Chapter 51: Calliope, Do You Want to Listen to the Recording?
I noticed her movement, and the instant she raised her hand, I quickly pulled the woman named Juno over and pulled her in front of me.
Juno let out a scream as the red wine in the white-dressed woman's hand splashed directly onto her.
"Mary, are you crazy?"
After her shriek, Juno yelled at Mary.
"Juno, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
Mary said as she hurriedly grabbed some wet wipes and started helping Juno clean up.
Juno angrily snatched the wipes away and pressed them against her face. She turned around and glared at me viciously, "You bitch, how dare you use me as a shield! Do you want to die?"
With that, she raised her hand to hit me. I lifted my arm and gripped her wrist tightly, saying coldly, "Weren't you the ones who started it? If you're not good enough, who else can you blame?"
"Let go, let go!"
Juno struggled a few times but couldn't break free.
Are you kidding? If she could break free that easily, all my years of working out would have been for nothing.
"What's going on here?"
Calliope, who had been watching our side, quickly walked over. Seeing me, she frowned, "Ms. Lockwood, right? What's happening here?"
Looking at Calliope's condescending manner, I immediately understood. I was the unwelcome one.
I suddenly released my grip, and Juno stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.
She clutched her arm and complained tearfully to Calliope, "Mom, look at this woman! She's so arrogant, she actually tried to hit me."
Calliope glanced at her with displeasure and said quietly, "Shut up. I'll deal with you later!"
After saying that, Calliope turned to look at me with an indescribably haughty attitude.
"Ms. Lockwood, you're a distinguished guest brought by Mr. Pemberton, and we should treat you with courtesy, but what you did was inappropriate, wasn't it?"
"You're right, it was inappropriate."
I brushed off my palms with disgust and said, "I should have let her throw it, then returned the favor."
Hearing my words, Calliope's expression immediately turned colder.
She stared at me coldly, "Ms. Lockwood, I'm hosting important guests tonight. Are you trying to ruin my dinner party?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Knox, who had heard the commotion, rushed over.
Seeing the scene before him, he looked quite shocked and quickly said to me, "Helena, what's going on?"
I looked up at Knox with cold eyes and said, "Knox, is this why you wanted me to come? Did you bring me here to be humiliated?"
"No, no Helena, let me explain."
I had been looking for an excuse to leave, and Juno and Calliope had actually done me a big favor.
I thought about how, when Joseph arrived, Knox would definitely ask me to help make introductions, and I immediately felt like I had swallowed something disgusting.
I sneered inwardly and decided to make a big scene out of this opportunity.
I wanted to see who Knox would choose between this Juno and me.
"If it's not humiliation, then what is it? Do you know that this Juno has been after you for ages, yet you still brought me to this place and left me alone? Do you know that if I hadn't been quick, I would have been the one splashed with wine?"
Seeing me expose the affair between Juno and Knox, everyone present changed their expressions.
Knox obviously hadn't expected that I, who had always been obedient and compliant, would be so relentless today.
He quickly tried to explain, "Helena, I didn't mean that."
As soon as I finished speaking, Juno grabbed Knox and said to him sharply, "Knox, who is this woman? She's so arrogant! I'm calling someone to throw her out right now."
"Throw me out? Fine! You don't need to throw me out. I'm leaving now. And let me tell you, I'm Knox's fiancée!"
With that, I headed straight for the door.
Seeing this, Knox was stunned.
He was about to chase after me when Juno grabbed him, "Knox, this woman is actually your fiancée? Why would you bring your fiancée to the party? What do you mean by this?"
I ignored the endless bickering behind me and walked quickly toward the exit.
Just as I reached the entrance to the hall, a group of people walked in, and the person surrounded by everyone was none other than Joseph.
Seeing this, I thought "oh no," but before I could react, Joseph spotted me first. He raised his hand and waved at me, "Ms. Lockwood, what a coincidence running into you here!"
"Mr. Davis, what a coincidence indeed. Unfortunately, the people here don't welcome me and want to kick me out, so I have to leave." With that, I was about to go.
Joseph looked surprised and stopped me, "What's going on?"
At that moment, Calliope, Knox, and their group caught up. Seeing this scene, Calliope's face changed.
She quickly extended her hand to Joseph, "Welcome, welcome, Mr. Davis, please come in."
Joseph waved his hand, "No need. This Ms. Lockwood is my friend, but I heard her say she's not welcome here. I'm very curious to know what happened."
At these words, Calliope's expression immediately soured.
She quickly tried to explain, "It's just a joke between the kids, Mr. Davis. Please don't take it to heart."
"I don't know what kind of joke involves your people raising glasses of wine against a guest."
As soon as I finished speaking, Knox quickly said, "Helena, stop talking."
"I'm not the one in the wrong, so why can't I speak?"
I looked at Calliope firmly and said, "Or are you saying, Calliope, that you always use the method of throwing wine to drive away your distinguished guests?"
"Ms. Lockwood must be mistaken."
Faced with my forceful questioning, Calliope calmly brushed her hair back with a casual air, "No one here has ever said anything about making Ms. Lockwood leave."
As expected from someone who had seen big occasions - even when I pressed her like this, she remained so composed.
But too bad for her, I wasn't going to let her stay composed.
I pulled out my phone and waved it, "I have a recording. Would you like to hear it, Calliope?"
