Chapter 31 Chapter 31

Chapter 31 Chapter 31
Amelia

I sat quietly in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection for a long moment. Everything looked exactly the way I wanted it to. My hair, my face, every small detail, I had practiced for days to make sure I got it right. A small, satisfied smile formed on my lips.

I picked up my phone, opened the camera, and took a few pictures. Then I recorded short videos, carefully adjusting my angles. When I was done, I placed my phone back on the table and took a deep breath.

I knew Maxwell would be downstairs by now, having breakfast before leaving for work. Without wasting time, I slipped into a loose nightgown, letting it fall naturally over my body. I made my way out of the room and headed downstairs.

The moment I stepped onto the ground floor, one of the maids saw me and let out a loud gasp. Her eyes widened in shock, but I paid her no attention. I walked past her calmly and continued toward the dining room.

When I entered, Maxwell was already seated at the dining table. Cynthia, our chef, stood beside him, serving his breakfast. The moment they both noticed me, they froze.

Cynthia was the first to speak. “Are you alright, ma’am?” she asked quickly, her voice filled with concern.

I gave her a small nod, keeping my expression soft and innocent. Without saying a word, I walked further into the room and gently pulled out a chair at the other end of the table. I sat down slowly, directly opposite Maxwell, my movements calm and deliberate.

“What the fuck, Amelia!” Maxwell shouted, slamming both his hands down hard on the table. The force made the plates, cutlery, and glasses rattle loudly.

Cynthia flinched beside him, startled by his sudden outburst. I slowly raised my hand toward her and made a gentle gesture.

“Please, leave us,” I said softly, pressing one hand to my face as though I were in serious pain.

Cynthia looked at me with worry written all over her face. She hesitated, glancing between Maxwell and me, clearly unsure of what to do. After a brief pause, she bowed her head slightly and hurried out of the dining room.

The moment she was gone, I turned my full attention back to Maxwell. A small smile tugged at my lips. “Do you like my makeup?” I asked calmly, my smile widening.

I let out a quiet laugh and tilted my head slightly. “Poor Cynthia,” I added. “She must think you actually beat me.”

The truth was, I had spent the entire night awake, glued to YouTube. I watched countless videos, replaying them over and over again, learning how to apply makeup in a way that would make it look like I had been brutally beaten.

I didn’t stop practicing until I got the exact result I wanted.

Dark bruises surrounded my eyes. My skin looked swollen and tender, as if it had been struck repeatedly. There were faint marks that looked like cuts scattered across my arms and body. I had even wrapped a small bandage around my left wrist, making it seem as though I had injured it badly.

Every detail was deliberate, I wanted it to look real so real that anyone who saw me would immediately believe I was a battered woman. And judging by Cynthia’s reaction, I had succeeded.

“Perfect, right?” I said lightly, winking at him.
Maxwell’s expression darkened instantly. He slammed his hands on the table again, stood up and strode toward me, his face twisted with anger.

I reacted immediately, I raised my phone in front of me as if I were recording and shrank back in my chair, lifting both hands to shield my face. My voice trembled as I spoke.

“Please, don’t hit me. Please,” I begged, letting my body shake. “I can’t take your beatings anymore. Please, don’t hit me.”

Fake tears quickly filled my eyes, spilling over just enough to look real.

Maxwell froze mid-step. He stared at me, shock flashing across his face, followed quickly by anger. He took a step back, running a hand through his hair.

“What is this game you are trying to play, Amelia?” he asked sharply, his brows pulling together in a deep frown.

I slowly lowered my hands and dropped the frightened act just as quickly as I had put it on. My expression changed steady and fully in control.

“Thank you,” I said simply. “All I need you to do is call every investor and every board member you pressured into pulling out of my company. I want you to tell them to come back. I need my company running at full capacity again.”

Maxwell let out a low chuckle. A smirk spread across his face, as though he believed he had figured me out.

“And if I don’t?” he asked, smiling arrogantly.
“Or what?”

I didn’t flinch or shrink back, I met his gaze head-on, making sure he understood one thing very clearly, I was not afraid.

I wanted him to see He wasn’t the only one who knew how to make threats.

“The whole world is going to see you for what you are not, an abuser,” I said calmly, a slow smile forming on my lips. “I made videos, and I took plenty of pictures.”

His eyes immediately flicked to my phone in my hand. I noticed it, and my smile widened.

“And before you start thinking of grabbing my phone or smashing it,” I continued smoothly, “I already sent the videos to Adele. Everything is safe with her now. The ball is in your court.”

I smiled as I said it, even though I knew I was lying. I hadn’t sent her anything. I hadn’t even told her about my plan, I didn’t want her trying to talk me out of it or questioning my choices. I planned to tell her later after I got exactly what I wanted.

Maxwell’s jaw tightened. The muscles in his face hardened, and his eyes burned with anger as he stared at me.

“You think this gives you control over me?” he asked through clenched teeth, his voice thick with rage. I didn’t answer him immediately. Instead, I tilted my head slightly and studied him, completely unbothered.

“Are you going to give me your word and start fixing this right now,” I asked calmly, “or—” I picked up my phone again, holding it up between us.

“should I go ahead and post the pictures and videos I made?” I continued softly. “This time, I will make sure to tag you properly.”

He stared at me in silence for a long moment. His eyes searched my face, as if trying to find a crack, a sign of doubt, or fear. When he found none, he finally looked away.

Without another word, he turned back to the table and returned to his seat. He picked up his fork and continued eating as though nothing had happened, but the tension around him was impossible to miss.

I lifted my phone slightly and wiggled it at him, “I’m going to make allegations that will completely ruin you,” I said evenly. “You once said I almost ruined your life years ago. But this time, it will be something you won’t be able to recover from.”

His hand paused briefly in the air before slowly lowering back to his plate. After a few seconds, he spoke, his voice tight and controlled.

“Fine. I will start calling the investors. I will get the board members back on board.”

I smiled immediately, soft and sweet, as if we had just finished a normal conversation between husband and wife.

“Thank you so much, honey,” I said warmly.

“You really are the best husband ever.” I stood up from my chair and walked toward him, “Who would have thought my husband could be this considerate and loving?” I added playfully.

Before he could react I leaned down and placed a quick kiss on his cheek.

“I will let the maids know it was just a prank,” I said casually. “Though I’m not sure they will believe me, considering your… temperament since I arrived.” I smiled slightly as I spoke. His jaw tightened immediately, the anger in his eyes deepening, but he said nothing.

“I’m going to rest now,” I continued calmly.

“After all, I don’t have a job anymore, and it took me the entire night to pull this off.”

I gestured lightly over my body, referring to the bruises, bandages, and marks I had carefully created.

Without waiting for a response, I turned and made my way upstairs. My steps were light, almost playful, and I even danced a little as I climbed, fully aware that he was watching me from behind, his anger burning silently.

Once inside my room, I relaxed. I knew Maxwell well enough. He wouldn’t dare risk his reputation, his career, or his carefully built public image. Now, all that was left was to wait for updates from Kelvin.

As I settled onto my bed, a small smile returned to my lips. I found myself already looking forward to coming up with even more dramatic ways to threaten my dear husband in the future.

Adele was going to laugh so hard when I finally told her everything.
