Chapter 155 Chapter 155
Chapter 155 Chapter 155
Amelia
I stood there in complete shock, unable to move. Adrian and his father? They knew about this?
Adrian had been by my side through everything. He had comforted me when I thought Maxwell was gone. He had helped me search for answers, was all of that an act? Had he been playing some kind of twisted game with me all along? What could he possibly gain from any of this?
Before I could make sense of the questions racing through my mind, the door to the hospital room swung open. Several NYPD detectives walked into the room with calm but determined expressions. Their eyes immediately settled on Camilla.
The moment she saw them, she pointed in our direction. "Please arrest them," she said in a rush. "They are trying to take my fiancé away from me. They manipulated his mind, fed him drugs, and are holding him hostage in this hospital."
None of the detectives reacted to her accusations. One of them stepped forward while the others remained by the door. "Miss Camilla," the detective said firmly, "we have a warrant for your arrest."
He paused before continuing. "During the execution of a search warrant at your residence, investigators recovered evidence of the drugs administered to Mr. Maxwell Sinclair. We also recovered the phone used to communicate with the individuals involved in his kidnapping two years ago, photographs documenting your surveillance of Mr. Sinclair before the kidnapping, and evidence linking you to the messages sent to the assassin hired to murder Miss Thelma."
Every one of us stood there in disbelief. My stomach tightened as I looked at Camilla. How could someone go this far all to keep a man who didn't even want to be with her?
Camilla slowly turned to face Maxwell, tears filled her eyes once again. "Maxwell," she said, her voice breaking, "everything I did, I did because I loved you. I was trying to save you from her, your parents and even your friends."
She tried to walk toward him, but one of the detectives immediately stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "Miss Camilla," the detective said, "you are under arrest."
As another detective moved beside her, they took hold of her arms and pulled them behind her back. The sound of the handcuffs clicking around her wrists echoed through the quiet room.
She struggled against them, trying to pull free, but the detectives maintained their grip and began escorting her toward the door.
She twisted around to look at Maxwell. "Maxwell, I love you," she cried. "I will always come back. If I can't have you, no other woman can."
The detectives continued leading her out of the room. As she reached the doorway, she suddenly stopped and turned to look directly at me. Her eyes were filled with hatred."You haven't won," she said coldly. "This isn't over."
A few hours later, I stood outside Adrian's house with Rafe beside me. He had refused to let me come alone. After everything that had happened, he wasn't taking any chances. He knew Adrian and his father were now connected to something much bigger than either of us had imagined.
I hadn't called Adrian before coming over. I wanted to look him in the eyes when he saw me.
A few seconds later, the front door opened, Adrian stepped outside. The moment he saw me standing there with Rafe, he froze. Surprise flashed across his face as his eyes moved between the two of us.
"Amelia," he said quietly. "What are you doing here?"
I didn't answer. Every ounce of anger, betrayal, and disappointment that had been building inside me over the past few hours boiled over. marched straight toward him, the moment I reached him, I swung my hand and slapped him hard across the face.
His head snapped to the side, before he could even react, I slapped him again. He stared at me in complete shock, one hand slowly rising to his burning cheek.
Just then, the front door opened again, his mother hurried outside and stopped the moment she saw us. She looked from Adrian to me before her expression hardened.
"What on earth is going on here?" she demanded. "Why are you in my house? Haven't I warned you never to step foot here again?"
I didn't even look at her, my eyes remained fixed on Adrian. "How dare you?" I shouted. "I trusted you. I let you get close to me because I believed you actually cared about me." My voice shook with anger. "All this time, you and your father were behind everything, trying to destroy my life?"
Adrian frowned in confusion."What are you talking about?" he asked. "What do my father and I have to do with any of this?"
I stared at him in disbelief, he really knew how to act. Never, not even once, had I suspected him, every time time my world fell apart, he was there.Every time I cried, he comforted me. And now I couldn't help wondering if every bit of it had been nothing more than another lie, another carefully planned act while he and his father worked behind the scenes.
"I just want to know why!" I yelled. "Are you trying to get revenge for your sister? For Rhea? Is that what this is? She isn't even related to you, so why would you do all this?"
"Young woman," Mrs. Cole said sharply, "you need to watch your tone."
I let out a humorless laugh and rolled my eyes. Before I could say anything, Rafe stepped forward.
"Your husband and your son are criminals," he said coldly. "They are accomplices in a kidnapping, drugging an innocent man, and the murder of an innocent young woman."
Mrs. Cole slowly turned to Adrian, her face losing all color. "Is that true?" she asked in disbelief.
Adrian immediately shook his head. "I don't know anything about what they are talking about," he said before looking at me. "Where did you get such information? Amelia, you know I would never do something like that to you."
I let out a bitter laugh. "Oh, please. Stop with the pathetic act, you fool," I snapped. "Camilla has already confessed. She's in NYPD custody." I took another step toward him. "You and your father are going down with her."
Before Adrian could respond, the front door opened again. Mr. Cole stepped outside. The moment his eyes landed on me, his expression hardened. The hatred in his eyes was impossible to miss. "What is she doing here?" he asked coldly.
Mrs. Cole slowly turned to face him. "Orion," she said, her voice trembling with anger, "after trying to take my daughter's life, you still went ahead and helped destroy her husband's life?"
Mr. Cole's composure cracked, his eyes widened for a brief moment before his expression became guarded again. Mrs. Cole didn't give him a chance to speak. "Did you really think I didn't know?" she continued. "Did you think I never found out you were the one who sent those assassins? That I knew nothing about everything you have been planning all these years?"
"Mom..." Adrian said, completely confused. "What are you talking about?" He looked from his mother to his father before turning back to us. "Why would Dad want to kill Rhea? She's been out of our lives for years."
As he spoke, he glanced at Rafe and me, clearly uncomfortable that we were standing there listening to what was quickly becoming his family's darkest secret.
But I didn't care, I wanted answers. Since Rhea wasn't even his biological daughter, why would he go as far as helping Camilla destroy Maxwell and me? What did he possibly have against me?
Mrs. Cole suddenly broke down in tears, she covered her mouth for a moment before looking directly at me. Fresh tears streamed down her face. "Amelia is my biological daughter.” Mrs. Cole looked at Adrian. "She is your sister." Then she turned to Mr. Cole, her eyes filled with years of pain and betrayal. "And your father has spent years trying to kill her."
