Chapter 149: Completely Miserable

Chapter 150 All Coincidences

When I arrived, I saw York crouching miserably by the roadside with a pitiful look on his face.

As soon as he saw me, York let out a wail and rushed over.

"Stop, stay back!"

I blocked his stomach with my bag and said, "What's that smell? It really stinks."

York sniffed his own arm and said miserably, "Helena, I've been walking for half the day. It's body odor."

"Alright, I'll take you to get cleaned up first, then we'll go have a nice meal."

With that, I motioned for him to get in the car.

As soon as I started the car, my phone rang again. I picked it up and saw it was Serenity.

The moment I answered, Serenity was yelling at the top of her lungs, "Helena, where are you?"

I glanced at York beside me and said, "I'm driving. What's up?"

"Get here quick, Tranquil Bay Hotel, room 108."

After saying that, as if afraid I'd refuse, she hung up directly.

"Guess I can't take you to shower. Let's just go eat like this."

As I spoke, I turned the steering wheel and headed toward the hotel with York.

On the way, York told me the whole story of how Serenity had tortured him today.

It turned out that after Serenity went out with him, things were pretty normal at first.

But they hadn't been out long before Serenity started acting up.

First she said she was thirsty, then she said she was hungry. She complained that York hadn't prepared tissues in advance, then complained that the water he bought was too cheap.

Finally, she insisted on dragging him to a nearby hotel to eat, and one meal ate up half a month's salary for York.

That would have been bad enough, but the key thing was that after ordering all that food, she complained it wasn't good and barely ate anything.

Not only did she not eat, she wouldn't let York eat either. The money was spent but they didn't get to eat, and all that good food was thrown away. It really broke York's heart.

"She's so arrogant and willful. Now I'll have to scrape by for the rest of the month."

After he finished, I said directly, "Don't worry, I'll reimburse you for this meal. However much she made you spend, I'll make her pay it all back. How's that?"

Hearing this, York perked up, "So you're saying I can get double compensation?"

"Right, this counts as a work injury."

At these words, York got even happier. He said cheerfully, "I'm not doing it just for the money, but if there are any more good opportunities like this, keep me in mind."

"Actually, I think I could keep serving Serenity!"

After he said this, we both laughed.

We happened to arrive at the hotel just then. I got out with him and said, "When we go in, don't hold back, eat as much as you want. Let me tell you, the food at this hotel is really expensive. Make sure you eat plenty."

Hearing this, York got excited and rubbed his hands together, "Okay, I'll definitely make up for all the hunger I suffered today!"

"Let's go."

The two of us went straight to the private room. When I pushed open the door, I saw Serenity talking with Derek, her delicate face full of flattering smiles.

Hearing the noise, she looked up. When she saw York behind me, her expression froze, "Why did you bring him?"

I ignored her question and pulled out a chair, motioning for York to sit beside me.

After sitting down, Derek looked up and said mockingly, "What's the meaning of this, Ms. Lockwood? You come to a meeting and bring a man along. Don't you trust my character?"

"Derek, it's not that I don't trust you. It's just that York accompanied Serenity to work all day, but she just left him stranded, penniless, tired and hungry. I had no choice but to bring him along."

After I finished, I looked at York and said, "If you're hungry, go ahead and eat. Don't be shy."

York had been waiting for me to say this. As soon as I finished speaking, he reached his fork toward the lobster in the center of the table, put it in his bowl, and started eating heartily.

Watching his crude behavior, Serenity's face darkened.

"York, haven't you eaten in three days?"

"You actually got that right."

York's mouth was stuffed full of shrimp meat. He mumbled, "I really am very hungry today. If you're not hungry, you don't have to eat!"

"You!"

Serenity was furious. Finding she couldn't out-argue York, she turned to me and said, "Helena, he's being so embarrassing, and you're not going to do anything about it?"

I looked at York wolfing down his food. I was really worried he'd starve himself.

"Now you remember he's my employee? When you took all his money today and left him penniless and hungry, why didn't you remember he was my employee then?"

"You!"

Seeing that I wasn't showing any mercy either, Serenity said pitifully, "I didn't take his money. I was just hungry and asked him to buy me a meal."

"Just a meal?"

I glanced at her sideways, "Your one meal cost him most of half a month's salary. For the next half month, he might not have money to eat. You really don't know how to be considerate of others."

"How was I supposed to know his salary was so low? He's so old and still doesn't know how to work harder. Fine, it's just about money, isn't it? I'll transfer it to him right now."

Serenity took out her phone and said huffily, "Give me your account number. I'll transfer it right now!"

"Okay, okay."

York swallowed what was in his mouth and fumbled to take out his phone. He gave his account number and said, "Go ahead and transfer it."

Serenity angrily entered the numbers and completed the operation, then looked at York huffily and said, "I transferred an extra five thousand dollars to compensate you for today. That should be enough, right?"

"There's such a good deal?"

York looked at his phone in surprise, then glanced at me.

I picked up the red wine in front of me and took a small sip, saying, "Aren't you going to thank Serenity?"

"Thank you, Serenity."

York stood up, took a napkin from the table, wiped his hands clean, then picked up the red wine on the table and said, "I toast you with this glass, thank you for your generosity. If you ever need anything in the future, just say the word."

With that, he brought the glass to his lips and drank it all in one go.

Watching his extremely flattering behavior, Serenity said disdainfully, "Alright, you've eaten, you've got your money, now leave."

"Okay, Serenity, don't worry. Once I finish this lobster, I'll go."

York sat back down and continued eating.

"You!"

Seeing that York completely ignored her words, Serenity was furious but helpless.

After coldly observing this farce, Derek said coldly, "Helena, you did this on purpose today, didn't you?"

He pointed at York and said, "You deliberately brought him here to cause trouble?"

"Derek, what are you talking about? Everything today was a coincidence."

I leaned back against the chair, crossed my arms, and said lazily, "It just so happened that Serenity wanted to come to the company to learn, so I arranged for York to take her to visit clients. Just by coincidence, Serenity left him stranded, and right when I picked him up, I got a call from Serenity and came straight here."

"See, all coincidences. Nothing deliberate about it at all."
