Chapter 147 WOLVES CLASH
Edeline
Annabel rolled her eyes, and a crowd formed around the two women, creating a large circle of spectators. Everyone watched as family secrets were aired publicly. "Yeah, I am concerned about it. I’m William’s friend, after all. And you’re just someone he got pregnant in a desperate attempt to find love, which ended up with your kid replacing my son!" Annabel’s voice was sharp with anger.
Mom’s eyes blazed with fury as tears welled up in response to Annabel’s harsh words. "You silly person!" Mom spat. "You rejected your true mate to steal your own cousin’s mate right after she died… Have you no shame? You were never meant to be a Luna! Nyra was! Not you!! You will never be Luna to me! Nyra will forever be my Luna. And William’s!" Mom’s voice reached a thunderous crescendo as she screamed.
Surprised gasps filled the air, and Annabel quickly glanced around, realizing that everyone was watching. The weight of the crowd’s gaze seemed to hit her all at once. Her emotions surged before she redirected her glare towards my mom, her crystal blue eyes darkening with a fierce intensity. Her wolf was clearly coming to the forefront.
Meanwhile, the fight between Dad’s and William’s wolves continued with unrelenting ferocity. Dad’s wolf, fueled by rage, unleashed a series of brutal growls as he launched attack after attack. However, Alpha William skillfully deflected each move. In a decisive moment, Alpha William’s teeth clamped down hard on Dad’s wolf’s neck. Clearly fed up, he threw Dad’s wolf to the ground. As Dad’s wolf struggled to break free, Alpha William let out low, menacing growls, biting deeper into the neck. The Beta wolf whined in submission, finally yielding as he angled his neck in defeat.
As we watched the scene unfold, Annabels could not take their eyes off of Mom. She had completely forgotten about their argument and was relieved to see Dad finally giving up the fight.
Suddenly, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye – a body hurtling towards us. I quickly turned my head to the left and saw Annabel launching herself at my unsuspecting mother. They collided with a resounding thud, crashing onto the ground.
I tried to hold back my reaction, but it was impossible not to be alarmed. Mom was clearly caught off guard. Her usual calm was shattered, and panic flashed across her face.
In a split second, my wolf took over. Without warning, I was tossed backward as I shifted. It was as if my wolf had a mind of its own, driven by an instinct to protect our mother. The powerful urge surged through me, and I could not control it.
Annabel’s arm was pulled back as she sat atop my mom, ready to deliver a punch to her face. Mom's head snapped back, her eyes blazing with anger, her canines extending. Before she could react, my wolf sprang into action. With a fierce snarl, we charged at Annabel, forcefully knocking her away from Mom. Annabel flew through the air, landing in a heap and rolling into a crowd of stunned pack members.
Annabel scrambled to her feet, pushing herself off the ground with her palms. Her eyes locked onto me, disbelief written all over her face. I heard a series of snapping sounds behind me and turned to see my mom shifting into her wolf form. My wolf, cautious but resolute, took a step forward. Her lip curled, revealing her sharp teeth as she let out a deep, menacing growl, her gaze steady on Annabel. We remained in place, silently daring her to make a move.
Suddenly, I felt a presence beside me. It was Mom’s wolf. With a playful nudge, Mom’s wolf pressed her cheek against mine for a brief moment before turning her attention back to Annabel. Our two wolves stood side by side, growling in unison, challenging Annabel to take action.
It was weak and dishonorable of Annabel to attack without warning. Her sneak attack had made her seem vulnerable, and she quickly realized that her pack members were looking at her with disgust and starting to distance themselves. This situation was far from ideal for her.
Out of nowhere, Percival’s wolf leaped over us and landed in front of his mom, who was still in her human form. He crouched down, facing our wolves with a growl that served as a clear warning. He was fiercely protecting his mother.
When our wolves made eye contact with Percival’s, there was an undeniable spark. Even though we were on opposite sides, we could feel the strain of the mate bond. My wolf let out a soft whimper, echoing the sound Percival’s wolf made. The connection between us caused a physical discomfort, a reminder of how deeply our bond affected us. It was impossible to harm your mate because of this bond, not in a physical sense anyway.
“Enough!” Alpha William’s commanding voice cut through the tension, causing our wolves to retreat, their heads lowered in submission.
“Shift!” he ordered firmly. Reluctantly, all three of our wolves complied, shifting back to their human forms as we returned to our original state.
Annabel scrambled to her feet from the ground, her face flushed with urgency. Mom, Percival, and I quickly wrapped ourselves in whatever we could find for cover. William tossed shirts and shorts toward us, barely giving us a moment to catch our breath. In a heartbeat, I jumped up and rushed to help Mom, my eyes scanning the area to figure out what was going on with William and Dad's wolves.
Dad lay on the ground in his wolf form, his body covered in blood from his wounds. He gave me a look that spoke volumes. Slowly, he turned and walked away into the woods, stubbornly refusing to shift back into his human form.
A tight knot formed in my chest as tears began to well up in my eyes. The sight of him, moving away so nonchalantly despite the evident pain, was almost more than I could bear. It was not just physical pain that he was suffering from—it was a deeper, more emotional hurt.
