Chapter 141 REVELATION OF AGONY
Edeline
The weight of the revelation was palpable, and I could see the shock on everyone’s faces. The room was steeped in a heavy silence as the truth sank in.
"I never knew the history of this woman," I thought to myself, trying to process the gravity of Tatiana’s words.
Tatiana’s voice trembled as she continued, "The letter said she didn’t want to leave me with someone like you, but she grew to care for me. Your ongoing relationships with other women only deepened her depression. That’s why she took her own life when I was just a baby..." Her tears flowed freely now, her voice breaking as she kept her gaze fixed on the ground, unable to meet anyone’s eyes.
The room was thick with emotion, the tension nearly unbearable as Conor absorbed the devastating truth.
Conor’s eyes were distant, as if he was lost in a memory, a feeling of profound connection gripping him. The anger and betrayal were palpable, but so was a lingering sadness, a reflection of something deeply personal.
"The letter also mentioned that no one other than Ben knew the truth—not even Anita, her own sister. It said that since I was a new shifter, I would eventually find my true mate, who wouldn’t be an Alpha, and that you would discover I wasn’t really yours," Tatiana continued, her voice trembling. "She begged me to leave with whoever my mate was, to escape from you, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. After reading the letter, it took me days to process it all. That’s when I went to Ben, not knowing what to do with such shocking information. Mom painted you as cruel and heartless, but you had always spoiled me, treated me like a princess. When I showed the letter to Ben, he cried. He confirmed it was true and told me I couldn’t tell anyone. He had watched me grow up and always wanted me to know him, but Mom didn’t want me to find out until I could shift. She made Ben promise never to reveal the truth until I read her letter. I was confused, feeling betrayed, but Anita had always treated me more like a daughter than anyone else I knew. I trusted her." She glanced up at Anita, who was staring back at her with deep sadness in her eyes.
"Go ahead," Conor said, his tone surprisingly gentle.
Hope flickered in Tatiana’s eyes. "So, I showed Anita the letter. She wanted to talk to Ben. After their conversation, Anita came back and told me that we couldn’t leave. She said my true mate could be any type of wolf, even a low rank, and that our lives wouldn’t be decent anymore. With her dark past, no pack would accept her. It was only a matter of luck that these wolves didn’t recognize her black irises. Anita warned that once you found out I wasn’t yours due to a possible mating with a lesser wolf, you would have her killed, as well as Ben and me." Her gaze met Conor’s, seeing the mixture of sadness and betrayal on his face. It was clear that this revelation was deeply painful for him, and the agony of discovering his partner’s betrayal was evident. Despite her words, I couldn’t help but feel that Conor deserved more than a partner who had deceived him so grievously.
The room fell silent, the only sound being Anita’s muffled cries beneath the tape.
All eyes shifted to Ben, who was groaning on the floor, slowly coming back to consciousness. His eyes fluttered open, and he surveyed the room with confusion and fear.
"Um, hey Alpha... I hope you’re not planning on hurting him, right? I mean, I’m still your little pup, aren’t I? Please..." Tatiana pleaded, her eyes wide with desperation.
Conor remained seated, his imposing figure making the chair seem small and insignificant. He stood up slowly, his expression thoughtful and conflicted.
Ben struggled to his feet, his voice rough from the ordeal. "Hey, what’s going on?" he rasped, trying to steady himself.
Tatiana offered him an apologetic glance, her lips pressed together in regret.
“So, Beta Ben…” Conor slowly turned to face him. “Your daughter just told me the whole story of how she came to be. She spoke about your betrayal to your Alpha… and your lover’s betrayal to her Alpha. You have slept around with my own mate… and now you are involved with her sister?” He threw his head back, laughing with a derisive edge.
Ben and Anita… Oh? Oh!
Ben was taken aback when he saw Tatiana. “No… Tatiana, why!?” The shock and devastation in his voice were unmistakable.
Tatiana shot him a look of disapproval. “To spare your life. Daddy… I mean… Alpha agreed to spare your life if I told him.” Her voice was charged with anger, as if she had been reprimanded like a child.
Ben shook his head, a touch of sadness in his expression. “You innocent young woman…”
Without warning, Conor abruptly turned his body towards the table, trying to regain his composure. In a swift motion, he stood up and turned with such speed that Ben had no chance to react. Conor’s claws swept backward, inadvertently slashing the neck of his beta.
Ben’s eyes widened in shock. Blood gushed from his neck, splattering against the walls and creating a gruesome scene. His flesh was torn, exposing his insides as blood sprayed onto the ceiling and the table. The wolves nearby recoiled as Ben collapsed.
A collective gasp of horror filled the room as Ben fell to the ground. His eyes grew vacant, his spirit departing to join the moon.
“No!” Tatiana cried out, dropping to her knees and crawling towards the lifeless body of her father. Tears streamed down her face. “You said you would! You said!” She shouted at Conor, her eyes reflecting deep betrayal.
Conor grinned, bending down to meet her gaze. “I never made any commitments. You inquired, but I never made any promises.”
He nonchalantly stepped away from the chaos against the wall, setting up his chair with a casual air before sitting down. His eyes scanned each wolf with an indifferent expression, as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. His clothes were stained with blood, the crimson fluid dripping from him. His demeanor was calm and composed.
