Chapter 99 Bullying James
"Ready? I won't be holding back!" Daniel's voice was deep and confident.
He smoothly changed the subject.
Charles wanted to race Daniel to see how he measured up, so he naturally hoped Daniel would give it his all.
"That's exactly what I want, but shouldn't you change your clothes? The race is about to start," Charles reminded him.
"Yeah, so you need to leave," Daniel said, giving him a dismissive glance.
Charles wanted to argue, "We're both guys, what's the big deal... Fine, I'll go. I'll wait outside."
Before he could finish, he met Daniel's cold gaze and quickly surrendered, hurrying out.
This race was Daniel's idea. He wanted to confirm his suspicion that Emily was QS. He wasn't entirely sure before, but seeing her at the back entrance with a race car almost confirmed it for him.
Unlike Byron, who had a more dramatic reaction, Daniel was still shocked. It meant she had started racing right after turning eighteen.
But unlike Byron, Daniel felt a strange sense of pity for Emily. What kind of circumstances had pushed her into such a dangerous activity?
As Daniel went to get his racing suit, his eyes fell on the surveillance screen, where he saw a man getting out of a car.
Knox!
How did Emily know him? And they seemed quite familiar, especially with Knox ruffling Emily's hair.
Daniel's deep eyes were filled with murderous intent as he stared at the hand Knox used to ruffle her hair, as if he wanted to pierce it.
Emily seemed to sense something and looked up, her gaze meeting Daniel's through the camera. Even the usually composed Daniel felt a moment of panic at being caught.
Realizing he was flustered, Daniel couldn't help but smile. He knew he had feelings for Emily.
"What's wrong?" Knox asked, noticing Emily had stopped talking and was looking at something.
Emily didn't see anything unusual and shook her head calmly. "It's nothing, probably just my imagination."
She had come to the race on a whim and had never revealed herself as QS before, so it was unlikely anyone was watching her.
"Should I join the race too? I'm curious about your skills. Emily, you never told me you could race," Knox said with a charming, roguish smile.
Emily thought his expression was bizarre. "You never asked, so I never said anything. Who talks about this stuff casually? If you want to race, I won't stop you. But you're not taking back the car you gave me, right?"
"Relax, since I gave it to you, I won't take it back. I was just joking," Knox laughed at Emily's wary expression. It was rare to see her show any emotion. Despite her young age, she acted so mature. He was more interested in watching her race than competing against her.
Soon, Byron called.
"Ms. Johnson, you're all registered. Don't worry, no one will know who you are."
Byron's voice was brimming with excitement, like they were sharing a big secret.
"Awesome!" Emily responded, much calmer.
She hung up and stopped chatting with Knox, getting ready to drive onto the track.
Before getting in, she turned to Knox. "I'll have Byron send you my race number."
Since he was here, she wanted him to watch.
"Got it!" Knox smiled.
Emily drove onto the track.
Another racer, James, was also there. He felt he had lost to Byron because of Bianca. To prove his skills, he decided to join the solo race.
As the cars arrived, Charles burst into Daniel's room, clearly agitated.
"Daniel, guess what? QS is really here! I knew it! She signed up for the race. You're going head-to-head with her! This is epic!"
Charles was so excited he forgot Daniel might still be changing. Anyone else would have been thrown out for such an interruption.
But Charles's words didn't faze Daniel. He had already suspected as much. Still, hearing it confirmed made his heart race with excitement.
"Let's go," Daniel said, not even glancing at Charles as he walked out.
"Daniel, wait for me! How can you be so calm? That's QS!" Charles hurried to keep up.
Daniel frowned. He never realized Charles could be so noisy. But people like Charles were the only ones who could be friends with someone like Daniel. Two quiet people would freeze the air around them.
Emily was already on the track. Her car was number seven. Daniel's car was number eight. He had arranged it that way after learning Emily had arrived.
Daniel glanced at Emily. Even though he couldn't see her face, he could imagine the scene.
Emily sensed the gaze from the car beside her and looked over, her eyes barely acknowledging the other driver. She couldn't see his face, but the aura was unmistakable. It was the presence of a formidable opponent.
She looked down at his car. Though the exterior didn't reveal much, when the race started with a gunshot, the sound of his car told her it was specially modified.
At first, there wasn't much difference. Emily's car and Daniel's car were neck and neck. James, on the other hand, floored it from the start, quickly leaving several cars behind.
He grinned arrogantly under his helmet. But his smugness didn't last long. He soon found himself boxed in by two cars. Every time he accelerated, they matched his speed, staying just half a car length ahead.
James couldn't help but wonder if Byron had sent people to mess with him.
But soon, he realized it wasn't just about keeping up. The other drivers were in complete control.
Emily had recognized James's car. Even without seeing it, his driving style gave him away. She was surprised the car beside her also seemed to have a grudge against James and was working with her to box him in.
As they rounded another lap, the other cars fell behind, and all eyes were on the three of them.
