she explained, her voice carrying a hint of concern. “His wolf is acting up. Percival is all patched up, but he’s in the room with Tatiana, making sure she’s okay.” She pressed her lips together, her worry evident.
Rolling my eyes, I muttered, “Of course. Gotta have a chat with Nixx. BRB.” I gave her a small smile and headed towards Nixx, who was lounging by the window with Mirabelle in one of the rooms. They were chatting, and from the sound of it, I decided it wasn’t the best time to interrupt.
“Hey Mirabelle,” I said, stepping into the room, “I wanted to apologize for what happened. I was feeling pretty lonely at the time, and you’re such an amazing person. I—”
“No worries,” she interrupted, her face lighting up with a small smile as she glanced down at her heels. “There’s no need to apologize. I can never have a partner, just some fun. But I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me. It means a lot.” She grinned happily. “You know, being an Oracle is a pretty big deal, right?” Her grin widened.
Nixx sighed and pulled her into a warm embrace. “Thanks for being so chill about this. I really do hope we can still be friends. I genuinely mean it.”
Mirabelle’s expression shifted suddenly, her gaze growing distant. I could barely make out her changing emotions as she was held tightly in his arms. “Same here,” she whispered, moving back slightly to give him a glimpse of her radiant smile.
“Ahem,” I cleared my throat, trying to get their attention.
Both Nixx and Mirabelle glanced at me, clearly surprised. “Hey, Edeline?” they said in perfect unison.
