Chapter 240 Breakup
Chapter 240 Breakup
Just as I expected, Nancy was quite skeptical about my identity, but the moment she heard I could help her get Atlas, she immediately gave in.
After arranging everything, I just sat back and waited for tomorrow's entertainment headlines.
Sure enough, early the next morning when I opened my phone, an entertainment gossip article popped up right away.
In bold black text it read: "Atlas Has a New Flame, What Will Become of Helena?"
There was also a huge photo attached, showing Atlas holding a woman in his arms. The woman had short hair, clearly not Helena, because Helena had long hair.
The woman in the photo was wearing a men's white shirt, exposing large areas of skin on her shoulders, nestled in Atlas's arms with only half her face visible in profile. I recognized Nancy immediately.
Seeing this, a slight smile crept across my lips. I didn't expect things to go so smoothly - I really overestimated Atlas.
Next up was to go comfort Helena.
With this thought, I leisurely got out of bed, and after washing up, had the driver take me to the office.
When I arrived, Helena wasn't there yet.
I waited until almost noon, but still no sign of Helena. You have to understand, Helena was a workaholic who never showed up late or left early.
Now not only was I getting anxious, but other employees were talking amongst themselves too.
Some said Helena was crying at home over her broken heart, others wondered if she went to confront Atlas.
Just as everyone was speculating, Helena appeared, but what surprised me was that Atlas was right behind her.
What was going on? Hadn't they broken up yet?
While I was puzzled, Helena went straight to her office door and opened it. After she went in, she slammed the door shut hard.
Atlas outside nearly got hit by the door. He reached out and knocked, "Helena, can you open the door and let me explain? This is really a misunderstanding!"
"Atlas, it's over between us. If you don't leave, I'm calling security!"
Hearing Helena's voice from inside, Atlas's face showed a hint of dejection.
Looks like they really had broken up. Seeing things progressing step by step according to my plan, I was secretly delighted.
But I still went forward, pretending to be concerned, "Mr. Lancaster, what happened? Did you and Helena have a fight?"
A flash of dejection crossed Atlas's face. He turned to glance at Helena's office, then shook his head at me, "She wants to break up with me."
"How could this happen?"
I acted surprised, though inside I was thrilled.
Atlas shook his head and sighed. After a long while, he said hesitantly, "I told her it was a misunderstanding, but she won't believe me. If a couple doesn't even have this basic level of trust, what kind of boyfriend and girlfriend are they?"
He patted my shoulder, "Alright, if she wants to break up, then we'll break up. I'm leaving."
They really broke up?
From his dejected tone, it didn't seem fake. I was overjoyed inside, but kept a worried expression on my face, "Mr. Lancaster, are you really breaking up with Helena just like that?"
"I don't want to, but she insists on breaking up. What can I do?"
Atlas said, his tone carrying some anger, "I'm the CEO of a publicly traded company after all. I can't accommodate her in everything, can I? She wants to break up? Fine, I'll give her what she wants!"
After saying this, he turned and strode away.
After he left, York came over and asked, "What happened? Did they have a fight?"
I shook my head, "They broke up?"
"No way?"
York shook his head after speaking, "But you can't really blame Ms. Lockwood. Mr. Lancaster was messing around with someone else and got photographed. Never mind Ms. Lockwood - nobody could put up with that!"
"You also think Ms. Lockwood really broke up with Mr. Lancaster?"
Seeing me ask this, York looked puzzled, "Why would you keep a man like that around?"
Hearing his words, I finally felt relieved.
York was right. Given Helena's personality, she definitely wouldn't forgive Atlas. My plan had finally worked.
But I still wasn't quite convinced they'd really broken up.
When it was time to leave work that evening, I deliberately waited until everyone else had left the office before knocking on Helena's office door.
"Come in!"
When I entered, I saw Helena's face looked terrible, and her makeup seemed to have been reapplied - it wasn't hard to tell she'd been crying.
I got straight to the point, "Helena, did you really break up with Mr. Lancaster?"
A flash of anger crossed Helena's face, "You already know?"
I nodded, "We were all there when Mr. Lancaster left earlier."
Helena forced a smile, "Well, you're not an outsider, so I'll tell you what happened."
At this point, she said angrily, "You saw this morning's entertainment news, right? I never expected Atlas would cheat on me. He actually hooked up with that childhood friend of his, and reporters caught them!"
After she finished, I deliberately said in surprise, "Could this be a misunderstanding? Helena, I think Mr. Lancaster really loves you. Maybe there's some other explanation?"
"There's no misunderstanding at all. He already admitted it himself - he was with Nancy last night!"
Helena got angrier as she spoke, "He admitted it. How could I possibly forgive him?"
Hearing this, I was secretly thrilled - Nancy did well this time.
Though I was delighted inside, I pretended to be concerned, "Helena, maybe Mr. Lancaster just made a mistake in the moment?"
As soon as I said this, Helena's resentful eyes glared at me, "How can you keep taking his side? Are you my family or his?"
I quickly put on an apologetic smile, "Of course I'm your family, but I just can't bear to see you two break up like this when things were going so well."
"If you're my family, then you should be on my side. Tell me, wasn't Atlas wrong this time?"
Seeing her angry, I quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, he was wrong!"
"So would I not be able to find a boyfriend if I left him?"
At this question, I quickly shook my head. Are you kidding? With Helena's status, plus her outstanding looks, how could she not find a boyfriend?
"Helena, you're beautiful and capable, with a great family background. How could you not find a boyfriend?"
"Exactly! If I leave him, there'll be other boyfriends. So why would I have to have him?"
After Helena finished speaking, seeing I wanted to persuade her more, she raised her hand to stop me, "Alright, stop trying to convince me. Don't mention him in front of me anymore. I'll just pretend I never knew him!"
Seeing Helena was serious, I finally felt at ease.
Looks like this time they really had completely broken up. But their relationship was just like that - when things were good, they loved each other desperately, but I only used a small trick and they broke up directly. This thing called love really can't stand the test.
A cold smile played at the corners of my lips.
Now it was time for my plan to be put into action.
