Chapter 56 False Alarm

Chapter 56 False Alarm

Jocelyn's POV
This was the flight Richard had booked. It was the same time he'd taken off, 7 AM.
I sat there, numb, tears rolling down my face. I knew it was Colton. No one else.
It had happened in my past life, and now I'd failed to prevent Colton from having his way.
"Jocelyn! Jocelyn!" Lilian called out, jerking me back to reality.
"Why are you crying?" she asked worriedly.
I pointed to the screen and she let out a scream.
"No! No! It can't be possible!" she cried.
At this point, I was no longer seeing clearly. The figures I saw came as doubles.
But I heard her dial Richard's number.
The response echoed in my head: "The number you dialed is not reachable."
She dialed and dialed to no avail. Then she fell to the floor and began crying.
I was already gone, seated but absent.
Martha came in screaming and crying. She'd phoned Wade, but Wade hadn't arrived yet.
Then the devil walked in.
Colton.
I stood up like a deranged patient and rushed at him.
"You murderer! You've killed him, right? You're satisfied now. You've got your revenge. Now you can have Kylie and the company all to yourself!" I flared up at him.
Everyone rushed towards me, trying to hold me down. But I was overwhelmed with an extraordinary strength that stemmed from pure anger.
Close family friends and partners began to flood into the house, and I was forced to calm down.
But Colton walked over to me and gave me a smile of triumph.
I couldn't hold it anymore. I picked up the flower vase beside me and aimed for his head. But Wade stepped in immediately and caught it.
Colton gave a huge laugh, both mocking and pretentious.
I rushed over to Colton.
"Tell me it's not true! Tell me that Richard's not dead!" I cried.
"What exactly is going on here?" Wade asked with a very confused look.
"Didn't you hear the news?" Colton asked. "Richard's dead."
"Dead? It's not possible. He just called me saying he's been dialing Jocelyn's number but it's unreachable. He sent me here to check if everything is alright," Wade said.
Lilian rushed to him immediately.
"What? The news can't be lying!" Colton said, his voice rising.
"Did you see his body?" Wade asked calmly.
"Of course! He wants Richard dead. That's what he wants. But Wade, please tell me he wasn't involved in the crash," I said desperately.
"Check your phone," Wade said.
I picked up my phone immediately and saw several missed calls from Richard.
I called him back immediately and he picked up.
Excitedly, I put the phone on loudspeaker so everyone could hear.
"Hi, baby. I've been calling you, but it was unreachable," Richard said, worry evident in his voice.
"I thought... we thought you were involved, oh... in the crash," my voice broke as tears rolled down my face.
"You don't have to worry. I landed safely. It was the flight that I missed that had the crash."
I looked straight into Colton's eyes and saw the huge disappointment.
He'd probably sacrificed so much for this failed venture.
After the conversation with Richard, everyone was already relieved. Lilian was serving tea with Martha to her guests. I looked around for Colton, but I couldn't find him.
I ran outside, but he wasn't there. He'd probably gone to relay the news to Kylie.
