Chapter 50
“So what if you are her father? Her own mother never trusted you enough to leave you with their guardianship. Martin is Scarlet’s guardian,” the man said, stunning everyone.
Scarlet never heard of it, so she looked at her aunt, who was also at Oscar's. The Jenkins glanced at each other as they always thought that they were the ones who knew of it.
“Did you think that you were the ones who knew? Aunt told me the last time we visited her. She told me that in case something happens, I should reveal who was left to take care of Scarlet. However, we never expected that you would throw them right after her mother died,” Oscar said, making Scarlet lower her head so that no one could see the coldness in her eyes.
The Whites had really planned everything. They knew that with Martin’s backing, she would soon get the shares in their hands. To prevent that from happening, what better way than helping the Jenkins hide traces of where they were? Her heart felt cold. Her mother never trusted her godparents, but their son caused her to believe that he loved her aunt.
However, she had overestimated human nature. Who knows whether the man had gotten close to her aunt cause he had been instructed by his parents? How long had it been since Oscar took over the family business? He had a chance to look for them so that he could help them out of his love for her aunt, but he never did anything!
What she hated were those kinds of people the most. She felt that the Jenkins were more pleased to the eye as their plans are written all over their faces and don’t pretend. If she and her aunt were to live with the White family, would they even know when they died?
“I will call Martin immediately and hear what he thinks. I am sure he will approve of us leaving with the two. He will take them from us,” Mr White said as his eyes lit up as thinking that it was a good opportunity.
This didn’t escape Sophia’s eyes, making her stare at the man falling into deep thoughts. When she looked at Scarlet and saw that she had lowered her head, she diverted her gaze as she waited for Scarlet to say something, as she knew that she won’t let any of them have their way.
Also, if they were to go to the capital, what would happen to their plans and businesses?
“No need. I will stay with my father. I believe that he wasn’t the one who sent those men after us,” Scarlet said in a low tone, but everyone heard her.
“Scar, don’t worry. Uncle will investigate everything. Aren’t those men in my uncle’s men’s hands? We will find the truth soon,” Angela said as she held Scarlet’s hands. Though she didn’t understand why Scarlet refused to leave with her godparents.
However, when she recalled how her maternal family was, she stopped thinking of convincing her to go with them. Shed will ask her later about her plans and will do anything to help her. She had taken a lot of money through Scarlet, and the only thing she could do was help her.
Mr Jenkins and John felt like they had been hit by lightning. Though they wanted to kill those men, they couldn’t as they didn’t know where they were.
“Hello, I am Angela’s uncle’s personal bodyguard. I was handed their security to. Sorry, I didn’t manage to protect them well, and they were hurt. Luckily, we got all those men and have been sent to our base. The boss has instructed that till we know the truth, the two miss should live at the Coles,” Felix said when he walked in.
Angela and Scarlet looked at him with a frown as they didn’t understand what he was up to.
“That won’t do. My daughter has already stated that she will live with her father,” Mr Jenkins said, making Felix look at him coldly.
“What happened today not only put your daughter and sister-in-law in danger but also our young miss. The boss has stated that this is what the Jenkins owes us. If you refuse, we will leave everything to the capital police to investigate. After all, our boss is not a resident of your city and will have his own people to supervise everything. Mr Jenkins, please, the decision carefully,” Felix said coldly, making Mr Jenkins drenched in sweat.
He had a feeling that the Coles already knew that they were the ones. He was afraid that after Scarlet left with them, they would attack them. How then could he let Scarlet leave?
“That’s not possible. My daughter will stay here with us!” he said stubbornly.
“I heard that Mr Martin, the international designer, is Miss Jenkins' guardian. Luckily, he will be arriving in the city at two in the afternoon. Sir has already sent someone to pick him up and bring him here. With him present, and as Miss Jenkins' guardian, he will decide for her on where to leave. Mr Jenkins, it is not up to you,” Felix said as they had investigated everything.
When he heard Martin’s name in the car, he sent a message to the boss for him to investigate. Never thought it would come in handy.
Both the Jenkins and the Whites were stunned as they never thought that things would reach this point.
“Mr Jenkins, you'd better make a decision soon before he arrives. After all, the man has been displeased with you chasing the two ladies out. Upon his arrival, do you think he will listen to you?” Felix said, making Mr Jenkins' face crack.
They had been keeping an eye on the airport’s report so that they could know when Martin booked a ticket. They never expected to be caught off guard. They never expected the man to come when the Whites were here, too, thus they lowered their guard. They knew too well what would happen if Martin came.
“If you allow Miss Jenkins to live at the Coles mansion, she will eventually return to the Jenkins mansion, but if she leaves with Martin, she will never. Do you want to make your decision now?” Felix asked once more.
This had been proposed by Mrs Cole, who had already arrived and was watching outside.
Mr Jenkins glanced at his son, then at his wife as he felt conflicted. He didn’t know how long Scarlet would be leaving with the Coles.
“Scarlet only?” Mrs Jenkins said as she eyed Sophia, stunning Sophia. Her behavior made her suspicious of something.
“My aunt will always be with me. I can’t live without her. Please don’t separate us,” Scarlet said as she panicked, stunning everyone apart from Sophia, Angela, and Felix, who had talked about acting outside.
“The two of them. We still aren’t sure who the men were after, so the two will leave with me,” Felix said as there was no way he was going to leave the young lady.
Hearing this, the Jenkins felt troubled.
“I didn’t take my inheritance after reaching eighteen. Can I still take them?” Sophia asked without looking at anyone, but Scarlet knew that her aunt wanted to see the Jenkins' reaction as she was suspicious. She was also suspicious when she heard Mrs Jenkins question.
“Of course,” Mrs Jenkins said happily as all of their eyes lit up, thinking that they had forgotten such an important detail.
“I am afraid not. My young master has reached out to Martin. He said that your sister had stated that if you reached twenty years without taking everything, they would be donated to charity and some to the museum,” Felix said, making everyone look at him.
“Actually, even those in your hands will be taken away soon. Your sister had stated your properties, thus, everything doesn’t belong to you. So please refrain from gifting anyone anything as they don’t belong to you,” he said, and he saw the disappointment in the Jenkins' eyes. Just as he averted his gaze, he saw the same thing in Oscar’s eyes, stunning him.
“It’s okay. I am grateful for being alive and having my niece by my side,” Sophia said with a smile on her face, making Ann and her mother angry as they thought that she was showing off that she really didn’t care about the properties. Unlike those who regarded those properties highly.
“Mr Jenkins, have you now made your decision?”
