Chapter 151 Chapter 151

Maxwell

Just as I ended the call, another wave of pain exploded inside my head. It was far worse than the previous ones. A sharp, crushing ache spread through my skull so suddenly that my vision blurred for a second. My knees almost gave out beneath me, and I staggered forward.

Before I could hit the floor, the guys rushed over and caught me. They quickly supported my weight and carefully guided me to the couch.

The moment I sat down, I buried my face in my hands, pressing my fingers against my temples as if I could somehow stop the pain from splitting my head apart.

Amelia was beside me almost immediately. "Are you okay? Are the kids alright?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

I forced myself to nod. "The kids are fine," I replied, taking a slow breath. "It's just this terrible headache I have been dealing with since this morning. It started after your boyfriend came to my office looking for a fight."

"Oh, Adrian?" she asked, absentmindedly scratching the back of her head. "He never told me he went to your office. Besides, he's not my boyfriend. He's a very good friend."

The concern on her face quickly disappeared, replaced by anger.

"But honestly, you deserved the punch and everything else he did to you after what your fiancée is trying to do to me." Her voice hardened. "Why is she accusing me of murdering a girl I have never even met? The police were here today."

My brows pulled together. "Camilla was the witness?" I asked, surprise evident in my voice.

"Who else would it be?" Adele answered.

Rafe immediately grabbed her arm before she could say anything else. He looked around at everyone in the room and silently gestured for them to give us some privacy. One by one, they walked out, leaving Amelia and me alone.

Silence settled between us for a few seconds

. "I'm sorry," I said quietly. "About the house. I didn't know anything about it until the story went viral. I never told Camilla to take it away from you."

She stared at me, her brows knitting together. I watched as her expression slowly changed. Sadness filled her eyes, so deep and raw that it made something tighten painfully inside my chest.

"But you moved into it a few days later," she said softly. "Then you sent your lawyers to offer me another house as compensation." She shook her head. "Maxwell, that house meant everything to me. To the kids and even to you." Her voice cracked with emotion. "Our journey to where we are today started in that house."

I frowned deeply. "I don't remember any of that," I admitted, pointing to my head. "There's nothing in here. No memories of you." I let out a slow breath before continuing.

"I only believed what Camilla told me. She convinced me you were an imposter pretending to be my wife because you used to work for my family. She said my wife died while the children were in your care, and after that, you started pretending to be their mother."

Camilla had been so convincing that I never had a reason to question her. I watched her put her career on hold to stay by my side while I recovered. She was there through every nightmare, every moment of grief, helping me cope with what I believed was the loss of Amelia. Little by little, she became the person I relied on. Somewhere along the way, I started falling in love with her.

She made every lie sound like the truth. Everything she told me fit together so perfectly that I never thought to doubt her. Until this afternoon.

"Maxwell, I never died. I'm right here. It's me... Amelia," she said. Her voice trembled as she looked directly into my eyes. "I don't know what she did to your memories, but pictures don't lie."

She excused herself and walked into one of the rooms. A few moments later, she returned carrying a stack of photographs. She held them out to me, and after a brief hesitation, I took them.

"This was us with the kids," she said quietly. "We were happy. Life wasn't easy..." A tear rolled down her cheek. "Our journey was difficult. We struggled through so much, but we were finally building the family we had always dreamed of. Then you disappeared."

I lowered my eyes to the photographs, one after another, I examined them carefully. Every picture showed the same thing, me, Amelia and the children.

Holding each other like a family. The smile on my face didn't look forced. It was real, I looked genuinely happy in every single photograph.

Yet I couldn't remember any of it, I slowly looked back up at her. "So, you are the real Amelia?" I asked quietly. "You never died?"

"Yes!" she cried, almost shouting in frustration. "I never died! I'm not an imposter, and those children are mine."

She wiped the tears from her face with the back of her hand before continuing. "Camilla knows exactly what she's doing. That's why she keeps you away from everyone who knows the truth—your friends, me, everyone except your parents."

She shook her head, unable to hide her disbelief. "What still doesn't make sense to me is your parents. They knew we had been searching everywhere for you, yet they still accepted Camilla immediately and went along with everything she said."

I leaned back against the couch, my head throbbing even harder, none of this made any sense. My parents had never hinted that something was wrong, they never questioned Camilla's story. They never suggested there was any foul play.

When I returned home with no memories, they welcomed Camilla without hesitation. They seemed genuinely happy that I was back, and they treated her as if she truly belonged in my life.

The more Amelia spoke, the more everything I thought I knew began to unravel, leaving me unsure of what or who—I was supposed to believe.

I ran both hands over my face, trying to make sense of everything. "Someone deliberately erased my memories but why?" I asked, my voice filled with frustration.

"Who else could it be but Camilla?" Amelia replied, throwing her hands up helplessly. "I guess she did it because she wanted to be with you or maybe for some other reason. I honestly don't know."

I lowered my head and let out a slow breath. Looking back now, I couldn't believe I had never questioned it. I had convinced myself that my memories would eventually return on their own, so I never saw a reason to dig deeper. I simply accepted my condition and carried on with my life.

But now, I didn't even know who I really was. The person I believed myself to be could have been nothing more than a carefully constructed lie. It was beyond frustrating.

Amelia reached for her phone on the table and unlocked it before handing it to me.

"This picture was taken over seven years ago," she said, a faint smile appearing on her lips despite the tears still lingering in her eyes. "It was the night I seduced you into sleeping with me, and then I uploaded the pictures online."

I took the phone from her and looked at the photographs on the screen. Every picture felt strangely familiar, yet none of them brought back a single memory.

"I would have shown you the videos too," she said with a small shrug, "but they're rated eighteen."

I barely heard the rest of her words, as she shifted closer to me, a familiar scent drifted into my nose. Her shower gel, thr fragrance was soft and fresh, but the moment I inhaled it, something stirred deep inside my mind.

A flash, like I had smelled that exact scent countless times before. I squeezed my eyes shut and desperately tried to reach for the memory.

It was right there, just beyond my grasp. I pushed harder, trying to force the pieces together then the pain hit. A violent ache exploded inside my head. It was far worse than the earlier headaches, as though something inside my skull was tearing itself apart.

I grabbed my head with both hands. "Argh!" A scream escaped my lips before I could stop it. The pain was unbearable. Amelia jumped to her feet in panic.

"Guys!" she shouted. The door burst open almost immediately as Rafe, Adele, and the others rushed into the room. Within seconds, they were all surrounding me, calling my name, but their voices sounded distant beneath the pounding in my head.

It felt as if my brain was being crushed from the inside. I clutched my head tighter, breathing heavily as another scream tore from my throat. Without wasting another second, they lifted me off the couch and rushed me outside. They quickly got me into the car and sped toward the hospital.

As the vehicle raced through traffic, I caught a glimpse of Rafe pulling out his phone, he was already dialing 911. The pain continued to consume me, and my vision became darker with every passing second.

Before we even reached the hospital, the darkness completely swallowed me, I lost consciousness.
