Chapter 24 Entering the Company
I said unhurriedly, "I was planning to let you have the stuff after Natasha returned it."
"But now it looks like you don't need my small change anymore. After Natasha sends the things back, I'll just keep them myself."
As soon as I said this, Knox's face blushed.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot—that was exactly what this situation was.
His expression looked unpleasant, but he still wanted to speak up for Natasha. "Helena, are you really going to make Natasha return everything?"
I nodded. "If she doesn't return the stuff, paying me back works too."
"Helena, why have you become so money-minded?"
"If you act like this and people find out, who knows what they'll say about you!"
At Knox's words, my eyes turned cold.
"Knox, what do you mean by that? I'm money-minded for wanting my own things back?"
I let out a cold laugh. "By your logic, I deserve to be scammed out of everything, right?"
Seeing me get angry, Knox said gently, "Helena, that's not what I meant."
"Then what did you mean? Are you saying that in your heart, I don't even compare to Natasha?"
Watching me seriously question him, Knox's eyes showed a moment of panic.
"That's not true, Helena, don't overthink it."
"You're the only one in my heart, no one compares to you. I'm saying all this for your sake—I don't want outsiders to misunderstand you."
"I knew you had me in your heart. But I don't care what outsiders say."
Seeing my insistence, Knox was completely out of options.
Watching him sit there restlessly, I knew he must be thinking about discussing countermeasures with Natasha.
I immediately said considerately, "I'm full. Take me home."
"Okay."
As soon as I finished speaking, Knox stood up eagerly.
The car stopped at my front door. I'd barely gotten out when he took off in a flash.
I knew he must be going back to discuss countermeasures with Natasha, but this time, no matter what they came up with, the things had to be returned.
After getting back, I thought for a moment, then drove straight to the company building.
In my past life, I had no interest in company matters, which allowed Knox to get away with it. In this life, I won't give up an inch of what belongs to the Lockwood family—I won't let anyone steal it away.
"Ms. Lockwood, what brings you here?"
The secretary was surprised to see me. I glanced at Henry's office. "My dad's not in?"
"Mr. Lockwood is in a meeting next door. Do you need me to call him?"
I shook my head. "No need, I'll go listen in."
The secretary opened the office door for me, and I walked in. It was a sales meeting. Looking at the series of data reports on the screen, I suddenly remembered something.
In my past life, also before Knox and I got married, the company had a problem with a batch of goods, and Henry lost quite a bit of money.
It was because of this that the Pemberton family took the opportunity to lend Henry money, then grabbed company shares.
After the Pemberton family got company shares, they slowly eroded the company.
Thinking of this, I frowned. Which batch of goods had the problem?
While I was deep in thought, I didn't notice the meeting had ended.
"Helena, what brings you here?"
Hearing Henry's voice, I stood up. "Nothing, I just wanted to come see you."
"Let's go."
Following Henry out of the conference room, he still asked with concern, "Really nothing wrong? Is it something with your mom?"
"No, Mom's fine and I'm fine. I just wanted to come see you."
"But after coming here, I have an idea."
"What idea?" Henry asked with a smile.
I said seriously, "I want to work at the company."
"What's gotten into you? In the past when I asked you to come, you always made excuses and never cared. Now you've changed your tune. Coming to the company is great—this company will be yours eventually anyway. Good time to practice. So when do you want to start?"
I thought for a moment. "Tomorrow. I'll start work tomorrow."
"Great!"
Hearing my words, Henry was both surprised and delighted. "So what position should we arrange for you? How about secretary? You can follow me around and learn more."
"That won't do. I want to go to sales, start learning from the ground up."
"Good, that's ambitious!"
Henry gave me a thumbs up. "But sales is tough work. You can't complain when the time comes."
"I won't, don't worry, Dad."
I was determined to enter the sales department and quietly investigate that batch of goods from my past life.
"Good, good. I have to tell your mother this good news."
"What? Helena's going to the company?"
Back home, Maria was also happy for me when she heard the news.
"I've been telling you to join the company. The company will be yours eventually—it's good to adapt early. But why sales? That's tough work."
Knowing Maria felt bad for me, I could only hug her arm and act cute. After a series of moves, Maria had no more complaints.
"Fine, fine. Go if you want. But one thing—if you get tired, we'll stop, okay?"
I replied with a grin, "Okay, got it!"
That night lying in bed, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, constantly thinking about which batch of goods had problems in my past life.
I had racked my brains, yet I still couldn't come up with an answer.
I was a bit angry at myself. If only I hadn't spent my past life just thinking about romance with Knox, I wouldn't have missed such important information.
Now I could only take it one step at a time.
Early the next morning, I changed into a business suit. Looking at myself in the mirror, I felt strangely unfamiliar.
I drove to the company quickly. Just as I parked, I heard a loud horn.
I turned to look and was somewhat surprised. "What are you doing here?"
It was Atlas.
He took off his sunglasses and walked toward me step by step. Seeing him approach, I frowned. "Atlas, what are you doing? This is the Lockwood Group. I suggest you behave yourself."
Perhaps my bluffing looked funny to him, because Atlas actually laughed out loud.
He looked me up and down. "Helena, I've discovered you look really good in business attire too."
As soon as he finished speaking, I flushed.
"Move aside, I'm going to be late for work."
"Work?"
He looked up at the building behind him with some surprise. "You're working at the company now?"
"Which department?"
I frowned. "Atlas, you're being a bit nosy. Why should I tell you?"
"Because I'm pursuing you right now."
I knew it—in verbal arguments, I couldn't beat Atlas.
"Atlas, I'm warning you, there's nothing between us. Plus, I'm engaged. Stop being unreasonable."
Hearing my words, a wicked grin appeared on Atlas's lips instead.
"Mentioning another man in front of me again, little kitten. Don't tell me you want me to kiss you?"
