Silvy
After I left Goof I did exactly as he said. Not because he told me to but because a bubble bath sounded like an incredible idea. And it was. I must have soaked for thirty minutes before I was ready for a nap. I sleep for about three hours before I got up and tidied up the house a little bit. After that, I sat down on the couch with my laptop looking over nursery ideas. I want it done by the time I’m in my eighth month. So the clock is ticking. I had it narrowed it down to two gender-neutral designs. An underwater marine theme and a zoo animals theme. That Goof found me when he came by for dinner.
He came in and found me going back and forth between computer windows trying to figure out which one I liked the best. How did Goof get in without me letting him in you ask? Easy, he has a key. I had copies made and gave them to him about a month ago when I figured out he was going to be sticking around. At least for the time being so I figured he should have a key. And Goof doesn’t abuse the fact that he has it. Goof sat the food, Chinese takeout, on the table and asked if I needed help. I patted the seat next to me for him to sit down so I can show him.
Goof sits beside me and throws his arm around my shoulder. I turn my laptop towards him and point to the first option. The underwater theme. Then I switch tabs to show him the zoo animals. I lay my head on his shoulder and say “ I can’t decide which one I want to use.” “ Well, we could talk it out to see what you like about each one and see if you like one more than the other. Or we could flip a coin.” Goof says.
I gently jab him in the ribs with my elbow. “ We can’t leave this up to a coin. This must be on the walls for the first five years of our child’s life, at least. I want to create a fun and pleasant look.” I said. “ Okay, babe. Sorry. So tell me what you like about the underwater one.” Goof said. I told him I found it calming, and all the different fish made it colorful. Although it could make the room a little dark with all the blue. “ Now tell me what you like about the other one,” I told him it was bright and cheerful. I liked that it had a variety of animals. But then again so did the marine one.
“ Well, you could think about it for a few more days. You could point to one at random. Or You could do both.” Goof said. I tilt my head up so I could look at him. “ What do you mean?” I asked. “ You take half the room, like where you are going to put the changing table and dresser and do the zoo animal one. That way the baby starts the day looking at that. And on the other side where you are going to put the crib use the marine so the baby can sleep underwater to dream of riding dolphins.” Goof said.
I loved it. I gave him a quick kiss on the jaw and said “ It is perfect. Should I go ahead and order the stuff to do it?” Goof shakes his head “ No, dinner first. Then I'm going to call Merigold and get her advice on what to buy.” That made perfect sense. If anyone is going to know about paint and stencils, stuff like that it was Merigold. After I agree Goof digs through the bags he brought. He places each carton on the table telling what it is. He brought all of my favorites. Sesame chicken, pork fried rice, cheese wontons, steamed dumplings and egg rolls.
I’m getting close to being convinced there isn’t a thing about me that this man doesn’t know. To be honest it is a little scary. If I didn’t trust him so much it would bother me. Well, bother me more. He could crush my heart easily if I let him completely in. And I’m close to doing just that. I’m just not there yet. But back to dinner. Instead of getting out plates and forks, Goof grabs plastic forks. After he got us both a glass of tea we ate by passing the containers to each other. Or in the case of a wonton Goof fed me.
Every day he does something like this it causes my guard to go down a little more. To some, it looked like a casual dinner but it was more than that. It was different. Intimate. We talked. Baby names, how are week was looking like, when we were going to look for a crib and other furniture for the baby’s room. The only thing we didn’t talk about was his church meeting. I know better. Trust me this time I wanted to. I know Goof told his brothers the truth as to what is going on between us. Or at least his version of it. Goof has no way of knowing each day I was seeing him more than a friend. Dangerous territory.
When we were done, Goof threw everything away for me. I noticed the second bag wasn’t touched. When I asked about it Goof told me that it was extra for me to take for lunch tomorrow. See, super sweet. We got comfortable on the couch. Meaning Goof sat up and I lay my head across his lap on my slide. Goof carefully ran his fingers through my hair while he called Merigold for advice. Goof ended up having to put the phone on speaker so I could hear. I
Instead of just telling me what I needed Merigold insisted she come over tomorrow to look at the room and what I wanted. Depending on what my walls were made of would make a difference in the paint I used. Glad we called her. I could have used stuff that wasn’t going to stick to the wall. I have to work tomorrow so Goof agreed to meet Marigold here and show her around. That is another reason I adore those girls. They are always willing to help out a friend in need. Even if it is just for painting tips.
Goof stayed the night. Again. And we made love twice. I want to say we fucked but what we did was anything but. I don’t think there is a spot on my body that Goof didn’t have his lips or tongue on. I could say the same thing about my lips on Goof’s body. I know I mapped out his chest and abs with my tongue. And we went slow. Nothing hurried about it. I was relaxing, tired and oh-so satisfied when we were done.
Now I’m at work in the ER again. I really don’t want to be here. I don’t mind the work. I love it. I just don’t want to be in the ER anymore or paired with Megan. It has been an easy shift so far. And I don’t have to work late tonight so that is an improvement. I’m in the staff room unpacking the large lunch Goof was adamant he pack for me. I hear a laugh and look up and see Gena walking in. She points to the table “ Looks like someone wanted to make sure you ate.” I laugh “ Yeah, Goof. But I think he went overboard. Are you hungry? I have plenty as you can see.” Pointing at the six containers on it.
“ I could eat,” Gena said as she sits down across from me. Luckily the break room we keep a stock of paper plates and plastic cutlery so I grab some for both of us. I sit back down and begin to open the containers. I begin filling my plate and tell Gena to dig in. After our plates are full And begin eating I ask “ So what brings you to my neck of the woods?” Unless she has a patient down here, which I know she doesn’t, there is no reason for her to be here. Gena finishes chewing and says “ One is I wanted to check on you. Well, your dad did. He found out we were working the same hours today.” I laughed because that sounds just like my dad.
“ The other is I have a favor to ask,” Gena said. I nod for her to continue while I eat. “ You know your dad in me just wants a small wedding. A few friends.” Gena said. I do know this. They said they didn’t need to make a big deal and show off for people just because they loved each other. “ Well, I don’t have any family or close friends so I was wondering if you would be my maid of honor?” Gena asked. “ Really? You don’t have someone closer you could ask?” I asked. I know she said she didn’t have any close friends but there has to be someone closer than me.
“ I’m not saying I won’t do it. But we hardly know each other. We just now have become friends.” I said. “ Truthfully, between work and raising Xavier I didn’t make the time for close friendships.” I can understand that. Raising a child on your own is not easy but I was prepared to do it so I get where she is coming from. “ Sure, I would love to help you,” I said. I watch Gena sag in her chair. She was worried about this. “ Silvy, thank you so much.” She said. “ Has Dad picked a best man yet?” I asked. Gena laughs “ He chose Xavier. That kid is so excited.” “ I can imagine he is. How are the plans going?” I asked.
“ Well, I have my dress. I need to get you a dress. I have your dad’s and Xavier’s suits. We are having it at the house then a small reception in the backyard. So everything is all set for that. Your dad wanted to barbeque but I convinced him to have it catered. We are using the diner for that. I just need to find a justice of the peace and our license.” Gena said. “ Can you not find one or just haven’t done it?” I asked. “ I can’t find one local that will come to the house,” Gena said. I tap my finger on the table thinking of a way to help. Then it dawns on me. “ I might know someone who could help,” I said.
I then explain to her how Viper got certified to do weddings because he wanted to help out Merigold. Then he continued to do it for all the girls. “ Do you trust him?” Gena asked. “ As much as I trust my dad. He is a good man.” I told her. “ Let me ask you this. If it was your wedding would you have him do it?” Gena asked. I think about all the weddings I have gone to that he has done and smile “ Yeah, I would.” “ Do you think he would do it?” Gena asked. “ It won’t hurt to ask. I’ll call him after work and find out.”
