Chapter 36
“Yes. You know of that company?” the driver asked in an excited tone.
“Heard of it,” Scarlet said, making Sophia look at her puzzled. How come Scarlet had heard of it while they were always together?
Scarlet recalled that company from her past life. The company’s partner embezzled a huge amount of money, but it wasn’t known as the finance manager was his person. When constructing a school, the building collapsed. After the investigation, it was discovered that all materials were of poor quality.
Cause the partner was the one in charge of that project, the CEO never followed up on it too much. Who knew that the project would cause the company’s stock to decrease? They had cases in court, and the person who caused all that had run away.
It had been six months since that incident happened, but the person had not yet been found. Scarlet recalled that he would be found three months later. Her eyes furrowed as she thought of something. She recalled where it was said the man had been found.
After his arrest, all of his properties were seized, and all the money he owed the company was returned to the company, but they had a lot of debts. After paying the debts with the money, not much was left. It was like they were starting all over again.
What impressed Scarlet was that more than half of the workers returned to work for that company. When they were asked, they said that their boss was kindhearted. He treated his workers as his family. Scarlet wanted such a person.
She had been thinking of who to approach, but now that she was reminded of that company, she would approach the man. If she was not wrong, the man would be present at today’s banquet. This only made Scarlet determined to attend the party.
She initially wanted to cancel it, go home, and find ways to earn more money, but this mission was equally important as earning money.
“What’s your brother-in-law’s name?” Scarlet asked as she was curious. The driver was an honest person. If it had been another person who had been paid the full amount and told to wait, he won’t have, he would have run away, thinking that he was lucky, but this driver didn’t earn Scarlet’s respect. She wondered whether his brother-in-law was as honest as he was.
“Martin, Martin Smith,” the driver answered, and Scarlet nodded.
She didn’t ask any other questions after that. She took out her phone and started scrolling through the stocks page. She wanted to see whether she would earn some money with the stock exchange, as she recalled some top companies and those that would rise.
After an hour, they were in front of the Jenkins Group.
“Thank you,” Scarlet said as she walked out. She was wearing a casual outfit. Blue baggy jeans, a sky blue tee-shirt, and white sneakers. However, one could tell that they were from a famous brand as their designs were uncommon.
“Hello, how may I help you?” the receptionist said.
Scarlet dialed her father’s contact as she knew that they might not get past here without his instructions.
“Hello, we are here to see Mr Jenkins,” Sophia answered the receptionist.
“Do you have an appointment?” the receptionist asked while Scarlet’s phone call was connected.
“Dad, we are here. Can you send someone to come for us?” Scarlet asked. Mr Jenkins replied before Scarlet hung up the call.
“Naah,” Scarlet said before turning around and sitting on the couch that was nearby.
“Second miss, Miss Singh,” Mr Jenkins' secretary greeted them after walking out of the elevator and walking towards Scarlet.
He had been working at the company even before Scarlet and Sophia were chased out, thus recognizing them wasn’t an issue.
Hearing how he addressed them, the employees around looked over curiously while the receptionist sighed in relief. However, she felt that Scarlet was much more easygoing than Ann.
“Hello,” Scarlet said as she stood up.
“Your father is waiting for you in his office,” the secretary said, making Scarlet nod her head. “Also, these were made in the morning. Every time you come here, use this. They were made according to the master’s instructions.”
Scarlet took the two name tags, looked at them, and handed Sophia hers before they walked towards the elevator.
“Is that the second miss?” an employee asked curiously.
“Yes, she is the legitimate daughter. The lady with her is Sophie, the designer who has been trending recently,” her colleague responded.
“She is so pretty. Her skin is as white as jade; it looks soft. Her hair is pure black,” another employee said.
“Late madam’s hair was just like hers. Pure black and long. Her skin was also white. She took over her mother. If I had such a beautiful daughter, I would dote on her so much.”
“Wasn’t it said that they had been living in the countryside? They don’t look like people who came from the countryside to me,” someone said suspiciously.
There were a lot of discussions.
When Scarlet walked into her father’s office, Mr Jenkins was stunned when he saw her.
“Both of you look good. Your skin's color is back,” he said, and Scarlet hummed before walking towards the water dispenser and pouring herself a glass of water.
“You should tell the secretary to serve you,” he said when he saw Scarlet’s actions, as he felt that his daughter should be served.
“No need. They are all busy. Such a small thing, I can do it by myself,” Scarlet replied, and her father let her be.
“Sophia, here are the documents. Go through them and tell me what you want to be correct or whether it is fine,” he said as he gave Sophia some documents.
Scarlet was drinking water while scrolling through her phone.
After ten minutes, Sophia placed the documents on Scarlet’s lap, getting her attention. Scarlet lifted her head. She didn’t say anything, just switched off her phone, took the documents, and started reading them.
She found that her memory had improved, and she could read everything fast and still not forget what she had read. This surprised her greatly, and she was happy. She felt that reading won’t be difficult for her when she went to school. Though she had always been a fast learner, she felt that with this capability, she won’t have any issues in the future.
“Why does it state that if anything happens to Sophia, the brand will automatically become Jenkins Group?” Scarlet asked with a frown as she looked at her father and his secretary, who were stunned.
The secretary never thought that she would see any faults with it, as she was young, and also, they had hidden everything well.
“Dad, this belongs to Aunt, even if something happens to her in the future, that’s her business on how she wants it to be. We agreed on giving Aunt what belongs to her, not scheming,” Scarlet said, making her father’s eyes darken as he was displeased with how she was talking to him.
“I don’t know what happened. I just told them to make a contract,” Mr Jenkins said, washing his hands of that matter.
He really didn’t know what was written there. John was the one who prepared the document together with his secretary. He had asked John whether there was anything wrong, and he said there wasn’t anything wrong with the document. At this moment, he knew what his son was plotting and was displeased, as now, it seemed as if he was the one who was refusing to hand over the brand.
Scarlet looked at the secretary coldly before continuing to read.
“Can you help me with a pen?” she asked her father after two minutes. The man gave Sophia a blue pen, which she handed to Scarlet.
Scarlet cancelled what she didn’t like and added what she felt was necessary.
“Go make corrections as I have written,” she said coldly as she handed the secretary the papers. “Also, don’t take me for a fool. I might be young, but not stupid. Don’t add any tricks there. Five minutes.”
The secretary nodded as he hurriedly left. He went to John’s office but didn’t find him, making him sigh. He walked out and went to do as he had been told. He knew that his boss was angry as he had trusted them on that matter and didn’t want to displease him more.
Mr Jenkins stared at Scarlet, who was on her phone, and fell into deep thought. He wondered when those two months would be up so that he could get rid of her. Having such a sharp and talented person was a huge risk. She might not be interested in the company now, but what about the future? However, he soon sighed in relief when he recalled their words. In those two months, there won’t be any problem as the latter was uninterested in the company affairs.
“There is a banquet today. I received the invitation cards. Take these two with you. Be ready by seven. I will send someone to pick you up,” Mr Jenkins said, making Scarlet sneer inwardly as she lifted her head to look at him.
