Chapter 109
“What you guys could tell I could also. I already planned to send the lawyer to cancel the engagement. We are to meet her in there,” Shane said as he glanced at the hotel in front of them.
He had just parked the car when Scarlet received the call.
Old Mr Singh had the topic and sighed. Other than Scarlet, Shane was the one who resembled his daughter’s character more. One could say that he was her biological son. Maybe it was because he had been adopted by her since he was an infant.
“Okay, tell him to tell the lawyer to go as soon as possible. We need the Walkers to fly away as soon as possible,” Old Mr Singh said.
“Gramps, chillax. Travelling by car to country Y is six hours by jet, so it will surely be an hour. Just tell Martin to tell his assistant that he can continue with what he was doing. If they won’t leave after the news of the engagement cancellation, the assistant should show up then,” Scarlet said.
“Okay, you guys take care of yourselves,” Old Mr Singh said.
“Okay, bye,” Scarlet said and hung up the call.
“Shane was also planning on cancelling the engagement today. They are meeting with the lawyer to hand over the engagement token,” Old Mr Singh told them.
“That boy is always sharp. Why isn’t he my son?” Mr Singh said, feeling depressed, causing his brothers to chuckle and others shake their heads. It wasn’t the first time they had heard him say that, and they were already used to it.
“Is there anything else to be discussed?” Second Mr Singh said as he wanted to leave to go and tell his wife of the news.
“Not now, you can all leave,” Old Mr Singh said, dismissing them. “If we aren’t going to the Wilsons to offer a marriage alliance, then let Martin’s assistant go talk about the collaboration with them. He can go over to Country Y to terminate the collaboration with the Walkers and also get a new contract.”
“But dad, what the Walkers said, it is true. What if the Wilsons also refuse cause of that reason?” Third Mr Singh asked worriedly.
“Have you forgotten that your sister was supposed to launch her brand on Monday? They will launch it, but her workers will be the ones working. So the Wilsons won’t just be working with Martin’s company but also with Sophia. It should make it up, right? Also, after six months, I want Scarlet to take the company back into her father’s hands. It didn’t belong to that man in the first place, so it should go back to the rightful owners,” Old Mr Singh replied.
“Scarlet in the designing industry?” Fourth Mr Singh asked, staring at his father in disbelief.
“She is also talented in it. However, I think it will end up in Sophia’s hands in the future, so won’t the Wilsons have a lot of clients at once?” Old Mr Singh asked.
“Dad, Scarlet is proud. She and Sophia might sell the shares, letting it fall into another person’s hands and open their own company,” Second Mr Singh said, but his eldest brother shook his head.
“That’s where you are wrong. If they do that, they would just gain a competitor. It is better to take it as a branch in Country A. After all, I am sure that Scarlet is aiming at Country A’s capital city, so having that company as City F’s branch isn’t wrong,” Mr Singh said, and his father nodded in agreement.
“We will support them in whatever they want,” Old Mr Singh said, and the brothers nodded.
“You got what you are supposed to do, right?” Shane asked the lawyer.
“It has been a while since I saw you, and you can’t even greet me first?” the female lawyer asked as she rolled her eyes, but Shane didn’t pay her attention.
“Godmother,” Shane called her.
“Scarlet, don’t be like your brother. He is so cold to even me. It hasn’t even visited me for years, what kind of a son is he?” the female lawyer said as she looked at Scarlet, seeming to be complaining to her.
“I know you. I have seen you in mom’s pictures,” Scarlet said as she remembered who the woman was.
She was one of her mother’s trusted friends. If there was someone Mom trusted was her. Her family was also from America and was wealthy. In the past, they were richer than the Singhs, but now…
It wasn’t a surprise that her mother had trusted her with such a thing.
“At least I am not a total stranger,” the woman said with a broad smile on her face.
“Auntie,” Arthur greeted the woman as he knew her. She had always visited their home when his aunt was still living in America. They were always together.
“I know you want to talk to Scarlet and all, but it is an emergency. The Walkers are at home terminating business collaboration with Martin. Grandpa wants the engagement to be cancelled before the cooperation,” Shane said, interrupting the woman just as she was about to speak.
She turned her attention to Shane, and her expression changed upon hearing his words.
She sneered and asked coldly, “They were the ones who offered the alliance that time, but now they dare look down on the family?”
The people present glanced at each other, as they had always thought that Shanaya was the one who proposed it. However, the lady didn’t have any reason to lie as she had been with her during that time.
“At that time, the Wilson's boy was the one your mother had targeted. However, she never met with the Wilsons; something happened on the way, and the Walker kid helped Shanaya. Shanaya felt that he wasn’t that bad and helped the family to solve the family business crisis they were facing. Upon hearing that she had a sister, the Walkers wanted to tie your mother with them as they saw her worth. Shanaya believed taht they would treat Sophia well cause they knew what she was capable of and she was their family's savior,” she explained.
“During these past years, Shanaya hasn’t shown up, and the Walkers have become restless and thought that whatever happened in the past was just their dreams. The engagement token in their hands is what made them know it wasn’t. They have been searching for your mother in the past years, especially when they are facing a crisis, but since the Sawyer young miss showed up and started helping them, they have stopped what they planned. Instead, they have been searching for her so that they can cancel the engagement. It is a good thing that you guys are willing to cancel the engagement,” she said with a sigh of relief.
“Then why didn’t you show up and tell him sooner?” Shane asked, causing the woman to roll her eyes at him.
“How can I cancel it when the party involved hasn’t seen everything for herself? Whatever, I urged you to cancel it under the family’s name, then when Sophia came to know, she started blaming me, claiming that I was the reason she didn’t get married to the man?” she asked, and they all fell silent, agreeing that her decision was the best.
“Can you go and cancel it as soon as possible? I promise after coming back, I will visit you,” Scarlet said as she knew what the woman wanted.
“Deal. I will take my leave immediately,” she said as she took her handbag. “Luckily, I came here by jet so I will use it. In an hour, I will be at the Walkers' premises. Wait for them to rush back.”
With that, she left the room.
“She is so weird,” Cate said after she left, and Sophia nodded her head.
Arthur chuckled and said, “She had always been mischievous just like Liam. I remember every time she visited her aunt at home, Grandpa would have a headache afterwards. However, everyone was happy with her there.”
Shane remained silent, but one could see the softness in his eyes. After Shanaya left the country, his godmother was the one who always made sure he didn’t feel lonely or miss his mother. She was his second mother. However, he kept his distance since his mother’s death, as he had been searching for Scarlet and Sophia. Also, he had discovered something about what happened more than eighteen years ago, the reason for his mother’s departure, and had always blamed the woman.
Now seeing her once again after many years, he recalled how she had always been there for him and his siblings and felt that he was stupid to blame her. She had just been doing it for her best friend’s sake. Also, if their mother never blamed her and still trusted her with many things, why should he blame him? He wanted to make it up.
Scarlet stared at him, feeling that there was something wrong, but didn’t ask what was bothering him. Cate glanced at him and fell silent. Though they had not lived together for long, she knew her husband. Something must have happened in the past for him to avoid his godmother, and he was currently regretting it. However, she didn’t say anything; she felt that they could have that taken care of in the evening.
“We just came out after taking breakfast, are we really going to sit down? Shouldn’t we go on with the journey?” Arthur asked, suddenly making all of them turn to him, then glanced at the menu that was on the table.
