Chapter 28 Chapter 28

Chapter 28 Chapter 28
Amelia

“So you are really moving in with a man and leaving the children with us?” my mother asked again. I had lost count of how many times she had said the same thing today.
I nodded quietly. I had come home to spend time with the kids and to explain the situation to my parents, well, part of it. I wasn’t ready to tell them everything.

“This is the only way I can fix the company and get it back on its feet,” I said softly. “Please, just help me take care of the kids while I do this.”

My mother didn’t argue anymore. She pulled me into a tight hug instead. After that, I went to the kids. I hugged them one by one, kissed their foreheads, and reminded them that I loved them more than anything. I said my goodbyes to my parents too and finally left.
I headed back to my apartment to pack my things. I wasn’t letting him buy me new clothes or replace anything more in my life.

I saw Adele’s car parked in the garage, so I already knew she was inside. The moment I walked into the house, she spoke.

“Why are we even packing?” she asked. “Your trillionaire husband already said he will buy you anything you want.”

“That’s exactly why,” I replied. “I don’t want him to have complete control over my life. He already has enough power as it is.” I sighed.

“Now please help me pack instead of fawning over my…. Mr. Sinclair.” I was irritated with myself for almost calling him my husband.
Adele rolled her eyes but didn’t argue. She followed me upstairs, and we started packing my things. As we worked, my frustration spilled out. “Can you believe that when I went to his office earlier today, I was kept waiting because he was sleeping with his girlfriend?”

Adele froze for a moment, then turned to look at me in shock. “Wait, your marriage hasn’t even started, and he’s already cheating on you?” she asked, stuffing clothes into a box.

“Does this girlfriend of his even know he’s about to marry another woman?”

“I don’t think so,” I said quietly. “I used to think Declan was the worst, but Maxwell…” I shook my head. “He irritates me in a way I can’t explain. Sometimes I wish he didn’t have my entire life in his hands.”

I paused, the frustration tightening my chest. I had tried everything. I reached out to every billionaire and major investor I knew, hoping someone would help save the company. But No one wanted to work with me. It felt like he had warned them all to stay away.

Adele stopped packing and looked at me seriously. “I know you, Amelia,” she said firmly. “You don’t give up without a fight. Even if you are being forced into this marriage, don’t back down.” She lowered her voice. “Let’s dig up dirt on them. The brothers, their parents, anything. We just need something that takes away their leverage over you.”

I shook my head slowly, then lifted my chin.
“He might think he’s won,” I said, my voice steady with determination. “But I’m not going down without a fight. And I’m definitely not having a baby for him.” I clenched my hands. “I will make sure I get everything I can on him and I will do it as soon as possible.”

Maxwell and Declan might think they have me exactly where they want me, but deep down, I promised myself that I would break free from their chains. No matter how long it took, I would find a way out.

“I just hope you don’t get carried away by the sex and forget why you are really there,” Adele said, giggling.

I narrowed my eyes at her. “You are impossible.”

She laughed even harder. “That man is hot, Amelia. A walking Greek god. I won’t judge you if you end up falling for him.”

I ignored her comment and focused on packing the rest of my things. I didn’t have the energy to argue, and I wasn’t about to let her distract me from what really mattered.

After we were done, Adele insisted on following me to Maxwell’s house. I told her it was a bad idea, but she wouldn’t listen.

“I just want to see where you’re moving to,” she said. “I will leave immediately after, I promise.”

At exactly eight o’clock, a sleek black car pulled up in front of my house. Maxwell’s driver stepped out and informed me that his boss had sent him to take me to his place.

Which also meant I wasn’t allowed to drive my own car there.

We arrived at his place, and the moment I stepped out of the car, I was stunned. It was the most beautiful house I had ever seen. The driver got down as well and calmly told me not to worry that my things would be taken upstairs.

Before I could even take it all in, Adele grabbed my hand and pulled me along. As soon as we walked inside, an elderly man approached us with a polite smile.

“Welcome, Mrs. Sinclair,” he said respectfully.

“Please, call me Amelia,” I replied, forcing a small smile as we followed him inside.

The house was breathtaking. Everything looked expensive, polished, and carefully placed. Adele wandered around the living room, touching everything she could, clearly impressed.

“Girl,” she said in a low voice, “I promise I won’t judge you if you fall for him.”

I ignored her comment and focused on steadying myself.

A few moments later, footsteps sounded from upstairs. I looked up just as Maxwell appeared, walking down the stairs wearing only sweatpants. Beside him was a woman in a very revealing gown, her hand resting casually on his arm. It was obvious they had just finished fucking.

“I haven’t left yet, and you already have other women waiting?” the woman said to Maxwell. His attention, however, was fixed on me as he continued down the stairs.

“Leave,” he said coldly.

His tone left no room for argument, the woman said nothing. She simply walked past me, deliberately brushing her body against mine as she did. I didn’t react. Instead, I turned to Adele and gave her a calm smile.

She, on the other hand, stepped forward boldly. “Hi, I’m Adele,” she said, extending her hand. “Amelia’s best friend.”

Maxwell didn’t take her hand. He only nodded slightly. “Nice to meet you, Adele,” he replied, his eyes never leaving me.

Adele dropped her hand and crossed her arms. “Well, I can’t say I’m pleased to meet you,” she said sharply. “And I’m here to make something very clear. If anything happens to my friend under your roof, you will regret it.”

I shot her a warning look, but she didn’t even glance my way. “You forced her into this marriage,” Adele continued. “So you’d better take good care of her. And don’t think parading other women around will make her jealous.”

She scoffed. “Trust me, she’s not impressed and she has fucked better dicks.”

She picked up her bag from where she had dropped it and walked back toward me.

“I didn’t ask you to do that,” I said through clenched teeth.

She smiled like she hadn’t heard me at all. “I’m just trying to help you keep him in line,” she whispered. Then she leaned closer. “He is so hot, I will give him that. But don’t forget why you are here. Stay focused, dig up as much dirt as you can while fucking him.”

Before I could respond, she pulled me into a tight hug. She walked toward the door, then suddenly stopped and turned back. “And don’t forget to send videos while at it,” she said with a mischievous wink before stepping out and closing the door behind her.

I took a deep breath, steadying myself, and turned toward Maxwell, just as the door opened again.

This time, another woman walked in. She was dressed in a very revealing nurse outfit, the kind that made it clear she wasn’t here for medical reasons.

Is this going to be my reality now?

Author's note: is the relationship going to be hell or heaven?.
