Chapter 88: Are You an Idiot?
"How can it be you? Where's the doctor? Are you pretending to be the doctor? Emily, I thought you just didn't like me, but now I see you're really good at impersonating people. Quit messing around and tell me, where's the doctor?" Bianca snapped back to reality, demanding answers urgently.
James's face darkened. "Emily, don't push it. My patience has limits. Where did you send the doctor?"
Emily chuckled softly. "Maybe I'm the amazing doctor you're talking about?"
Bianca laughed like she'd heard the funniest joke. "Emily, it's great to have dreams, but they shouldn't be delusions. I'm not mocking you, but this is clearly impossible. Don't lie just to impress James!"
"James, even if I defend Emily, I still think she needs a lesson. You can't just impersonate a doctor! What if the real doctor finds out?" Bianca's righteous indignation was evident.
She knew exactly what she was doing. She always had her own logic.
James's frown deepened. "Emily, do you realize how wrong you are? Where did you hear about this amazing doctor? Did Mr. Watson tell you? Did you get the information from Mr. Watson?"
Mentioning this made him frown even more, finding it absurd. How could someone like Joe trust Emily so much?
"Did you bribe Mr. Watson with some trick to play along with you?... I..."
Bianca quickly covered her mouth, as if she had guessed correctly but knew she shouldn't have said it.
Emily wasn't surprised or angry at their insults. But Bianca had no right to drag Joe into this.
Before Emily could speak, James actually believed Emily and started to make malicious assumptions. He grabbed Emily's arm, his face full of disappointment.
"Emily, how could you be so shameless? Even when you were picking up trash, you never sold yourself out. You had self-respect. Look at what you've become!" He spoke with deep pain, practically condemning her.
Emily rolled her eyes, exasperated. She forcefully shook off James's hand.
"Are you an idiot? If you want to check my credentials, it's not that hard since you're in charge of this competition!"
"And when did you become so arrogant? Mr. Watson's reputation isn't something you can tarnish. He's not someone who would fake things for anyone!"
Bianca quickly jumped in. "Maybe Mr. Watson did it for Mr. Smith or Floyd's sake. Emily, if you have such connections, I have to admire you." Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Emily couldn't help but laugh at Bianca's malicious assumptions.
She suddenly stood up. Despite being shorter than James, her presence was intimidating. "So you agree with Bianca? If so, then you're stupid. Do you think Mr. Smith or Floyd, or someone like Mr. Watson, would go along with this just to embarrass Bianca? You're overestimating yourself!"
Sarcasm was not hard for Emily. And she wasn't making baseless claims.
James knew the weight of those names.
Daniel wouldn't waste his time on Bianca. She wasn't that important. James wouldn't either.
James's thoughts wavered, and his gaze toward Emily shifted.
Bianca sensed James's change in attitude and felt uneasy. Emily being here already confirmed her identity as the amazing doctor. But Bianca couldn't accept it. How had Emily become such a skilled doctor right under her nose?
Even if Emily was talented, Bianca could still sway James's opinion.
Bianca quickly changed her tone. "Emily, if you're really the doctor, that's great. Can you treat Aurora? Doctors save lives; you wouldn't ignore her plight, especially with your skills, right?"
She was putting Emily on a moral pedestal.
But Emily wasn't buying it. "I'll help, but on one condition. If you agree to my terms, I'll treat Aurora for free. Deal?"
Bianca didn't expect Emily to counter her so cleverly. She nearly ground her teeth in frustration.
"Emily, what are you saying? If you treat Aurora, I'd do anything, even die. But I believe you're not that cruel, right?"
Bianca responded quickly, seemingly agreeing but setting a trap. If Emily made unreasonable demands, she'd appear heartless.
James frowned slightly. "Emily, you can make a request. I'll try to fulfill it, even if it means not breaking off our engagement. Just stop targeting Bianca."
Emily couldn't help but clap sarcastically. James's expression froze.
"Such a devoted man, one who doesn't defend me. Do you think I'd be interested in someone like that?" Emily looked at James with disdain.
Then she directly addressed Bianca. "My request is simple. Admit to all the bad things you've done to sabotage me over the years, all the lies you've told. Then I'll treat Aurora."
Bianca's eyes turned cold but quickly returned to normal. In the next moment, tears filled her eyes. "Emily, you're doing all this just to falsely accuse me? If you go back to being the obedient girl who listened to James, I'll admit to everything."
"Emily, those things are in the past. Bianca hasn't held them against you. Why can't you let go? This request is unreasonable!" James disagreed.
Emily sneered. "It's easy for you to say when you're not the one suffering. James, you never really believed in me."
"I thought Bianca had some feelings for Chase and would help for love. But it seems I was wrong."
Emily directly ordered them to leave.
"I... I admit..." Bianca bit her lip, struggling before finally agreeing. But before she could finish, she started breathing heavily, her face turning pale, her body swaying.
"Bianca, are you okay?" James quickly supported Bianca, who leaned into him, pretending to faint.
Emily noticed her eyes still moving under her eyelids. She wasn't surprised and mocked, "What an act! Falling ill so suddenly!"
"Enough, Emily! How can you be so heartless? Just wait, we don't have to beg you!" James shouted at Emily, made his threat, and hurriedly carried Bianca out.
