Chapter 37
“Aren’t you afraid that your father will guard against you?” Sophia asked as they walked out of the company.
“He has always been guarded against us, even when we were little, Aunt. There isn’t any difference. However, have you received any invitation?” Scarlet asked.
She hadn't intended to ask about that, but since her father had handed them the invitation cards, she knew they shouldn’t use them. Her stepmother had given her an invitation card in her previous life. When she showed up, she had been told that it was fake. That was her first humiliation that day. She had to call Ann so that she could come for her.
When she saw the invitation cards, though they weren’t given to her by her stepmother, she was already on guard.
At the same time, if they showed up at the event with Mrs Davis, her father would get angrier and even start suspecting that they were looking for her mother’s friends.
“We left in the morning, remember?” Sophia asked, making Scarlet frown.
The Nelson family matriarch was Sophia’s biggest fan. She was also one of the admins in Sophia’s fan club. This was her event; how could she not invite her idol? In the previous banquet, she stated that she initially thought that Sophia was back with her, thus she sent the invitation card to Sophia. Not the Jenkins invitation card, but a personal card.
Ann had used that invitation card, making everyone believe that she was so close to her aunt. By doing this, she got close to the Nelson family. So how could Scarlet let her succeed this time?
Scarlet frowned for a while before she chuckled as she understood what was going on.
“Call the mansion. Say that someone called you and asked whether you received an invitation card, ask whether it has arrived,” Scarlet asked, making Sophia look at her puzzled.
“Are you sure? Also, why do I feel that you have been so mysterious these days?” Sophia asked stunning Scarlet.
“I am just asking, as you are a famous designer who is back. Most of the families who have been present since we were young want to show off that they are close to you. Though the Jenkins aren’t the same as they were, most people view you as you and not as a member of the Jenkins family. Also, your Weibo post has already shown people that you aren’t getting along with them,” Scarlet explained calmly as she didn’t want her aunt to see anything wrong with her.
Sophia stared at her for a while before taking out her phone and doing as Scarlet instructed.
“Hello, Jenkins mansion,” the person on the other end said.
“Butler, have I received any parcel?” Sophia asked when she recognized the voice of the other party.
The man was stunned and looked at his madam, who was seated with Ann, not far from where he was. He seemed bothered and hesitant.
“Madam, Miss Sophia is on the phone,” he said, opting to give the boss the phone to deal with Sophia instead of him getting caught in the middle.
Hearing his words, Mrs Jenkins and Ann glanced at each other before frowning. However, she still took the phone that was handed to her.
“Hello, what is it?” she asked coldly, as she didn’t have a good impression of the two. Since they came back, there has been nothing but chaos.
“I have received a call that there is an invitation card that was sent to the mansion for me. Do you have it?” Sophia asked coldly, the opposite of how she had told the butler.
Mrs Jenkins was stunned before looking at her daughter, who was filled with anger.
“What invitation card? We haven’t received any parcel today. The person who called you lied,” Mrs Jenkins said coldly, making Scarlet look at Sophia suspiciously.
Scarlet shook her head at her aunt. “Okay,” Sophia said.
“Scarlet, you heard her, right?” she asked, making Scarlet sigh.
“Aunt, let them be. The truth will be revealed. We will go with Mrs Davis,” Scarlet said with a grin on her face.
She didn’t want to cause any trouble at today’s party, but since Ann and her mother were sending themselves to her willingly, how could she disappoint them? She felt a rush of excitement running in her veins.
“Let’s go and see the studio,” Scarlet said when she saw that it was already 4 pm.
They both minded their manners when they were in the taxi. Sophia was looking at how Lydia and Ann counterattacked. When she saw that Lydia claimed that she had indeed taught Sophia before she left, Sophia chuckled darkly as she understood that the woman thought that she was easy to fool.
“Scarlet, do you think that if we were to ask for the CCTV footage from years back when I used to go to the company, would your father agree to it?” she asked, making Scarlet halt what she was doing.
“No. You are looking for proof to show that Lydiah isn’t your teacher. By doing this, won’t it be the same as revealing that Ann was also lying and was in the wrong? She will lose a lot of fans and the Jenkins stock might go down,” Scarlet said, making Sophia restless as she realized why they could behave so fearlessly.
“Ann, let them floss a little bit that way, won’t there be traffic on that topic? I will try finding ways to make them pay. For now, open your studio without any worries,” Scarlet said, making her aunt’s restlessness fade.
She didn’t even understand why she felt so reassured by whatever Scarlet said these days.
“Scarlet, didn’t the two of you go to look for a studio? How come you both changed your minds?” Savannah asked as she ran towards them when she saw them getting out of the car.
Scarlet, who had just gotten out, was struck. It wasn’t because of Samantha’s words or how she ran to them, but cause of the people behind her. Seeing Scarlet looking at the two, Samantha took her arm and pulled her to the girls.
“Scar, these two are my friends whom we grew up with. This is Angela, and she is Brooke. Girls, this is Scarlet,” Samantha introduced them.
“Hello,” Scarlet greeted them with a polite smile.
“You look familiar,” Angela said with a frown on her face as she stared at Scarlet so hard, trying to remember where she had seen the latter.
“We met yesterday,” Scarlet said, stunning the latter.
“You. Your skin was so dark. How, how...” Angela asked as she eyed Scarlet from head to toe. After Scarlet reminded her, she immediately knew who Scarlet was.
“Some spa. Got back my skin,” Scarlet said with a smile.
“Hello, girls,” Sophia greeted them with a smile before turning to Samantha.
“Samantha, where is your mother?” she asked.
“She is in with the manager. Aunt, you can go in. We are behind you,” Samantha said, making Sophia nod at Scarlet before she walked away.
“How is she, pretty right?” Samantha said after Scarlet walked away.
“Her hair is also pure black and long. It seemed that when you were created, it took hours,” Brooke said, making Scarlet chuckle.
She recognized Brooke. She was the Nelson young miss. She had seen her at the banquet in her past life, but they weren’t familiar with each other.
“Thank you for your compliment,” Scarlet said.
“I’m just lucky that it isn’t my birthday today, but my grandpa’s. If you snatched my timelight, I would have been pissed off. But since it isn’t, you have to shine today,” Brooke said excitedly.
“Okay, okay. Scarlet, do you have a gown to wear?” Angela asked as she felt that she was the only one who was behaving maturely.
“They are at home,” Scarlet said simply, but the three girls understood what she was trying to say.
“We were just about to go for styling. Why don’t you accompany us? They have a lot of gowns and you can choose one to wear,” Brooke said, making Scarlet look bothered. They had just met, so she was afraid of overstepping.
“You worry too much. You are coming with us,” Angela said as she smirked.
She initially didn’t have enough cash to use on gowns, but with Scarlet present, what did she have to be afraid of? To her, Scarlet was her savior.
“But we are here to buy a studio and an apartment,” Scarlet said, making the girls glance at each other.
Before Scarlet could understand what was going on, both of her hands were pulled forward. They ran to the building, dragging Scarlet with them.
“Mom, have you and Aunty chosen the studio?” Samantha asked.
“No, we were waiting for you guys,” Mrs Davis said with a smile.
“Let me tell you. Pick the floors on top. That way, you can see the view from up there,” Brooke said, making Sophia chuckle.
“Then let’s go and see the tenth floor, or should we look at the fifteenth?” Angela asked, making Scarlet dumbfounded. However, she thought it was better if it were the top floor, as the other shop owners won’t walk on their territory.
“What about the top floor? That way, we can come here to enjoy the view when we want?” Scarlet said, stunning the three girls, while the two adults were just smiling as they watched their interaction.
“Perfect. Let’s go quick,” Samantha said as she ran towards the elevator.
Seeing her mother and Sophia walking slowly, Samantha frowned. “Mom, we want to finish, go look at the apartment, then go to the styling studio,” Samantha said.
“Where is it?” Scarlet asked curiously.
“Mall,” Brooke said, stunning Scarlet. She had met Samantha in the evening, so it was this hour. She panicked as she didn’t want to see Ann and her group. What if an argument broke?
However, she really couldn’t say anything about not going, as she would make them feel as if she didn't want to be their friend. She just hoped that by the time they got there, Ann and her friends would have already left, as they would be taking an hour or two choosing a studio and an apartment.
