Chapter 85: Mischievous, Just Enjoy Watching Two People Make a Fool of Themselves
"Mr. Watson, I'm really sorry if Emily's actions embarrassed you. She's always been super competitive with me at home, so sometimes she goes a bit overboard. But I'm sure you won't be easily fooled by her."
Bianca turned to Joe as she spoke.
Joe's expression remained cold.
Bianca probably thought she was right, assuming Emily wouldn't have a place in the medical field after this.
But Joe scoffed, "Who do you think you are? Do I need you to teach me anything? And do you even know who she is? She's..."
"Mr. Watson!"
Emily quickly interrupted Joe before he could reveal her identity.
Instead, she smirked at the two of them. "Why all the chatter? You came to see Joe just to complain about me?"
Bianca was taken aback.
She almost forgot the real reason they were here because of Emily.
She'd deal with Emily later.
Not wanting Emily to know her true intentions, Bianca coldly said, "Emily, this isn't your concern. Focus on learning basic medical skills so you don't end up harming others and yourself."
Then she quickly covered her mouth, pretending to regret her harsh words. "Sorry, Emily. I only said that because I'm genuinely worried about you."
She turned to James, tugging on his wrist. "James, what we're about to discuss isn't suitable for Emily to hear. It's not too much to ask her to leave, is it?"
James knew the upcoming conversation wasn't for Emily's ears, to prevent any misguided ideas.
With a stern voice, he said, "Emily, you should leave for now. I'll come find you once we're done here, and we can have a proper talk. And don't blame Bianca; she's right. If you truly want to learn medicine, you should start with the basics and not look for shortcuts."
"Unbelievable! Who do you think you are? If anyone should leave, it's you!"
Joe was furious.
Emily quickly tried to calm Joe down. "Look at you, getting all worked up at your age. If they want me to leave, I'll go. Just call me if anyone needs me."
Joe was surprised by Emily's calm demeanor this time.
Out of Bianca and James's sight, Emily winked at Joe.
Joe understood the hidden meaning behind her words.
His expression softened. "Alright, I'll listen to you. No need to get angry over irrelevant people. If you need to go, then go."
Emily nodded.
She did have something to attend to, so she didn't linger.
Bianca, pretending to be kind, offered to wait outside to give Emily a ride home.
Emily ignored her and left without looking back.
Seeing the closeness between Emily and Joe, Bianca felt uneasy. Had Emily already managed to deceive Joe?
She quickly said, "Mr. Watson, please don't misunderstand. We're not targeting Emily. She's my sister, and as her older sister, I naturally want the best for her. You might not know her well enough yet."
As Joe started to get angry again, Bianca pulled James forward.
"Mr. Watson, this is James, the current head of the Smith family."
James, used to being revered since his return to the Smith family, maintained a proud demeanor in front of Joe.
Bianca's introduction only made him more arrogant.
He slightly raised his head. "Mr. Watson!"
Joe sensed James's arrogance.
Clearly, James underestimated Joe's status.
Someone like Joe, who remained composed even in front of powerful figures like Daniel, had his own pride.
"If you got something to say, spit it out. I'm busy."
Joe's tone stayed cold and distant.
"Mr. Watson, we were hoping you could introduce us to that highly skilled doctor. Rest assured, if you help us, we won't forget to show our gratitude."
Bianca hinted at offering Joe a reward.
Since Joe was here as a judge for this competition, he might be looking to earn more money. With their offer of more cash, she was confident he would be tempted.
Looking for Emily?
Joe thought of Emily who had just left. Bianca, her own sister, didn't even know the skilled doctor was right beside her.
He finally understood Emily's earlier hint about someone looking for her.
Joe's anger turned into a knowing smile. "You want to find her? If you're so capable, why come to me? What makes you think I'll tell you?"
Bianca's hopeful expression froze.
James, already in a foul mood, exploded. "Mr. Watson, I know you're highly respected in the medical field, but the Smith family doesn't have to beg you. We came to you for speed. If you don't want to cooperate, I won't ask again. But in the future, if you need rare medicinal materials, it might not be so easy to get them."
This was a blatant threat.
If Emily saw this, she'd be shocked.
How foolish was James to speak to Joe this way?
He must have been in a high position for so long that he forgot what respect was.
He was digging his own grave, and no one could save him.
Bianca didn't see anything wrong with James's "assertive" behavior. She felt validated in her choice.
She added, "Mr. Watson, if I were you, I wouldn't let someone irrelevant affect my own interests. Besides, if you help us and arrange a meeting with that doctor, the Johnson Group and the Smith Group will do their best to fulfill your needs for medicinal materials."
She knew how important good doctors were for sourcing quality materials.
By leveraging both the Johnson and Smith Groups, she was confident Joe would be tempted.
Bianca wasn't foolish. Once she found that skilled doctor, she'd find a way to become their student, raising her status. Even Joe would have to respect her then.
Joe thought, people like this don't deserve to learn medicine.
If they wanted to meet, fine.
Since Emily had given her blessing, Joe, who enjoyed a good show, was curious to see their reaction when they discovered the doctor they sought was Emily.
"If you're so insistent on meeting her, fine. I'll give her a call."
After a moment's thought, Joe spoke.
Bianca's face lit up.
She knew Joe would be tempted.
With money and power, anything was possible!
This only strengthened her resolve to climb higher.
"Thank you, Mr. Watson."
Joe dialed Emily's number.
Emily, having just met with Daniel, saw Joe's call and understood the situation.
Apologizing to Daniel, she answered the phone.
"Joe, what's up?"
Emily's voice, though slightly distorted through the phone, reached Bianca and James. But due to the slight distortion and their preconceived notions, they didn't recognize it as Emily's.
They never considered that Emily could be the highly skilled doctor they were looking for, as they had never truly valued her.
