Chapter 46 No One Loves Me
Mira was surprised to hear the Luna Queen’s suggestion. Is this true, she was going to marry Alpha Gideon and become his second wife? Wow, that is a good thing! Even if they can find a shaman who can undo the soul swap she will still be married to him. It’s a win-win situation for her. Too good to be true.
But wait a minute!
Would he really marry someone who is a lowly maid, an ugly-faced woman and worst a human being?
Something isn't right. She fell into deep thought for a few seconds while trying to understand the logic of the Luna Queen’s suggestion. That's when she finally realized that the marriage had to happen so there was no need for the royal family to explain to everyone about Luna Rosie and Alpha Gideon's sleeping arrangement.
If Luna Rosie was married to her husband, the servants, the staff and the rest of society would no longer question such a move because the heir to the throne was allowed to have five wives. Then if the shaman comes and reverses the soul swap, Luna Rosie will make sure her husband divorces her and she will be kicked out of the mansion.
Ah, finally she understood everything.
The marriage was just a cover up to hide the soul swap incident. That’s how it is…
Dang! Her happiness was short-lived.
Outside, she was pretending that Alpha Gideon meant nothing to her, but deep inside she was still hoping they could have their own happy ending in her own body.
‘But it’s okay, your body still has to marry him! It’s better than nothing!' She told herself, smiling happily.
Unknown to Mira, Luna Rosie stared at her face for a long time, observing her reaction to the news.
Luna Rosie was not happy with the suggestion. She was furious. She can be the only wife of her husband! She finds the whole thing ridiculous. She needs to object before her nightmare begins.
Luna Queen Rebecca noticed the scowl on her daughter-in-law’s face. “Rosie dear, what do you think of my suggestion?"
Luna Rosie took a deep breath. “No, I object to it! I will not agree to my husband taking another wife. It’s betrayal and a big insult to me as his wife and Luna. Mira should stay away from the mansion and live in the bungalow house until she gives birth to my baby. Then after my baby is born she will have to leave the mansion. That’s what I wanted to happen!” she said defiantly.
Luna Queen Rebecca was taken aback by her daughter-in-law’s defiance.
“I’m sorry, Mother, I can’t accept your suggestion,” she said apologetically. “I must be the only wife of my husband, period!” she declared in a firm tone.
Luna Queen Rebecca sighed. “But how can you explain to everyone your presence in your room with your husband? They will wonder why such a maid with a low status stayed in my son’s room all day and night while his wife was living in the bungalow house all to herself. My suggestion is the best arrangement for you and Mira. There is no need to explain to everyone about what actually happened because they won’t be able to understand the soul swap anyway.”
Luna Rosie pouted, not giving in to her mother-in-law’s persuasion.
Alpha Gideon understands his wife’s defiance very well. He knows why she won't accept him taking another wife out of jealousy. “My love, don’t worry, after we find a shaman who can reverse soul swaps, I will divorce Mira and give her freedom. Besides, the marriage was for a show only. It was meant to deter staff from gossiping. We no longer have to explain everything to everyone about the soul swap. It saves everyone time and makes things easier for us.” He paused for a moment. Damn, convincing his wife is so hard.
Then he continued, “I repeat, the marriage between me and Mira is just to stop future gossip and prevent the soul swap from leaking into the media’s awareness. It would create a media frenzy because this incident is one of a kind, it has never happened before. Everyone will be curious about the soul swap and want to know the whole story. We have to avoid that kind of toxic attention from the media or from everyone else. My marriage with Mira is not real, you have nothing to worry about,” he assured her gently, trying to make his wife agree to his choice which he thinks is the only practical way to deal with their current problem.
Luna Rosie snorted, looking at her husband with disappointment and pain flashing in her eyes. How could he agree to his mother’s suggestion so easily? He doesn't care about her feelings at all. Right now, she feels betrayed by her husband. Her heart was squeezed painfully into her rib cage. The betrayal was so damn painful!
Heavy silence enveloped the room.
The trio was dealing with a vast array of emotions creating havoc in their minds.
After analyzing everything, Alpha King Samuel finally says, “Alright, guys, let’s not rush this issue. Let’s give Rosie a chance to think things over about her husband taking another wife. Let’s give her two weeks to think things over,” he finally said.
“OK, I agree but the pregnant Mira can’t stay in the bungalow house alone because it would raise questions and endless gossip among the staff and servants and before we know it the whole country will know about it. The media will come asking for interviews and so on. I hate that kind of sick circus,” Luna Queen Rebecca said vehemently.
The time he waited finally came. Alpha Gideon said, “I already suggested to my wife that we would utilize the room next to ours as Mira’s temporary place to stay. To prevent questions, my wife will enter Mira's room and use the connecting door to enter our room. My wife and I can’t be seen entering and exiting our room together until the marriage is done,” he explained.
“Good idea! I approve it, son,” Alpha King Samuel said. “Now that the problems have been settled temporarily, I will take my leave," he said and walked to the door, leaving everyone to deal with their turbulent thoughts and emotions.
Luna Queen Rebecca has been observing the girls' faces. She took a deep breath. “Honestly, the soul swap took me by surprise. At first, when I heard about it from my son, I couldn't believe it. But after talking to you guys, I realized it is true and we are powerless to do anything about it. Until now I still had a hard time coming to terms with it. It’s like a bizarre fantasy story that only happened in the books I read. But now it has occurred in reality and worse in my own family. This is truly shocking and so upsetting," she said sadly.
They fell into deep silence as their lives were being turned upside down by the bizarre incident.
Luna Queen Rebecca gently clasped her daughter-in-law’s hands. “Rosie dear, I feel your pain. It must be hard for you to wake up in another woman’s body. Your situation is very difficult. I sympathize with your struggle. Stay strong not only for your husband, your unborn child but also for yourself. Don’t worry, my husband and I will try to locate a powerful being that would help undo the soul swap between you and Mira. We will definitely help you,” she assured her.
Tears of gratitude shone in Luna Rosie’s eyes, deeply moved by the sincerity of the older woman’s comforting words. “Thank you so much, Queen Mother. I appreciate your kindness and support. It will help me get through the dark times while I deal with the difficulties associated with the soul swap,” she said in a dispirited tone, tears filling her eyes.
Luna Queen Rebecca enveloped the distraught girl in her embrace. “Shh, don’t cry, stay strong, things will get better in time,” she said, rubbing her back gently to comfort her.
Mira saw the affectionate interaction between the Luna Queen and Luna Rosie. She envied their closeness, hoping she would also get the same treatment from the Queen Mother. She needs hugs and comforting words too!
But after the two women disengaged from their hugs, the Luna Queen only looked at her, shaking her head. Confused about what to do with her. She had a hard time forming the words to say to the maid. She finally said, “Guys, I will leave the room now. If you need help with Mira’s arrangements or anything don't hesitate to come to me for help."
“Thank you for your kindness, Queen Mother,” Luna Rosie and Mira said in chorus.
Luna Queen Rebecca looked at Mira for a few seconds and then left the room without saying a word.
Mira was disappointed by the Luna Queen's uncaring attitude. She failed to say a single comforting word to her. She felt she was left out. She was a victim of the soul swap too! Ignoring her made her feel unloved, rejected and unwanted.
She wanted to cry because of the sadness that no one loved her. But she must not cry!
She watched in sadness as Luna Rosie stood up and went to the bed and hugged her husband. Can’t she hug him too? He’s also her husband. Sigh. She bit her lip as sadness and envy tore her heart to pieces.
The tender scene of the couple hugging and comforting each other alienated her, making her feel like she was an outsider. Sad. She didn't belong anywhere else. No one loves her. What a sad way to live.
Alright, she got it. Her presence is no longer needed in the room.
She has to leave.
She stood up and slowly walked to the door, exiting the room quietly so as not to disturb the couple in their loving embrace.
She climbed the stairs, went straight to Luna Rosie’s room on the second floor and took refuge.
After arriving in the room, she quickly gets into the bed, hides behind the covers and starts crying her heart out aloud, allowing the tears to fall from her eyes freely, hoping that after she finishes crying the pain will also stop because she doesn't want to feel pain anymore.
The people in this house simply don't care about her feelings at all. They didn't even ask how she felt about the soul swap. The royal family just assumed that she was lucky to inhabit a beautiful body and live a pampered life. They didn't know that Luna Rosie had been bullying her and hurting her physically when nobody was around.
She was just a lowly maid worth nothing in their eyes and didn't belong in the royal family. The truth hurt her terribly, making her cry harder out of self-pity and loneliness.
A few minutes later, the door opened.
Luna Rosie entered the room. “Mira, we need to talk!” she said urgently.
