Chapter 146 CHAOS ON THE BALCONY
Edeline
“You never told me!” Dad shouted, his voice filled with betrayal. “No way! All three of you!” His eyes were glazed over as he switched his gaze rapidly between William, Annabel, and Mom. His anger had reached a boiling point. He suddenly turned his head to the side, emitting a loud growl as his eyes took on a silver hue. His inner wolf was surfacing, though he remained in his human form.
Dad locked eyes with William, ready to face whatever came next.
William allowed his wolf to approach, showing his teeth and claws in a display that was both playful and challenging. “Hey, Jack, I don’t really want to get into a fight with you, but it seems like you’re provoking my wolf. How about we both calm down and have a conversation about this?”
A loud scream of frustration pierced the night. My dad shifted completely into his wolf form, the sound of bones cracking filling the air as fur erupted from his skin. The transformation was swift and brutal, leading to a massive wolf growling menacingly at William. We were terrified, our eyes wide with fear as we watched the scene unfold.
“Hey, you have to leave. Like, right now,” came the command, raw and authoritative, straight from the Alpha wolf.
We scrambled to leave the room, our steps hurried and frantic. As I watched, William pushed open the French doors leading to the balcony, revealing a set of stairs that descended into the backyard of the packhouse.
We raced down the stairs, our breaths coming in short, anxious bursts. The chaos of betrayal seemed to vanish as we burst through the back door, our hearts pounding with adrenaline. On the balcony, two massive wolves faced off, their bodies poised for attack. Their chests were low to the ground, hackles raised, and ears pinned back. My dad's wolf, with his piercing silver eyes, was in a frenzy, attacking Alpha William’s wolf, who was slightly larger and had dark fur.
In the midst of the chaos, I felt a hand slip into mine, sending a shiver through me. Percival’s warm grip offered a small comfort in this sea of turmoil. I accidentally bit my lip hard, but I managed to avoid flinching. Percival needed support, and I was the only one there to offer it. I reluctantly let him hold my hand as we watched the clash unfold with Nixx, Mom, and Luna Annabel, who threw my mom a disapproving side glance.
Where was Tatiana? I wondered. She must have already told Conor the news. I could almost see her trying to win back his favor, a ploy to sway him in her direction.
Dad’s wolf lunged forward, teeth bared and saliva flying. He collided with William’s wolf, who was slightly larger but unfazed. The Alpha wolf effortlessly tossed Dad’s wolf aside, sending him crashing onto the wooden balcony. With a menacing snarl, the Alpha loomed over him, ready to assert his dominance.
This fight was not just about anger; it was about letting off steam. Both Dad and William were reeling from the betrayal of the women in their lives, who had kept so much from them. It was a raw and primal confrontation.
Dad’s wolf sprang back to his paws, preparing for another assault. The Alpha wolf, noticing his stance, braced for the next move. As Dad’s wolf leaped into the air, the Alpha intercepted him mid-flight. The collision sent them crashing into the balcony railing. The wood splintered and gave way, and they tumbled down from the ten-foot platform, rolling onto the ground below. Wood shards scattered everywhere, adding to the chaos.
We all stepped back, creating a safe distance as other pack members began to approach. Their eyes were wide with astonishment, mouths agape as they watched their Alpha and Beta wolves in a fierce and primal battle.
“What’s happening?” a young wolf shouted, joining the chorus of voices filled with confusion and concern.
Both wolves scrambled to their feet, shaking off debris and fur. Dad’s wolf, relentless, caught Alpha off guard with a furious growl. He lunged at William, clamping his teeth down hard on the Alpha wolf’s neck. The Alpha howled in pain, bucking wildly in an attempt to assert his dominance over the Beta wolf.
"This is all your fault," Annabel said, her voice dripping with disdain as she glared at my mom. I tightened my grip on Percival’s hand, trying to keep my inner wolf in check. Annabel had no idea about the history between my mom and William. She wasn’t part of their lives back then. My initial judgment seemed hasty now, especially given how little I knew.
"My bad?" Mom looked at her, puzzled, as the growls from the ongoing fight grew louder. More pack members began to gather around us, their faces a mix of shock and curiosity as they watched the confrontation unfold.
"Yeah!" Annabel snapped. "If you had been loyal to your partner, my son wouldn’t have to deal with not being the top priority anymore!"
That was incredibly frustrating to hear.
Percival gripped my hand tightly, his gaze fixed on the side of my face. I winced under his intense stare before he finally let go and stepped back. His features were hard, frustration etched into every line. I felt a wave of empathy for him.
It was becoming clear that Percival was grappling with the realization that his future Alpha position was now compromised—by my brother, his stepbrother. In his eyes, this was my mom’s fault. Typical male perspective, blaming the nearest source of frustration.
Percival shot Nixx a glare filled with pure animosity, his once bright blue eyes now darkened with anger.
"You weren’t part of our lives! You don’t even know what happened, Annabel!" Mom’s voice cracked as she yelled, drawing puzzled looks from the pack members around us.
"That’s Luna to you!" Annabel snapped, jabbing her finger at her chest with a forceful motion.
Mom’s chest rumbled with indignation as she swatted Annabel’s finger away. "You’re just so focused on your son becoming Alpha. That’s all that matters to you!" Her words were charged with anger.
