Chapter 240 Isabella's Stone Is Real
Casey took the stone and looked at it, his face showing some surprise.
This was a stone that had already been cut open, and the cut surface showed pure emerald green.
Casey asked Everett, "Is this your emerald?"
He hadn't expected Everett to also have an emerald on hand. Although it was only palm-sized, this stone was still quite valuable.
Everett asked back, "You think it's an emerald?"
Casey looked again and was very certain. "Of course it's an emerald. Do you even need to ask?"
People around them also gathered to look. "That's right, this is an emerald!"
Everyone agreed it was an emerald.
But just then, Everett suddenly snatched the stone from Casey's hand and smashed it hard onto the ground.
The action was so fast that Casey didn't even have time to react. By the time he did, the stone had already been smashed to pieces by Everett.
Casey was completely stunned and even a bit angry. "Everett! What are you doing? It was a perfectly good gemstone, why did you smash it!"
But Everett just smiled slightly and pointed at the stone fragments on the ground. "Now take another look. Is this still an emerald?"
Hearing this, Casey looked at the ground with doubt.
The entire stone had been smashed into pieces, with debris scattered everywhere.
When Casey saw these fragments clearly, his expression changed completely.
"This... why is it like this?"
The debris on the ground looked like glass, not gemstone material at all.
Everett picked up a small piece of debris from the ground and pointed at the cracked surface. "See it clearly now? This isn't a gemstone at all."
Casey naturally saw it clearly too. This indeed wasn't a gemstone. A gemstone would never look like this after being smashed.
He was a bit confused, and more than that, in disbelief. "How can this be? It looked exactly like an emerald, so realistic. How could it not be a gemstone?"
Everett explained, "This is a material synthesized using a new technology. Its texture is very close to gemstones, and the color can be made one hundred percent realistic too."
"This kind of stone only started appearing on the market recently. Some people are using them to pretend they're gemstones and making money in the rough stone market. What I just smashed was a fake stone made from this synthetic material!"
As soon as he said this, the whole place erupted.
"This is actually a fake stone!"
"What? I couldn't tell at all!"
"What kind of method is this? It's so realistic."
"..."
Everett said with a serious expression, "I don't know what technology was used, but there are already quite a few stones like this on the market now. Everyone needs to be careful when identifying them, and make sure you don't get scammed."
Everett walked over to the hundred-pound stone and observed it carefully several times, then said to Casey, "Your stone is also a fake."
Casey still didn't want to believe it. "How can that be? That's impossible... It's absolutely impossible. Such a big stone, how could it be fake..."
"Whether it's fake or not, we'll know once we check it with an instrument."
"To prevent everyone from being scammed, the Veridian government recently developed a machine that can detect this new synthetic material. If the machine's probe touches this material, it will make a sound."
"I happen to have a detector at my place. If you don't believe it, I'll test it for you and you'll know."
After saying this, Everett went back to his shop to get the instrument.
Soon, Everett returned with the detector.
Under everyone's nervous gaze, Everett touched the stone with the detector's probe, and the next second, the instrument made a sound.
In contrast, when Everett touched other stones with the instrument, the detector didn't make any sound.
This instrument was specifically designed to give warnings about this new synthetic material, so there was no doubt that Casey's stone was fake.
Casey's face immediately darkened.
Just then, Cade suddenly exclaimed, "Come look! Come look! Your stone has revealed an emerald!"
With Cade's shout, everyone present finally noticed Cade, who had been quietly cutting stones all along.
Earlier, everyone's attention had been focused on Casey's "emerald," so no one was watching when Cade was cutting stones.
But Cade didn't mind. Although he had really wanted to go over and look at that "emerald" too, he still had a pile of stones to cut, so he could only quietly work at his station cutting stones.
Each of the previous ones had turned out to be good stuff, and Cade had gradually gotten used to it. He just wanted to finish the task quickly and cut all these stones. Sure enough, the later stones all turned out well too.
The last one was a large stone weighing about 100 pounds.
Because his habit when cutting stones was to start with the small ones and save the big ones for last.
So the last stone was the biggest.
But when he cut open this final stone, he almost doubted his own eyes.
He rubbed his eyes and after confirming repeatedly, he found that the color really looked like emerald!
That's why he cried out in surprise.
Everyone crowded over.
Casey glanced at it and found it really was emerald green.
But after what just happened, he looked disdainful and snorted coldly, "Looks like this is also a fake stone!"
How could there be so many emeralds?
Isabella's stone must be fake too, just like his!
He didn't believe at all that Isabella could produce an emerald.
You have to know, emeralds are extremely rare. Besides, Isabella's stone also looked like it weighed 100 pounds. He didn't believe that such a large emerald could fall into Isabella's lap. That would be too fake.
People around were also talking among themselves.
"This stone should also be fake. Emeralds aren't that easy to find. And now they're finding emeralds one after another? Too fake."
"Scammers nowadays are too bold, actually faking to this degree."
"Looks like we really need to be careful when buying stones from now on."
"..."
While everyone was discussing heatedly, Everett's voice came from the crowd:
"This one isn't fake. This one is a real emerald!"
Everett had dealt with many such fake stones and had long reached the point where he could tell real from fake at a glance. Otherwise, he wouldn't have said earlier that Casey's wasn't an emerald.
He directly pressed the instrument against Isabella's emerald, and sure enough, the instrument didn't sound an alarm.
Everett was overjoyed. "That's right! This isn't a fake stone, this is a real emerald!"
Everyone present was stunned.
"What?"
"This one is actually... real?"
This nearly 100-pound emerald was actually real!
Casey was also shocked. He hadn't expected that Isabella not only produced a bunch of top-quality gemstones, but also produced the king of gemstones—an emerald!
Cade was the most excited. "Hahaha! Great! I never thought that in my lifetime, I'd personally cut open an emerald! And such a big one!"
He hugged the stone tightly. "Quick, help me take a photo with it. I want to hang the picture above my bed!"
Casey looked at Isabella's genuine emerald, then at his own fake stone, completely dumbfounded.
How could this happen?
Isabella's stone was actually real, and only his was fake.
How the hell did Isabella do it?
The onlookers looked at the pile of colorful gemstones Isabella had produced, full of envy.
"Amazing! This is the most satisfying stone-cutting scene I've ever seen! Every single one is a top-quality gemstone!"
"Can you take me as your student and teach me some of your experience?"
"Congratulations! Being able to produce an emerald is one in a million!"
"..."
Amid everyone's praise and congratulations, suddenly a series of orderly and urgent footsteps approached.
A group of armed Veridian police officers burst into the shop.
The lead officer looked at Isabella with a serious expression.
"You're suspected of forging nationality and disrupting the market! You need to come with us!"
