Chapter 67 This Money Was Given By Dad, Right?
"I'm not going!"
John said angrily, sitting down on the sofa. "If she wants to go back, let her go. She can come back when she figures things out!"
"You bastard, are you trying to make me die of anger!"
Rosalind pounded the table furiously. "Everyone's so stubborn! You don't want to save this marriage, do you!"
"Mom, don't get angry, don't get angry. Everyone's upset right now. Even if John goes after Willow, if the problem isn't solved, they'll still be mad at each other."
Seeing Henry speak up, Rosalind glanced at him and said, "Since you're saying the problem isn't solved, Henry, why don't you come up with a solution?"
Rosalind's words made Henry scratch his head. Family matters were tricky to handle.
Henry couldn't think of a solution right away, but seeing Rosalind still waiting for him, he had to give Maria a look, signaling her to step in and smooth things over.
Maria kept a straight face. Just when Henry was about to crack, she slowly spoke up. "Mom, there's something I didn't want to mention, but after thinking it over, I should tell you. Otherwise, if there's trouble later, you'll be mad at Helena and me."
As soon as Maria started talking, Henry felt something was wrong. He quickly tried to stop her. "Mom just got back and is already worried about John's situation. Don't bother her with small matters."
Maria glanced coldly at Henry. "I didn't know when Helena's problems became small matters."
Rosalind was getting annoyed by their bickering and said directly, "Enough, stop arguing. Just say what you need to say."
Seeing Rosalind speak up, Maria pulled me over to her side. "Mom, at the hotel today, Helena kindly tried to help Natasha, but Natasha had nowhere to vent her anger, so she took it out on Helena. Look at these bruises she left."
Maria rolled up my sleeve, revealing a large bruise on my arm.
"Natasha did this? That can't be right?"
Looking at the injury, Rosalind found it hard to believe.
Seeing Rosalind still defending Natasha at this point, Maria got angry. "There were plenty of guests there. If you think I'm lying, I'll call the witnesses right now."
"No need, no need. Look at you getting all worked up."
Rosalind quickly waved her hand, then looked down at the bruise on my arm again. "Helena, how is it? Does it still hurt?"
I shook my head. "It doesn't hurt now, but it really hurt at the time."
"Poor thing. Don't worry, I'll make sure to stand up for you this time. I'll make Natasha apologize to you later."
Seeing Rosalind trying to brush off the matter with just a casual apology, Maria got even angrier.
Her hand holding mine trembled slightly. I knew she felt sorry for me.
I patted Maria's hand comfortingly, then looked up with an innocent expression. "I don't understand why Natasha would do this to me when she was angry. I've been thinking about it - I've never done anything to offend Natasha."
"People's hearts are hard to read. Thank goodness Natasha didn't have a knife or something, otherwise I would've been the first one to get hurt."
"I've been thinking about it, and I'm really scared, so I've made a decision - I'll avoid being alone with Natasha from now on, and she's not welcome in our home either."
Hearing my words, Rosalind frowned. "Helena, that's not right. No matter what, Natasha is still your cousin. How can you hold such a grudge against her?"
I touched my wound, looking sad. "But when she did this to me, why didn't she remember we were cousins?"
As soon as I said that, Rosalind froze for a moment.
"Mom, Helena is my treasure. She's not some orphan to be pushed around. Today Natasha did this to her - what about next time? Will she point a knife at her?"
"For Helena's safety, Natasha should stay away from us from now on!"
Seeing Maria being unusually firm, Rosalind backed down.
"Fine, fine. Since you put it that way, you can handle it yourselves. I'm old, and whatever I say, nobody wants to listen anyway."
"Forget it, forget it. You all go back. Handle your own problems. I'm not getting involved anymore."
Hearing Rosalind's words, John quickly signaled to Serenity. Serenity hurried to say to Rosalind, "Goodbye, Grandma."
Rosalind's eyelids drooped, and she didn't even look up, letting John leave with Serenity.
"Let's go too."
Maria said, pulling me along to leave.
Henry followed behind. When we got outside, Serenity was nowhere to be seen, but John was waiting alone by the car.
"John, do you need something?"
Hearing Henry ask, John quickly said, "I wanted to ask Helena for a favor."
"Me?"
I stepped forward and looked at John. "Uncle John, just tell me what you need."
"Helena, you're such a good kid. I want to ask you to take Serenity out, buy her some nice jewelry and clothes. You know, Serenity doesn't have many friends, so I can only ask you."
Serenity poked her head out from the car, looking at me with round eyes. "Dad, it's not necessary. I have clothes to wear. We don't need to spend that money."
"What do you know? Money is meant to be spent! Take what I give you and spend it!"
John took out his phone and transferred a million dollars to me. "Helena, I'll take Serenity to the hospital first. If the doctor says she can be discharged, please take her shopping. Use the money I gave you - buy her whatever she wants, don't worry about the price."
Looking at the million dollars that appeared in my phone, the cold smile on my lips didn't fade.
This million dollars was probably from the living expenses Henry gave John. He spent it on Serenity without batting an eye. How ironic.
Maybe this was a good chance to convince Henry to stop transferring money to John's family.
Thinking of this, a smile appeared on my lips. "Uncle John, don't worry. I'll definitely take good care of Serenity."
"Good, Helena. I'm counting on you. I'll go ahead now."
John got in the car, and the driver quickly drove away.
Back in our car, Maria couldn't help saying, "John sure treats his illegitimate daughter well - spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on clothes without thinking twice."
I played with my phone in my hand, deliberately saying to Henry, "If I'm not wrong, the money Uncle John is spending is what you gave him, right, Dad?"
